Pierre-Marc,

That's the point. Germany's creating a situation where SYRIZA is going to be discredited because the memorandum hasn't been altered in any material way.

The KKE and Golden Dawn are the only two players that could possibly benefit from this.

Syriza Lends a Favour to their Anarchist Thugs: Riot Police Now Disarmed

Syriza’s ridiculous policy

Like most sell-out politicians that have dominated the political landscape of Greece for the last 40 years, it’s very rare that Tsipras ever tells the truth. The war cries of ‘we will end austerity’ prior to the recent elections have all been abandoned, as Tspiras and his underling Varoufakis rush to calm the markets while promising the international bankers that they will pay back every last penny to the Troika.

Among some of Syriza’s other wild claims prior to elections, was a pledge to disarm the men who are responsible for enforcing law and order in our country. Mind you, this is the same Greece which since the GFC, is currently going through immense social and economic turmoil. Unlike Syriza’s broken promise to end austerity, Tsipras has actually followed through with this insane plan to disarm the riot police.

Imia 2015

Last Saturday, Greek Nationalists concentrated in the centre of Athens for the 19th Imia memorial. The memorial event was met by hundreds of ‘anti-fascist’ counter protesters, who were outnumbered by the thousands of Golden Dawn supporters who came to show respect for our fallen National heroes.

The riot police were called in to prevent clashes between the two sides, however, this time there was a noticeable change; the riot police force was now unarmed. With clear instructions to keep a firm distance from the counter protestors, the riot police had effectively lost the means to maintain order.

At first, confusion swept the ‘anti-fascist’ crowd who were expecting the riot police to hold them back and prevent clashes. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, and fulfilling their claims to ‘smash the fash’ without interference from the riot police, the anarchists cowards did not engage the Nationalists, who in all probability would of made the anarchists regret their foolish decision. Without the riot police to tighten the leash on the barking dogs with no bite, the anarchists then turned their attention to the riot police, and ‘peacefully’ spray painted their vehicles, much to the embarrassment of the state.

The anarchist dogs, who wouldn’t dare face the Nationalists in a fair fight without the help of the authorities on their side, showed once again that not only are they cowards, but now capable of overtly dominating the riot police for the entire world to see. It’s important to remind our readers that the riot police are Greek men, many with families, and rely on their state jobs to survive. The disarming of our security forces is a national joke, and unnecessarily puts our officers lives on the line who now feel ‘confused’ and ‘uncertain’, as reported by To Vima.

What does this mean?

Following the fall of the Junta, the anarchist movement in Greece has had ties to the deep state. As early as the 1980s, they have acted as the street thugs for the Socialist PASOK party. More recently, the leaders of these violent criminals have more or less sided with the Syriza camp, though much to the unknown of their rank and file members who still think they are fighting against the ‘system’. Although the Anarchists still occasionally target the centre right, the majority of their organised attacks are against the only true anti-systemic party, Golden Dawn.

Traditionally, the Anarchist cowards have relied on the riot police to protect them while they do the dirty work for systemic leftist leaders. This usually involves attacking Golden Dawn supporters and branches, while hiding behind the very same authorities they claim to despise.

Historically, the anarchists behave like animals, and while out of control, occasionally step out of line by attacking the riot police. The riot police are under strict orders to cop it on the chin, incase they retaliate and injure a rich bureaucrats son and lose their job. There are exceptions, and if the officers receive excessive attacks and are unable to contain the crowd, they will use sufficient force to restore order. This sufficient force is of course effecting the potential damage these Anarchist savages can inflict, and greatly impedes their effectiveness when attacking anti-systemic targets like the Golden Dawn.

The Future

Unlike Samaras, who preferred to use his connections in the judicial system to try and unlawfully shut down Golden Dawn, Syriza has taken a different route, and essentially now given the anarchists thugs the green light to do their worst. By disarming the authorities, Syriza has armed the Anarchists with the means to operate without a challenge from the now humiliated riot police, a dangerous move which could have serious consequences to the citizens of Greece.

