I believe that deep down many want to see the Republicans take another beating. They’re angry that more conservatives did not rally behind their candidate of choice, and that in the past Republicans made some pretty poor choices in Washington. Now they have the excuse to jam their finger in the face of the whole country, no matter what happens afterwards.
Correct. Jam them fingers. If Republicans, Tea Partiers, Conservatives and Libertarians don’t unite, there’s no going back. Obama in his second term would be a complete nightmare. Millions will be given freebies with ObamaCare that they’ll never want to give up. Amnesty for illegal aliens could be delivered with the stroke of a pen, resulting in a permanent Democrat voting majority for the next century. Then when someone does come around preaching the need for austerity, riots will ensue. America would look like much of Europe does today. Where were the establishment Repulingcuntz on the mexcrement question prior to this point? Oh yeah - I remember now: puling that being too "extremist" on the immivasion would "alienate Hispanic-Amurricun voters". But now that their boy is feeling the heat, they're ringing the alarm bell and headin' for the Alamo... ![]() This is not the time to phone it in, yet many libertarians and Ron Paul supporters have done just that. They believe American is lost, or not worth saving, so why bother? Let it self-destruct, and then pick up the pieces later. America’s not beyond saving. It can be saved over time, piece by piece. It just requires a little time, unity and compromise to do it. Many people believe that American is already too far-gone. Now they’re finding a way to make it happen without even realizing it. Sure. Time to git serious 'n' rally 'round Vitalis, like they did with Runt McCunt, the Chimp 'n' Viagra Bob. Go along to get along. Plenty o' time after this election. Piece by piece. Slow 'n' steady wins the race. A stitch in time saves nine. ![]()

Yeah, that's my assessment of that article too.
I do not believe in compromise, when you do that you are selling your position short and to a position you know to be wrong. Win it all or go to war! |

Keep in mind, these aren't solid numbers for any candidate except Ron Paul, who has actually won the delegates at state conventions, the others are only "supposed to be" at this point, since they HAVE NOT actually been awarded by state conventions.
Where oh where will Newt's & Santorum's delegates go? If they were going to Romney, he would have them already, those voters protested Romney.

Ron Paul Can Still Win Enough Delegates To Deny Mitt Romney The Republican Nomination
Despite what you may have heard from the mainstream media, Mitt Romney does not have the Republican nomination locked up. In fact, he is rapidly losing delegates that almost everyone assumed that he already had in the bag. To understand why this is happening, you have to understand the delegate selection process. Each state has different rules for selecting delegates to the Republican national convention, and in many states the "voting" done by the public does not determine the allocation of delegates to particular candidates at all. And the truth is that delegates are the only thing that really matters in this race. In state after state, the Ron Paul campaign is focusing on the delegate selection process with laser-like precision, and it is paying off big time. At this point, there is still a legitimate chance that Ron Paul will be able to win enough delegates to deny Mitt Romney the nomination on the first ballot at the Republican national convention in Tampa. If Romney does not have the 1,144 delegates that he needs on the first ballot, then it becomes a brokered convention and anything becomes possible at that point. Sadly, most Americans have no idea how this process really works. For example, originally we were all told that Mitt Romney won Iowa. Then, later on we were told that a mistake was made and that Rick Santorum actually won Iowa. Well, it turns out that Ron Paul actually won 20 out of the 28 delegates in Iowa. That is because the process of actually selecting the delegates occurred long after the voting by the public was over. So what happens if the Ron Paul campaign is able to produce similar results in state after state? The Ron Paul campaign is very organized, very motivated and they understand the rules of the game. As a recent Politico article detailed, there are huge amounts of unbound delegates out there that are still up for grabs.... There are roughly 30 states and territories where delegates aren’t bound to a particular candidate. The majority of the other states, according to a number of party officials, call for delegates to be bound for a first round of balloting but not the ensuing rounds. “The dirty