You know, this may be more an instance of technology meeting politics. Sure the LED technology allowed for this "funk" styling, but
the styling is tacky. It is
nigger styling.
Those tacky silver and clear tail lights are lifted right out from pimpmobiles.
It aint necessary to put such bad taste on new cars, especially the more expensive cars. That nigger styling is a slap in the face to white people. It is done as a concession to nigger pressure (threat) tactics. It
sucks.

LEDs (light emitting diodes) have replaced the old incandescent taillight of before. The LEDs are manufactured in red and were the first LEDs on the market.
The power savings and longevity of the lights are a hands down improvement. An incandescent bulb draws 12 volts and has a life-span of about 10-15,000 hours, whereas 50 LEDs will draw 3-6 volts and have a life-span of over 150,000 hours, pretty much the life-span of the car.
The silver is basically a reflector for the LEDs to increase their visibility, and the clear covers are put in place just because the red ones are no longer necessary.
The LED's Inventor? A White guy by the name of Nick Holonyak...