This plan may indeed back fire, as the riot police have essentially acted as a shield for the anarchists thugs who attack their targets while hiding behind the authorities. With that shield now removed, there may be little hope for these spoiled rich kids who may find themselves with no one to hide behind if they are foolish enough to attack the wrong target.

The future of Greece has become very uncertain now that the overtly Marxist government has enabled their anarchists thugs in a bid to control the streets. Perhaps when the very same people they have enabled realise that Tsipras has sold them out to the Troika, the corrupt leaders of these lackeys may soon lose control, and find they turn against the very same hand that feeds them.

Anarchists stage anti-government riot following Syriza’s sell out
Posted by xaameriki on February 27, 2015

Article by Golden Dawn Australia

And such is the fate of a nation when leftist ‘humanitarians’ decide to disarm the riot police, ironically in what they consider to be in the interests of ‘public safety’. Perhaps someone should ask Syriza if the working class Greeks, children and elderly who walk about the city of Athens are also humans, or if their ‘humanitarian’ safety policies only apply to spoiled, degenerate anarchists from rich families as well as the illegal immigrants they seem to love so much.

Last night, a mob of anarchists launched an anti-government march in Athens, following Syriza’s compromise to the international loan sharks. The event came ahead of the vote by the German parliament to extend the Greek bailout, with Syriza all but complying to the usurers demands. The march began in the Propylaea area of Athens, making its way to Parliament house. At no surprise to anyone, the march soon turned violent, as the anarchist clowns began to attack their random surroundings for reasons beyond the understanding of anyone with 2 or more brain cells. Their targets included a stop sign, windshields, office equipment, and a side walk, all well-known enemies of the Greek people.

As expected, the new Marxist-improved riot police where doing a great job by not intervening, being almost invisible during most of the event to ensure no innocent anarchist would be distracted as they burned down the centre of Athens. Without causing a single injury or arrest, the ‘riot police’ intervened only when the riot began to naturally die down, and most probably to remind the rich kids to return to their luxury villas before bed time.

This recent event follows an earlier report we published at the beginning of the month, about how Syriza (in all their Marxist wisdom), made an insane decision to disarm the riot police. We predicted in the earlier article that when Tsipras sells out to the Troika (and which he did), that some anarchists would defect from their state controlled camps and burn Athens in anti-government protests. The small size of this rouge anarchist group (a mere 450-500) would suggest we are correct in our assumption, as most of the anarchist riots under the state’s control usually number well into the thousands.

In total, dozens of anarchists where seen hurling petrol bombs and stones at the police, causing serious damage to a number of cars, 2 jewellery stores, a bus stop, a café, the office of an insurance company and a mobile phone repair shop. The citizens of Greece will be sure to thank the anarchists and sleep just that little bit easier tonight, knowing that an evil capitalist funded bus stop will not be operating tomorrow. Perhaps their elderly grandparents who rely on the bus can have time to re-think their route, and consider walking for some much needed vitamin D, which the evil state has obviously being purposely depriving them of.

Greek Justice Minister: Golden Dawn Trial May be Delayed

by A. Makris - Mar 4, 2015

In an interview with private radio Vima FM, Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos said on Wednesday that, due to understaffing problems, the trial of far right Golden Dawn deputies might be delayed.
“This delay may result in the release of the deputies, when the maximum period for holding someone without trial expires,” Paraskevopoulos added.

It should be noted that the public prosecutors handling the Golden Dawn case recommended on Monday that the party’s leader Nikos Mihaloliakos and GD deputy Christos Pappas be released on March 29, when the 18-month period of temporary detention ends.
Michaloliakos and Pappas are facing charges of leading and participating in a criminal organization, in connection with Golden Dawn’s actions.

Greece may free jailed Golden Dawn leaders

Athens (AFP) - Prosecutors said Tuesday that the jailed leader of Greece's neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party and his deputy may have to be freed after 18 months in custody.

Golden Dawn leader Nikos Mihaloliakos and MP Christos Pappas have been held since September 2013 on accusations of being part of "a criminal gang," after an anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas was stabbed by a party member in a murder that shocked the country.