little secret is: At the end of the day, these guys and gals can vote any way they want,” said a Republican who has attended national conventions for decades. “Each state has different (laws) on pledged delegates.” In many states, the "official" results of voting done by the public mean next to nothing. The talking heads on television often tell us how many delegates are "projected" to go to a particular candidate, but as we have seen in Iowa and in so many other states, those "projections" are basically meaningless. A recent Salon article discussed how the delegate selection process really works and how the Ron Paul campaign is using these rules to shake up the game.... In many caucus states, the “official” results that most people saw this winter were from nonbinding straw polls conducted in conjunction with precinct-level caucuses. But when it comes to choosing national convention delegates, the real action is at district caucuses and state conventions. In the past, this distinction hasn’t mattered much, but for the Paul forces – who lack the numbers to win statewide primaries but have the devotion to pack any room, anywhere, at any time – it has offered an inviting loophole. When turnout is small and no one is looking, the Paul folks can win, and that’s what’s been happening in a number of states. To Paul die-hards, this will all culminate in a surprise for the ages in Tampa, with the political world suddenly realizing that Romney actually doesn’t have the 1,144 delegates needed to win the nomination, thereby allowing Paul to extract major concessions or even steal the nomination for himself. So could Ron Paul really deny Mitt Romney the Republican nomination? At this point, nobody really seems to know what the real delegate count is. Websites such as The Real 2012 Delegate Count are more accurate than most sources in the mainstream media, but even that site has been underestimating the true number of Ron Paul delegates. Right now, Mitt Romney is not anywhere close to having the number of delegates that he needs for the nomination and Ron Paul just keeps picking up more delegates with each passing week. For example, a Washington Post article that was posted on Sunday reported that Ron Paul just achieved a stunning delegate victory in Nevada.... Despite former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney’s overwhelming victory in the Nevada caucuses, Texas Rep. Ron Paul has won a majority of the state’s delegates to the party’s national convention later this year in Tampa, Florida. Thanks to organized Paul supporters, who have been working to increase their candidate’s support at state conventions around the country, 22 of the 25 Nevada delegates up for grabs will be Paul supporters. (Another three are automatic delegates.) That was a state that Romney supposedly "won". It looks like Romney has a real problem. In state after state, Ron Paul is gobbling up delegates. The following are quotes from a recent Huffington Post article about what the Ron Paul campaign has been able to achieve in the past few weeks.... -"Sure enough, Paul has already won 20 out of the 24 delegates allocated in Minnesota, by winning a majority of the congressional district contests." -"In Louisiana, Paulites "dominated" the congressional district caucuses this past Saturday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Paul's supporters carried four of the state's congressional districts, and are guaranteed at least 17 of 46 delegates in the Bayou State, with the potential to pick up more at the state convention on June 2." -"The other state that Benton likely has his eye on is Colorado, where the Denver Post reported in mid-April that Paul supporters and Santorum backers combined forces to win a "stunning upset" at the state convention, guaranteeing that about half of the state's 33 delegates will be for Paul in August." And look what just happened in Maine according to USA Today.... In votes leading to the close of the two-day Maine convention, Paul supporters were elected to 21 of the 24 delegate spots from Maine to the GOP national convention in Tampa, Fla. So Ron Paul is definitely accumulating a huge pile of his own delegates, but even many so-called "pledged delegates" for Romney could end up playing a huge role for Ron Paul. In some states, Ron Paul supporters have been getting elected into delegate slots that are supposed to go to Romney. This is highly unusual, and it could really shake things up at the national convention. As a Salon article recently explained there will be quite a few Ron Paul supporters that will actually be going to Tampa "disguised" as Romney delegates.... Besides the pledged delegates he’s won so far and the extras he’s collecting through caucuses and state conventions, Paul will also have some supporters