The real reason for the "Cover up"
The real reason for the cover up that has been mentioned so much in this thread is not because the Smithsonian wants to hide that the original (or at least ancient) Americans were caucasian, but because they were of African (Negroid) stock. The truth is that the entire globe was populated by people from Africa over 100k years ago. America was "discovered" by migrations that took place very early, just like every other continent. Think about it: why would there be a coverup to withhold an early American discovery by Europeans? If that narrative was true, they would have been proud to make that information available for a number of reasons, both political and social. What has been hidden, is that a number of people today that identify themselves as African American are actually descended from that ancient stock.