Under Greek law, suspects can be detained for a maximum of 18 months while prosecutors investigate their case. That period runs out for the two men at the end of March.

It is up to appeals court judges whether to formally free them, and prosecutors have asked for the pair to released on bail of 120,000 euros each, according to a court source.

The men, both MPs, were also accused of involvement in attempted murder, racist violence, anti-Semitism acts and of having illegal weapons.

Prosecutors are likely to ask that another Golden Dawn legislator, Yannis Lagos, who was charged with implication in the Fyssas murder, similarly be freed on bail when his 18 months are up around the same time.

Golden Dawn is suspected of involvement in numerous attacks in recent years, mostly against immigrants, as Greece descended into crisis. But the impunity it appeared to enjoy ended with the murder of the activist rapper.

A huge police investigation into the party began with the round-up of many of its leaders and MPs, more than half of whom have since been charged.

Seventy people are facing trial as a result of the crackdown, with the first cases due to be heard before the end of April, the court source said.

The far-right party first entered parliament with 18 MPs after 2012 elections. Despite the investigations and arrests of its leaders, however, support for Golden Dawn remained considerable in the latest elections January 25, when it came third with 17 seats.

The Golden Dawn have been unjustly detained anyway. This was a witch-hunt by the Samaras (same as he ever was) junta.

Now, the truth will out and when the thing comes to court the world will hear and see what a LIAR "New" Democracy is.

The ONLY solution for Greece is Golden Dawn...they are the only honorable men in office.

Kasidiaris cleared over live TV attack on Communist MP

Golden Dawn lawmaker Ilias Kasidiaris on Friday was acquitted of charges of attempted grievous bodily harm against Communist Party (KKE) deputy Liana Kanelli following a televised brawl in June 2012.

An Athens court ruled that the assault was not as severe as described in the charges.

Moreover, judges did not convict Kasidiaris of plain assault because that would have required a lawsuit by the victim, which was never filed.

During the tense procedure, Kanelli was targeted for abuse by supporters of Kasidiaris who turned up at the court.

In his defense Kasidiaris, currently in pretrial custody together with other Golden Dawn MPs over charges of running a criminal organization, described the attack as an “unfortunate moment,” adding however that he had only slapped – but not punched – Kanelli.

The far-right deputy said he would have offered an apology if he had received one first.

Speaker says laws may not stand

Parliament Speaker Zoe Constantopoulou suggested on Wednesday that some laws voted by less than 151 of 300 MPs when Golden Dawn MPs being held in pretrial custody were not allowed to cast ballots might not stand and that she will review the relevant legislation.

“I am telling you directly that there is a possibility they could be canceled,” said Constantopoulou, who made special reference to the laws relating to bailout measures.

New Democracy responded by accusing her of trying to give Golden Dawn a central role in Greek politics. “Does this represent SYRIZA’s view?” asked the conservatives.

Constantopoulou said she would also dock MPs’ wages if they miss too many parliamentary sessions.

New podcast from Golden Dawn New York:

Quote:
Corruption in the Greek elections- Parties conspire together to undermine the votes for Golden Dawn, including the deployment of Anarchist militias at polling station to intimidate voters.

SYRIZA'S 'Chutzpah'-
The radical Left rescind's every one of its economic promises just 1 month after being elected. That hasn't stopped them from pretending otherwise: they took a little pink eraser to "Troika" and penciled in "The Institutional partners". They're hoping Greeks are too stupid to notice, but the walls are closing in on them.

SYRIZA Lays Out Red Carpet For Wall Street! -
"Radical" Varoufakis to appoint the New York Jewish banking house Lazard as "consultants" to restructure the public debt. Lazard helped crucify Greeks in 2012, where bonds were devalued by 70%, which almost exclusively hit pensioners and the life savings of working people. New York Jewish banks shorted the bonds and made a killing from this!

Ideology vs Reaction-
George and Ed talk about the importance of having a worldview and ideology, and avoiding the pitfalls of reactionary politics.

The Economic Meltdown Explained - An in depth discussion on why the Greek economic collapse was not because of any mythical retirements at age 45, but instead thanks to the collaboration of finance capital with Wall Street installed cronies in the government.