disguised as Romney delegates. To understand how this works, just consider his campaign’s mischief in Massachusetts, where Romney won 72 percent of the primary vote – and with it, a monopoly on the state’s pledged convention delegates. But to determine who would fill those pledged delegate slots, the state GOP held caucuses recently, and the Paul crowd came out in force, gobbling up 16 of the 19 available positions. In how many other states will this happen, or has it already happened? But those delegates are required to vote for Romney, right? Not so fast. The Ron Paul campaign could actually ask those "disguised" Romney delegates to abstain during the first round of voting in Tampa. If Romney did not win on the first ballot, those delegates would then become unbound and would be able to support Ron Paul. In fact, Ronald Reagan considered using this tactic against Gerald Ford in 1976. The following is from a 1976 article entitled "Reagan Forces May ‘Steal’ Ford Votes".... “In secret strategy sessions, Reagan aides have toyed with the idea of asking delegates to abstain as long as their state laws require them to honor the primary verdicts. This would prevent the President from riding up an early-ballot victory. Then, in subsequent ballots, they could legally switch to Reagan. Delegates have abstained from voting before. Back in 2008, at least 14 delegates abstained from voting at the Republican national convention. So what would happen if the Ron Paul campaign was able to get 100 or 150 "Romney delegates" to abstain from voting during the first ballot in Tampa? That is a very intriguing question. And remember, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich also have significant numbers of delegates pledged to each of them. So Ron Paul does not need to accumulate 1,144 delegates himself to deny Mitt Romney the nomination on the first ballot. He just needs to keep Romney from getting to 1,144. The race for the Republican nomination is not over. You can find a state by state breakdown of delegate voting rules right here. It is not too late to get involved. If nobody gets to 1,144 on the first ballot in Tampa, it becomes a "brokered convention" and anyone can become the nominee - even someone that is not running right now. So if you are not satisfied with Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee, don't lose hope yet. The game is still being played. It would be a challenge, but if his supporters get energized enough, it certainly is possible that Ron Paul could still win enough delegates to deny Mitt Romney the Republican nomination on the first ballot in Tampa. And if that happens, anything is possible. http://endoftheamericandream.com/arc...can-nomination |

Ron Paul backers quietly seek to overturn Mitt Romney’s caucus victory in Idaho Ron Paul supporters backed the state GOP’s new presidential caucus system. But they’re so disgusted with his third-place finish and the fact that Mitt Romney captured all 32 national delegates, they’re working to change the result. “I’ll do the scorched earth if I have to,” said Ryan Davidson, third vice chairman of the Ada County Republican Party and a Paul organizer. The Paul camp’s plan is to control the GOP state convention in June by winning little-noticed precinct committee races across Idaho in the May 15 primary. “If two-thirds of the delegates to the Idaho State Convention are Ron Paul supporters, they can vote to suspend the rules, overturn the results of the caucus and award all the national delegates to Ron Paul,” Davidson says on YouTube. In recent days, he shut down access to the training video because Romney supporters were using it to counterattack. Romney won 62 percent of the vote at the March 6 caucus, which attracted almost 45,000 GOP voters. Rick Santorum was second and Paul third, both with 18 percent. Davidson concedes that the tactic is “debatable,” but says the provision for suspending rules with a supermajority is designed to “address special circumstances.” “We feel that establishment Republicans have done enough damage to this country and that by nominating a clone of John McCain, the party is forfeiting the presidency,” Davidson said. Debbie Field, a former Boise lawmaker who managed Gov. Butch Otter’s 2006 and 2010 campaigns, is assisting the effort to elect a slate of precinct committeemen who will support the result of the caucus. “It is very, very debatable,” said Field, who downloaded Davidson’s video and is using it to campaign for candidates loyal to Romney. “When I show the video, everybody sits up in their chair and says, ‘Can he do that? That is like stealing my vote!’ ” Eva Gay Yost, a precinct committeewoman from Meridian who’s worked for Republicans since President Eisenhower’s 1956 re-election, is appalled. “They don’t play fair,” said Yost, who was scheduler for GOP Gov. Phil Batt. “This is a concentrated effort to hijack the Republican Party. They call us ‘Republicans in Name Only.’ We are true Republicans. They’re not Republicans, they’re Libertarians. We don’t want to legalize pot.” Davidson has led unsuccessful efforts to legalize marijuana at the city level by voter initiative. Paul supporters on the state Central Committee helped approve the first-ever GOP caucus. An author of the idea, former Senate Majority Leader Rod Beck of Boise, allied with Paulers in helping oust GOP Chairman Kirk Sullivan in 2008. Beck also has championed the new closed GOP primary. But he wants no part of the Paul strategy. “I am disappointed,” Beck said. “The results were clear. We went to great lengths to be fair. It would be a slap in the face to those thousands of people who turned out for the caucus.” Former Gov. Batt also opposes the Paul gambit. “I think it’s quite bizarre,” he said. This week, he’ll send 20,000 postcards to GOP voters in Ada County, urging them to vote for precinct committee candidates who support the caucus result. The cards include a list of candidates endorsed by Batt. “They have worked hard for the party and will do what needs to be done in the upcoming election by supporting the party nominee for president,” he writes. Davidson said his strongest organization is in Ada County, but he’s also working in Canyon County and has allies elsewhere. Paul won six of Idaho’s 44 counties at the caucus; his biggest win was in Nez Perce County. Santorum won six counties, including Kootenai. Davidson’s strategy requires winning enough precinct committee races to control county organization meetings in late May and early June. That’s where state convention delegates are elected by a simple majority. The final step is the state convention in Twin Falls on June 22, where delegates to the national convention are elected. That’s where Paul would need a two-thirds vote to overturn a state party rule binding delegates to Romney. Davidson said he has candidates for more than 100 of the 145 precincts in Ada County. There are 62 precincts in Canyon County and 925 statewide. Unlike Batt, Davidson would not disclose his slate, saying, “There are a lot of people in our coalition who aren’t necessarily Ron Paul supporters, and I don’t want to speak on behalf of anyone without their permission.” Romney forces filed 99 Ada candidates by the election deadline and since have added 22 write-ins. Paul appears to have two write-ins. “We have enough people; we just have to win the races,” Davidson said. “I’m cautiously optimistic.” Romney’s Idaho campaign co-chairman, U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, suggested that Davidson might be smoking something. “You’ve gotta admire their enthusiasm, but it ain’t gonna happen,” Risch said. “It’s wishful thinking.” Risch added that even if Paul succeeded in suspending the rules and sending 32 delegates to the convention in Tampa, they’d never be seated. “That’s entirely in the hands of the Credentials Committee, and they’d say, ‘What, are you guys crazy? You had a set of rules and changed midstream.’ I don’t think so.” Said Davidson: “I don’t know what the Credentials Committee would do, but I think they would respect each state’s process. It’s the job of the state convention to select the delegates.” Read more here: http://www.idahostatesman.com/2012/0...#storylink=cpy |

Dirty tricks not enough to stop Paul Revolution in Maine and Nevada Presidential candidate Ron Paul defeated Mitt Romney in the Maine and Nevada conventions this weekend, capturing nearly all of the delegates at both events. Paul was able to win handily in both states, overcoming what seems to have been a dirty tricks campaign by members of the Romney team. In both Maine and Nevada, political operatives were accused of attempting to confuse Ron Paul supporters, who had the majority of delegates at both conventions, by circulating a phony slate of delegates. Had their tactics been successful, the wrong delegates could have been erroneously selected, thus affecting the final total. As of this writing it had not been proven that the manipulators were Mitt Romney supporters, although it seems unlikely that they would have been working for anyone else. Governor Romney was the only candidate that stood to benefit from the deceit. If this does turn out to be a dirty tricks campaign that is connected to Governor Romney's staff or to the Governor himself, it is a huge scandal that could spell the end of the Romney campaign. It would also suggest that Governor Romney is afraid of Dr. Paul's momentum, which would contradict what we are hearing in the mainstream media about Romney's inevitability. Advertisement At the Nevada convention, a Republican Party