Default What lies beneath Uranus and Neptune: Weird materials like 'Hitler's Acid' could lurk inside the planets

What lies beneath Uranus and Neptune: Weird materials like 'Hitler's Acid' could lurk inside the planets

They are vast, icy worlds composed almost entirely of dense clouds of gas.

But the giant planets Neptune and Uranus could also have cores composed of exotic materials.

Scientists studying the strange compounds that form at the high pressures found in the hearts of these icy gas giants claim they may have interiors made from strange crystals.

Among these compounds are the highly unstable substance orthocarbonic acid, also known as Hitler's Acid due to the Swastika shape the atoms form.

'Hitler's Acid' sounds like a good name for a band. 'Tonight ladies and gentleman it's Hitler's Acid'.

Maybe the next space probe to Uranus will find a giant storm shaped like a spinning swastika there.

If Hitler had won the war, we would be colonizing the Solar System now.

Uranus and Neptune are the only two planets in our solar system that have not had orbiter missions. They were visited by Voyager 2 which flew past them in 1986 and 1989. Both planets have some interesting moons and Uranus is unique in that the planet is tilted almost 98 degrees on its side with respect to the plane of the ecliptic unlike the other planets. A new mission to these places would get some very interesting data that Voyager on its fast flyby was unable to acquire.