Democrats Lift Parliamentary Immunity For Golden Dawn, but Keep it For Themselves! - All of the political parties voted to lift Golden Dawn's political immunity, but our response is to lift theirs too. Discussion on the billions of dollars thieves in the establishment are able to take with impunity, and how Golden Dawn seeks to solve this problem with an audit that the system fears more than anything.

Forced Occupation Loan - George and Ed clarify what exactly the Forced occupation Loan is, and why it differs (legitimacy wise) from WWII reparations certain groups shake Germans down for.

Rats Abandon Ship! -
Noam Chomsky predicts the rise of Golden Dawn in light of SYRIZA's failure, while influential Leftists start apologizing to the public for contributing to the SYRIZA lie!

Independent Greeks: A Lesson About Kosher Conservatism -
George and Ed speak about Panos Kammenos and the Independent Greeks- the Coalition partner of SYRIZA. Warning: controlled opposition-whether in Greece or in the other countries whose parties follow the Kammenos "eurosceptic template- will give you nothing but a knife in the back.

Golden Dawn leadership to be released...likely without trial!-
The illegal detention of Golden Dawn leadership is now close to hitting its 18 month mark, and the system is afraid to actually make a decision whether to try them or not. Every day that passes exposes the fact that the crackdown was purely political motivated, and still failed!

Immigration- Why Northern Europe's ridiculous asylum seeker policies are enticing Africans and Asians to flood Mediterranean countries, and how capitalists in Germany and other nations use Dublin II to their advantage.

SYRIZA: Lied about the memorandum, but will keep its social program - SYRIZA lied about the only issue people voted them to confront, but have stated that they will create pathways to citizenship to illegal invaders which the vast majority of Greeks don't want.

The worrying re-legitimation of Golden Dawn
by thanasiskampagiannis · March 4, 2015

The 2013 arrest of Golden Dawn leader Nikolaos Mihaloliakos

The intervention of SYRIZA MP and Speaker of the House Zoi Konstantopoulou during the first (and so far sole) session of the Greek Parliament sent a chill through the country’s anti-fascist movement. The Speaker proposed the postponement of the parliamentary sitting because the District Attorney had not given permission to the MPs of Golden Dawn (Nikolaos Michaloliakos, Ilias Kasidiaris and Co.) to attend.

Given that the agenda of the session was a relatively unimportant vote (lifting the immunity of far-right ex-LAOS and now New Democracy politician Adonis Georgiadis), Konstantopoulou was effectively demanding the participation of Golden Dawn MPs in all parliamentary procedures, thereby rendering their detention pending trial meaningless.

Konstantopoulou had previously challenged the prosecution of Golden Dawn’s parliamentary whip and opposed the suspension of the party’s finances, again citing “democratic sensibilities”. This time, however, her intervention acquires institutional prestige that it didn’t have when she was just an opposition MP.

The argument that Golden Dawn is a “legitimate political party”, which the anti-fascist movement fought against in 2012-13 — and which took Pavlos Fyssas’s blood to be defeated — now returns, yet from the mouth of a left-wing Speaker of the House. It is certain that the state and its mechanisms, the police and the judges, took on board the message sent by Konstantopoulou, whatever her intentions.

How to explain these statements by a leading SYRIZA politician, which are far from being simply an individual aberration? To get past the idea that Konstantopoulou’s intervention can be explained by her “explosive temper” (!), let’s recall here the decision of SYRIZA’s Rena Dourou to give GD’s Ilias Panagiotaros offices in the Prefecture, statements by SYRIZA MPs Nikos Filis and Nikos Voutsis that questioned the validity of the prosecution of the neo-Nazis, and so on.

Before SYRIZA became the government, the alleged reason was the need to distance the Left from previous government’s Samaras-Dendias initiatives against Golden Dawn and avoid it being “trapped” in a “constitutional arc”. But now that SYRIZA is in government, why do such statements continue?