official was overheard speaking quietly to Romney’s people in the hallway. The official apparently said, "Why would you pull these stunts half an hour into a convention?" A local television station in Nevada also reported on the manipulation, showing the real and phony delegate slates, the latter of which had the name of a Paul supporter misspelled. In the same clip, there is footage of the Sargent at Arms escorting the alleged perpetrator out of the building. In Maine, an intrepid amateur reporter submitted videotape on her blog that documented how the manipulation occurred. At the end of her riveting video, the filmer is following the alleged perpetrator while several Paul supporters are challenging his nefarious actions. The man being followed, whose face is able to be seen clearly, walked to the police and asked that they stop taping him. This looks to be a smoking gun. To the politically jaded, this may seem like business as usual. But to most Americans this seems criminal. The nomination for the election of the President of the United States is on the line. Consequently, a stunt like this can have serious long-term implications for the country. However, the Republican Party is a private club that can apparently do what it wants, so if a person engages in unethical behavior, the GOP has the option to handle it internally or do nothing at all. The private nature of the setting apparently removes the potential for criminality. Although one would think the Paul campaign would explore all options. Dr. Paul secured landslide victories in both states' conventions, the results of which take precedence over the popular vote 'beauty contests' that generate so much coverage by the national media. Caucus states are won and lost when actual delegates vote at their state conventions. The candidate who gets the most delegates voting for him at the national convention wins the nomination. Paul will have a lot of support from Maine and Nevada. As of 8 PM on Sunday evening, Congressman Paul had won twenty-two out of twenty-five national delegates from Nevada. Update from 050712: It now looks like the actual number in Nevada is twenty-five out of twenty-eight delegates. In Maine, Paul won all twenty-two available delegates. This is a stunning weekend for the Paul campaign and has to be an embarrassment for the Romney team and their accomplices in the national media who have been reporting that the race is over. If the race is over, why is Dr. Paul still getting so much support? The Maine and Nevada conventions prove that this race is far from over despite what is being reported on CNN and FOX News. As is illustrated in the embedded video, with the compelling victories this weekend in Maine and Nevada, Congressman Paul has now won enough states to ensure that his name will be placed in nomination at the Republican National Convention in Tampa. That is making his hard-working supporters very happy. Paul campaign insiders tell me there may also be some additional good news for the Paul campaign this week. The Ron Paul Revolution appears to be alive and well. http://www.examiner.com/article/dirt...ine-and-nevada |

Republican Executive Committee Member Calls for Resignation of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus Daily Paul Liberty Forum Due to an alleged violation of the national GOP's Rule # 11 (bans favoritism of one candidate while more than one candidate exists), an Executive Committee member within the GOP calls for the resignation of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. Washington, DC, May 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Jeffrey Bales, a Member-at-Large of the Pima County GOP Executive Committee (Tucson, Arizona), says: “Due to violation of the RNC's Rule #11, I call for Chairman Reince Priebus to resign immediately. It is un-American and beneath the standards established by the Republican Party to violate this rule. It is unethical to support a single Republican Presidential candidate (Mitt Romney) while other Republican candidates remain in the race. "Further, I call upon Mitt Romney to denounce this behavior and ask that the RNC repair the breach of trust by including the other remaining Republican Presidential candidate, Dr. Ron Paul, in any dispensation of funds, effort and labor. It would benefit all Americans if Mitt Romney would further clarify the fact that 2 candidates remain if he challenged Dr. Ron Paul to a debate." Rule #11 states: "Rule No. 11 Candidate Support (a) The Republican National Committee shall not, without the prior written and filed approval of all members of the Republican National Committee from the state involved, contribute money or in-kind aid to any candidate for any public or party office except the nominee of the Republican Party or a candidate who