UK Bill: Separate entry for Australians & other Commonwealth Realms at Heathrow

Andrew Rosindell MP introduces his private members bill on 11 July 2012 in the House of Commons to cure ' a great constitutional injustice'.

The Uk Borders Bill, 2012, would create a separate queue at Heathrow and other entry points into the UK for citizens of the Realms, Commonwealth countries where The Queen reigns as Sovereign.

There are 16 Commonwealth Realms: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Papua New Guinea, St Christopher and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Tuvalu, Barbados, Grenada, Solomon Islands, St Lucia, The Bahamas and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The Bill will proceed to the Second Reading on 25 January, 2013.

Mr.Rosindell is to be congratulated on his initiative, and his excellent speech explaining the measure.

ACM has long supported this concept, and has so informed diplomatic and consular representatives of the UK.

It is not, after all, too much to ask.

Do other countries in the Commonwealth have separate channels for the British?

I don't see a point in this. It will cost a fortune that we don't have, do nothing to prevent illegal immigrants or visa-dodgers coming through and won't save that much in terms of manpower or time.

I've seen Aussie and NZ customs "entertainment" shows on TV and they're very strict with their immigration and customs entry checks. If we make any changes, we should change to emulating them.

No chance, they get much more from the government here.

We also have a mining boom that makes the government lots of taxation revenue.

Not many.

I'm not too concerned about them visiting for a week of fish and chips and then going home again. I'm concerned about them visiting ostensibly for a week of fish and chips and then vanishing.

I dunno anything about special offers in Nottingham and certainly nothing about white wine. I live in Derbyshire and drink JD or Bailey's if and when I drink. Though to be fair, Nottingham is closer to me than Derby is.