The explanation is twofold. First, the leadership of SYRIZA is so deeply committed to “bourgeois legality” that it considers that Nazis should have rights “since people voted for them”. Of course “people” voted for Hitler as well, but this does not make Dachau and Auschwitz — a repeat of which would be the outcome of the avowed political program of Golden Dawn — less horrifying. Second, SYRIZA has put forward a strategy of division of the Right, with ANEL in government, Golden Dawn in the far-right opposition and the Karamanlis wing of New Democracy inhabiting the Presidency. This strategy supposedly disrupts Samaras’s New Democracy, thus justifying all compromises: the coalition with Panos Kammenos, the Presidency to the hands of Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the “democratic” whitewashing of Kasidiaris and so on.

A consequence of this dangerous strategy is that Golden Dawn now only appears in the publications and websites of SYRIZA as a bogeyman, one used to frighten creditors and, of course, discipline those on the Left who criticise the government’s retreats: “Sit still, because after SYRIZA comes Golden Dawn”. It is no accident that the Nazi organisation is spreading exactly the same message to its supporters.

In practice, this line means underestimation of the threat or, worse, paralysis in the anti-fascist movement: “Let the judiciary do its work undistracted,” as Tsipras said after the arrest of Golden Dawn leaders — even though Konstantopoulou’s proposal represents a direct intervention against the “independence of the judiciary”.

As in other fields, the anti-fascist movement — which has many good comrades from SYRIZA in its ranks — must fight independently for the realisation of its goals, the most important of which is now the conviction of the neo-Nazis in the upcoming trial. The worrying intervention of Konstantopoulou should serve as a warning to every anti-fascist.

Thanasis is one of the lawyers representing victims’ families in the criminal prosecution of Golden Dawn. A version of this article was originally published in the Greek Workers’ Solidarity newspaper

http://left-flank.org/2015/03/04/wor....ezU7OHhf.dpuf

Of course it's good for SYRIZA to try to divide "the right". Golden Dawn's the only authentic right that exists in Greece, so if SYRIZA wants to go a bit easier on Golden Dawn to weaken the fake conservatives of New Democracy, more power to them.

SYRIZA and Golden Dawn: A Parliamentary Chronicle of what the "Global Left" doesn't want you to know

On March 4, 2015, prominent US intellectual Noam Chomsky was reported to have stated in an interview with Democracy Now that the reaction of European elites to SYRIZA, i.e, the pre-emption of its salutary social-democratic function as a means of saving capitalism from itself, "could lead to a right-wing response [...] The alternative to SYRIZA might be Golden Dawn, a neo-Nazi party."

It wasn't in any way an original formulation of the "Greek dilemma" in terms of a choice between the "carrot" and the "stick", between EU fiscal support for the Social Democratic desire to use a possible slackening of finance capital's stranglehold on the masses in order to curtail working-class militancy and the harsher, far less "attractive" alternative of holding the working class in its place through formal class dictatorship -- fascism. SYRIZA MP, Finance Minister and Anglo media darling Yanis Varoufakis had already put things in the same way in his Press conference with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble a month before, on February 5:

As finance minister in a government facing from day one emergency circumstances caused by a savage debt deflationary crisis, I feel that the German nation is the one nation in Europe that can understand us better than anyone else.

No-one understands better than the people of this land how a severely depressed economy, combined with a ritual national humiliation and unending hopelessness can hatch the serpent’s egg within its society.

When I return home tonight, I will find myself in a parliament in which the third-largest party is not a neo-Nazi party, it is a Nazi party.
But this pretty straightforward form of "blackmail" to the EU oligarchs --"either us or Golden Dawn"-- was not original either; Vafoufakis was merely echoing SYRIZA's leader, Alexis Tsipras, who had already put things this way back in the June 2012 elections, in an interview with Reuters:
Tsipras said Syriza's rapid rise showed how Greeks were channeling their rage at the austerity measures - which have sent the economy into a deep recession and pushed unemployment close to 23 percent - into an alternative political movement.

Given public anger at Greece's long-established parties, he added, "if Syriza didn't exist today the alternative would be extremes, chaos and Golden Dawn," a neo-Nazi party.

