From all the prima facie evidence, the US became a police state LONG ago. And England long before that still. The new technologies merely allow that police state its 'panopitcon'.

The Panopticon is a type of institutional building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the late eighteenth century.