is unopposed in the Republican primary after the filing deadline for that office. In those states where state law establishes a nonpartisan primary in which Republican candidates could participate, but in which the general election may not include a Republican candidate, the candidate endorsed by a convention held under the authority of the state Republican Party shall be recognized by the Republican National Committee as the Republican nominee. (b) No state Republican Party rule or state law shall be observed that allows persons who have participated or are participating in the selection of any nominee of a party other than the Republican Party, including, but not limited to, through the use of a multiparty primary or similar type ballot, to participate in the selection of a nominee of the Republican Party for that general election. No person nominated in violation of this rule shall be recognized by the Republican National Committee as the nominee of the Republican Party from that state." How the Zionist Media Has Had a Big Hand in Helping Ron Paul Win the Republican Nomination
May 7th, 2012 It would seem absurd to think that the corporate free press in America is actually helping Ron Paul in his bid to become the Republican nominee doesn’t it? Well, not really. In fact, the news pundits and political analysts have actually done more harm than good to their latest “presumptive” nominee, “Willard (Mitt) Romney” than they have to the other last man standing in the Republican race, Ron Paul. The cadre of established press corps in the United States may soon become the collective press corpse, unless they take drastic action to change course in the way they report the facts in this primary race. Of course it is now a damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenario for the establishment press. The question now is which course will they take? So how has the U.S. media energized an irate, tireless, minority that is the Ron Paul phenomenon, or should I say, Revolution? First, they insult them, then belittle them, then try to ignore them, and then fight them, even if it means the establishment press’ peril of becoming completely irrelevant. We'll skip over the 2008 nominating experience of the Ron Paul phenomenon and jump right into the pattern of the 2012 nominating experience. The pattern has been almost exactly the same, except this time Ron Paul is running further down the nominating path, and the old model of dismissing Ron Paul is yielding some very interesting, unintended consequences for the powers-that-be. It is my feeling this will result in a completely different outcome for the Republican nominee. Before this horse race even started in earnest, the news analysts and professional political pundits all declared in unison that Ron Paul was the “can’t win” candidate. I’m quite certain the initiated within the Ron Paul Revolution, and even the uninitiated, all heard and remember this talking point by the ordained opinionaires. They authoritatively proclaimed in unison that, “He can’t win”. And if you are a Ron Paul fan, then you need to thank the Lord they did proclaim that talking point proudly, loudly, and often! Because the initiated in the Ron Paul Revolution, if they realized it or not, and I don’t think they did to a large extent, subconsciously were hearing the rest of the sentence from the clarion choir of chief news readers, moneymakers, and changers as, “HE CAN’T WIN…, because if he does, we will be out of business!” Who will be out of business? The ones demanding that “He can’t win!” This talking point was in fact a desperate cry from the establishment machine; for the people not to reach for the Ron Paul cord, and yank their lifeline, and hurl them into dying a humiliating death. They may have just as well been desperately pleading every second… “Please God, may the rocks fall upon us and hide us from the face of Ron Paul’s coming!" The moneymakers and changers who depend upon the machine’s lifeline of the Federal Reserve to provide them with the enormous benefit of cheap money first, the lobbyists who get their hands greased by corporations to maintain the status quo, the politicians who make money on both sides of the deal; and the well-funded news makers whose provisions come from those listed prior, who are steadily fed the “news” straight from the White House without objection; or a shred of introspection for that matter, would be lost for good! I would bet that the irate minority whenever they heard, “Ron Paul can’t win” whether from parroting neocons, or a self proclaimed politically astute stooge, largely took that muse, or should I say ruse, as a direct challenge to their ego and their dedication to their world view on what they consider to be the absolute honest truth. What the Paul follower