The rhetorical effectivity of the mantra depends on a number of structural preconditions, of which one is tantamount: the disappearance of the alternative represented by the Communist Party of Greece from international awareness, in classic Social Democratic fashion. Social Democracy comes to the rescue of a troubled capitalism by supposedly preventing the rise of both fascism and communism, as the classic SPD poster above has it; and it is definitely interesting that in his Reuters interview, Mr. Tsipras spoke of "extremes" in the plural, implying of course that there are two such extremes, as good Social Democrats will always do in times of capitalist crisis, though of course he was cunning enough to name only one: the other is, in his conveniently fuzzy formulation, "chaos" (though one would be tempted to remind one's readers that US Secretary George Marshall, responding precisely to the communist threat in Greece, also used this word as a code for "communist danger", in the context of the promulgation of the "Truman Doctrine" in the midst of the Greek Civil War; and of course, that SYRIZA's repeatedly stated ambition is precisely "a new Marshall plan" for Europe).

The "SYRIZA or Golden Dawn" line of national and international blackmail, then, depends structurally on a vanishing act it is difficult to distinguish from "wishful thinking": on February 18, the staunch supporter of the party in the UK, The Guardian, simply "forgot" about the existence of KKE (5.47% in last elections) and refashioned the Greek political landscape so that ANTARSYA (0.6% in last elections), whose basic line has always been that of "critical support" for SYRIZA, appears as the only "left" opposition in the country. A bout of similar amnesia hit the US magazine Foreign Policy, which obligingly reproduced the FinMin's dilemma on February 19, blissfully forgetting the existence of KKE. Similarly, and since early February, Greek social media were inundated with endless repetitions of the "dilemma", all of them likewise "forgetting" the possibility of a communist resolution of the postmodern version of the "Karamanlis or the tanks" quandary. As I pointed out in my commentary on this "intuitive" trend, the boundary line between "diagnosing" a fascist danger and in fact blackmailing others that if SYRIZA doesn't get the money it wants, you yourself will go for the fascists --the boundary line between "diagnosis" and "threat"-- is pretty blurry. But this isn't the only complication that attends the "dilemma." There is also the directly related question of whether SYRIZA and Golden Dawn really represent a clear, mutually exclusive choice. Is political reality in Greece interpretable in terms of the dilemma "SYRIZA or Golden Dawn" or is it rather that there is no dilemma, that the real formula for how capitalist power exercises itself at present in the country is in fact "SYRIZA and Golden Dawn"?

The remainder of this article will restrict itself to a mere listing of events that pertain to the parliamentary activity of the two parties in response to each other from November 2013 to the present; it isn't the only dimension of their relationship to take into account, as there are equally important ones in the syndicalist and local administration terrain, but these would require a far longer piece to cover.

On November 13 2013, SYRIZA's main party newspaper Avgi published articles from journalists Kyritsis and Anandranistakis that fiercely attacked Dimitris Hatzopoulos, a sketch artist for the Greek newspaper Ta Nea (The News), for a sketch (shown above) that satirized current SYRIZA MP (and at that time ANEL MP) Rachel Makri, as well as SYRIZA MP (and current Chair of Parliament) Zoe Konstantopoulou for their very media-oriented show of "militancy" during the period of the protests against the shutting down of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) (Hatzopoulos had depicted them as "left" and "right" strip dancers on TV aerial poles, who enjoy attacking opponents with lawsuits). It was the first time Avgi so passionately defended an MP that then belonged to another -- and indeed, a far right wing -- party.

On December 18 2013, the Greek Parliament held a vote for the suspension of the state funding of Golden Dawn, which had been under criminal investigation for the murder of Pavlos Fyssas, the murder of immigrant worker Sahjat Lukman, the attack on KKE/PAME members in Perama, attacks with knives on immigrants, attempted arson, military training, and illegal possession of firearms, among many other charges. ANEL MPs T. Kouik, G. Dimaras, V. Kapernaros, P. Haikalis, N. Nikolopoulos, G. Ntavris, M. Ouzounidis, X. Giatagana, Rachel Makri and K. Giovanopoulos voted against the suspension of state funding for Golden Dawn, while the leader of the party Panos Kammenos chose to be absent from the vote. SYRIZA MP Zoe Konstantopoulou also chose to be absent, while SYRIZA MP Manolis Glezos voted against the suspension of the state funding of Golden Dawn.

