I loved it, both day and night. The wind, 24 hrs a day, was different for me. I liked it. Returning from the store across the street with a light layer of sand on my face and arms was different as well. A friend and I would play one-on-one basketball for a few hours, three or four times a week. The constant wind seemed to make recovery from exhaustion much quicker. But, I was in my early twenties then. I also liked the way the low-pressure weather systems moved through so quickly, rather than stagnating. Very refreshing! However, other than springtime truly arriving in March, I doubt I would desire to be there in the winter. |

Is it really this bad?
Mississippi River dries up as drought worsens August 15, 2012 – MIDWEST – The worst drought in more than 50 years is having a devastating impact on the Mississippi River. The Mississippi has become very thin and very narrow, and if it keeps on dropping there is a very real possibility that all river traffic could get shut down. And considering the fact that approximately 60 percent of our grain, 22 percent of our oil and natural gas, and and one-fifth of our coal travel down the Mississippi River, that would be absolutely crippling for our economy. It has been estimated that if all Mississippi River traffic was stopped that it would cost the U.S. economy 300 million dollars a day. So far most of the media coverage of this historic drought has focused on the impact that it is having on farmers and ranchers, but the health of the Mississippi River is also absolutely crucial to the economic success of this nation, and right now the Mississippi is in incredibly bad shape. In some areas the river is already 20 feet below normal and the water is expected to continue to drop. If we have another 12 months of weather ahead of us similar to what we have seen over the last 12 months then the mighty Mississippi is going to be a complete and total disaster zone by this time next year. Most Americans simply do not understand how vitally important the Mississippi River is to all of us. If the Mississippi River continues drying up to the point where commercial travel is no longer possible, it would be an absolutely devastating blow to the U.S. economy. Unfortunately, vast stretches of the Mississippi are already dangerously low. The following is an excerpt from a transcript of a CNN report that aired on August 14th. A lot of barges have been forced to go with greatly reduced loads so that they will sit higher in the river, and other commercial craft have been forced to stop operating completely. For example, the Mississippi has dropped so low at this point that the famous American Queen Steamboat can no longer safely navigate the river. Down south, the Mississippi River has gotten so low that saltwater is actually starting to move upriver. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is fighting hard to keep that contained. Other waterways in the middle part of the country are in even worse shape. For example, a 100 mile stretch of the Platte River has already dried up. Millions of fish are dying as rivers and streams all over the country continue to get shallower and warmer as a result of the ongoing drought. The last time the condition of the Mississippi River was this bad was back in 1988. At that time, a lot of barge traffic was stopped completely and the shipping industry lost approximately a billion dollars. If a similar thing were to happen now, the consequences could potentially be far worse. http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpre...e-u-s-economy/ |

We've been having crisp, extremely clear, sunny fall days. Then today, Saturday, it's all of a sudden hottish and rainy-moist. I like rain when it's warm. I detest let's say November rain, per the GnR song.

The temperatures anywhere on planet Earth are wonderful and glorious..... From the polar ice caps to the most sweltering deserts, we are lucky to have this beautiful paradise of a planet in the perfect place in our solar system, which is in the perfect place within Milky Way galaxy..... Whenever I start feeling sorry for myself due to the weather I remind myself how lucky I truly am to be on this watery wonderland that is more rare and more
lucky than winning the powerball lottery. So next time you are pissing and moaning about the rain, remember that its rain and liquid water itself that makes planet Earth the wonderful gem that it is. Now if we could just find a way to get rid of these miserable kikes who are keeping everyone else from enjoying this pardise we might find the time and resources to search the universe for more amazing places like our own.

18 feet of snow, or kikery. 18 feet of snow, or kikery...
Which is worse? It's definitely a toss-up.

NEMO (ne missouri): we got first snow of 2012-13 season last night, several inches, or at least a couple inches, depending whether you believe the media or your own eyes.

I'd rather have snow than drabby drear. Snow at least is good-looking, when it's fresh and young. Eh, YOU know what I'm talking about there Akins.

[26 degrees at sunrise the last two days is So Cal. (1200 feet alt.)]
Wether is a prime example of a word that will slip past the spell check. It is easily confused with two of its homonyms, whether and weather. Flying fingers find it easy to miss the single letter that separates them. Unless you’re a farmer, you might not even know that wether is either a: male sheep or ram (the Oxford Dictionary of Etymology traces its roots to Old English, Old High German, Old Norse and Goth) or a: castrated ram or billy goat (according to A Word A Day). We all know that MS Word can be easily confused, but there’s no need for us to face the same confusion. Weather, that stuff up there in the sky, is the ‘condition of the atmosphere with respect to heat or cold, calm or storm, etc’. That’s according to the Oxford Dictionary of Etymology. Interestingly, when it was first used in Old English in the 12th century, weather always had adverse implications. In the 14th century, the term also referred to the wind direction, and its roots lie in various terms meaning either wind or storm. Weathering, derived from weather, is the result of exposure to wind and weather. The frequently misspelled whether is used to introduce a question, often outlining a choice between options. Its roots lie in Old English and Old High German. Here’s my attempt at using them all in a sentence. The farmer wondered whether the adverse weather had affected his wether. http://www.dailywritingtips.com/wether-weather-whether/ |