may have been missing is that this mantra of, “He can’t win” was actually a tremendous compliment coming from their adversaries and a validation to their movement [i.e. “revolution”]. After all, the corporate media still, to this day, does not understand the mentality of the Ron Paul collective mind. Okay, so we have gotten by the primary insult of “He can’t win!” Let’s move on to the belittling, shall we? The debates. In 2008, debate moderators went out of their way to belittle Ron when they had the chance. Again, all this did was infuriate the already irate minority that was the Ron Paul die-hards. What did this belittling accomplish? Not what you would expect. It accomplished complete determination and focus in the Paulite’s inner being, and it carried right on through to the 2012 election process. Where in 2012, I have to say, the belittling was somewhat less, and the respect level rose an inch or two for Dr. Paul. But the game plan of the establishment machine that was being played during the earliest of debates, and underway during the campaign, is still very much in play to this day. What is it? The ignoring. If you watch any television news, you know Ron Paul does not exist, is no longer a candidate in the race, and the “presumptive” Republican nominee is Mitt Romney. I don’t have to tell you what happens when we “assume”, but what happens when we “presume”? Is it an assumption that Mitt is the Republican nominee? No, according to the news professionals it is a presumption. In other words, the dominant establishment media is making themselves asses ahead of time. And once again, we thank the Lord that we aren’t part of the group running headlong into the “ass” category. Because anyone with any mental fortitude does not get their news solely from the dinosaur media, which is on the way to becoming extinct, as the oxygen of reality leaves the broadcasting room. Is the latest attempt at Internet censorship going to stop the suffocation of the mainstream media dominance? Not if the Paul contingency has anything to say, because they are pioneers in raising the bar of media know-how! So where are we now? We are at the fight stage. Mahatma Gandhi boiled peaceful resistance down to this, “First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.” Guess where we are now? The Republican Neocon Party is fighting the Paul contingency in the delegate process, where the real votes count, and guess what? The neocontigency is consistently losing that fight! And as you would expect, the media has been ignoring that little story for a while now. But the cracks in their iron curtain of non-information and disinformation are beginning to resemble holes, and the people are peeking in through those holes to see what else they may be missing. The media has no choice now but to admit they are either incompetent or apologize for their censorship and the disinformation they emanate. There really is no other choice for them at this point, because the Revolution stops for no one; the finish line is on the horizon, and now we know… He Can Win! http://www.dailypaul.com//231491/how...can-nomination |

Decoder Wire
Why Ron Paul's big wins in Maine and Nevada matter (+video)When Ron Paul delegates show up at the Republican National Convention in August, they may be strong enough to throw the event into disarray – just at the moment Mitt Romney needs to show the GOP united behind him. Ron Paul scored big victories at the Maine and Nevada Republican Party conventions on Sunday. In both states his forces won the majority of delegates to this summer's national GOP convention in Tampa, Fla. As we noted Sunday, this means Mr. Paul’s strategy of organizing the grass roots and working arcane delegate selection rules is paying off. And that could mean big trouble for Mitt Romney and his plans to smoothly pivot to a campaign aimed solely at incumbent President Obama. Yes, Mr. Romney is still the presumptive nominee. It’s highly unlikely Paul will be able to deny the former Massachusetts governor the prize he’s sought for so long. But Paul’s forces aren’t lining up and saluting a Romney victory. When they show up in Tampa in August they may be strong enough, and prepared enough, to throw the convention floor into embarrassing disarray. RECOMMENDED: Know your US presidents? See if D.C. Decoder can stump you! “All of this means the GOP can no longer ignore its libertarian ‘fringe.’ On the contrary, it will have to reach out to a new generation of activists who don’t regard religious piety or continual warfare as sacred tenets of conservatism,” wrote Oxford University historian Timothy Stanley in a CNN opinion column last week. Let’s back up a bit and recap, shall we? On Sunday in Augusta, Maine, Paul supporter Brent Tweed narrowly won the election to chair the state’s GOP convention. From there, he presided over a meeting that ended up with Paul winning 18 of the state’s 24 delegates to Tampa. Romney narrowly won Maine’s caucus straw poll earlier this year. But that was a nonbinding beauty contest. Sunday’s vote was what really counted. In Sparks, Nev., the result was even more one-sided. Paul supporters won 22 of 25 delegates up for selection. But Nevada’s caucuses, unlike Maine’s, were binding on delegates. Some delegates were also awarded on an at-large basis. The bottom line: In the first round of voting in Tampa, 20 Nevada delegates are bound to Romney, and eight are free to vote for Paul, no matter their personal preference. But that may not be the full story. Paul’s forces are not bound to make it easy for Romney to coast to victory, as delegate selection expert Josh Putnam, a Davidson College political scientist, writes on his Frontloading HQ blog. Paul’s highly organized campaign continues to amass what Mr. Putnam labels “stealth delegates” – delegates pledged to Romney, or one of the withdrawn GOP candidates – who are personally in favor of the libertarian congressman from Texas. It’s hard to determine how many such folks Paul has, or what they’ll do in Tampa. For instance, what if Paul supporters who are bound to vote for Romney in the first round by state rules simply abstain from casting their ballots? That might keep Romney under the 1,144 votes he needs to win the nomination – even if he actually (sort of) has those votes in hand! “This is a tricky maneuver, but not one that is prohibited by the Republican Party delegate selection rules,” writes Putnam in a lengthy post devoted to the ways Paul could make trouble for Romney. Again, this would be unlikely to prevent Romney from actually winning the nomination eventually. But it would prompt an embarrassing floor fight and expose rifts in the party at the very moment the Romney forces would most want to show a united front to the world. Another unknown here is whether Paul wants to push things this far. Does he just want a good convention speaking slot, or influence on the party platform? Or does he want to win? “Is Paul after the nomination? I don’t know. But his supporters sure are,” writes Putnam. In any case, Paul’s weekend victories have left Romney supporters in Maine and Nevada fuming. In Maine, Romney backer Craig Cragin called the turn of events at the state convention “bizarre,” according to the Bangor Daily News. Mr. Cragin also predicted that the Paul people had violated rules in Augusta and thus would not even make it to the national convention in late summer. “They have so phenomenally screwed this up that they will go to Tampa and not be seated,” Cragin said. |

Congress
The Left and the Right Take Aim at the Fed It’s going to be an exciting week for Ron Paul. His presidential campaign is in the midst of a nationwide fight to pick up delegates to send to the Republican National Convention in Tampa this summer. Here in Washington, the Texas congressman will preside over hearings that take aim at the institution Paul has criticized throughout his political career: the Federal Reserve. On Tuesday, the House subcommittee on domestic monetary policy and technology, which Paul chairs, will consider various proposals to tweak, revamp, and overhaul the Fed. The Texas libertarian has long argued that the Federal Reserve is the root of many economic evils and should be eliminated. His ideas, which for most of his career have been considered to be on the fringe, have moved into the mainstream of the GOP. One proposal Paul will air on Tuesday, which is being introduced by Indiana Republican Mike Pence, would limit the Fed’s responsibilities to controlling inflation. Another Republican proposal, the Sound Dollar Act, would shift control of some aspects of monetary policy to the regional Federal Reserve banks and out of Washington. Democrats and liberal groups have also attacked Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s policies, albeit not as scathingly as those on the right. They’ll have their day at Paul’s hearing, too. The Occupy movement protests that the Fed is held captive by the interests of major banks. Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank has a bill that would centralize even more control in Washington, moving it away from the regional banks. Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) would curtail the influence of industry by cutting the 14-year terms of Fed governors in half and doubling the amount of time a retiring member of the Fed must wait before taking a job at a bank. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) would take even more power from the Fed: He’d make it part of the Treasury Department. http://www.businessweek.com/articles...aim-at-the-fed |