On February 28 2014, SYRIZA MP Nikos Voutsis (video above) accused the party of New Democracy of "nodding towards the Right and towards the voters of Golden Dawn", and of "machinating" to "render Golden Dawn illegal." The same expression --"machination"-- was used by Golden Dawn itself, in the same parliamentary session (see video above).

On March 5 2014, SYRIZA MP Zoe Konstantopoulou distanced herself from SYRIZA concerning the parliamentary vote on waiving parliamentary immunity from prosecution of Golden Dawn MPs, referring to the vote as a "constitutional deviation". SYRIZA MP Manolis Glezos sided with Konstantopoulou again, arguing that legislative measures are no way to deal with Golden Dawn.

http://tvxs.gr/sites/default/files/a...5-untitled.jpg

On March 21 2014, and during her appearance in a TV show hosted by far-right publicist Giorgos Tragas (left on picture above, hosting four Golden Dawn MPs; Tragas is infamous for promoting Golden Dawn under the "anti-Memorandum", "anti-German" umbrella) SYRIZA MP Zoe Konstantopoulou stated that Golden Dawn MPs cannot constitutionally be deprived in toto of Parliamentary immunity for the criminal activity of a number of them. On the same day, Golden Dawn heralded her statements on its web page (picture below).

On April 7 2014, the journalist of the conservative Greek newspaper Eleftheros Typos (Free Press) Despina Kontaraki was arrested, after a lawsuit filed by the former ANEL (and current SYRIZA) MP Rachel Makri, on the grounds that Kontaraki had reported that Makri had accused the then ND-PASOK government (in a parliamentary session of April 2) that "it is imprisoning innocent people" (meaning Golden Dawn). Yet Eleftheros Typos was not the only newspaper that reported Makri's statement. Major Greek newspapers Ethnos and Vima corroborate that Makri had said, word for word, what Eleftheros Typos had published. They add that she characterized the government as "fascist" for persecuting Golden Dawn; the same word was used, with the same meaning, by Golden Dawn MP Elias Panagiotaros.

On the same day, SYRIZA issued an announcement concerning the arrest of Kontaraki, which neglects to mention anything about the fact that the arrest was caused by Makri's lawsuit against her, even though SYRIZA's own newspaper, Avgi, had reported the same statements that Kontaraki had reported and been sued for. Even more impressively, SYRIZA-affiliated journalist Dimitris Trimis, one of the country's most reputed "anti Golden Dawn" investigative journalists, was hosted by Avgi on May 11 2014 in an article which defends Makri against the journalist, arguing that there is no evidence showing Makri had really stated what had been published by a host of newspapers, including Avgi itself.

On May 7 2014, Rachel Makri, along with other ANEL MPs (Haikalis, Ouzounidou, et al.), were videotaped and photographed in Parliament while showing "solidarity" to "regretful" Golden Dawn MP Stathis Boukouras, who had pleaded not to be sent to jail for criminal fascist activity (photo above, Boukouras seated, Makri in the polka dot scarf standing above him).

On May 8 2014, SYRIZA MP Nikos Voutsis, speaking in an interview with the Real-fm radio station, returned to the issue of the imprisonment of Golden Dawn MPs and stated that the evidence the Greek state had collected against them was laughably inadequate and "had no chance" in court.

On the next day, May 9 2014, Golden Dawn showcased Voutsis as effectively supporting its court defense line on its official web page (screenshot above).

On May 19 2014, SYRIZA candidate for Mayor of Athens (and current SYRIZA MP and cabinet member) Gabriel Sakelarides stated, after the completion of the first round of the election, that "his party does not shut the door to Golden Dawn supporters, since 15% of Athenians cannot logically be said to be Nazis."

On the same day, May 19 2014, and during an interview with the journalist Aris Portosalte on SKAI TV, the then SYRIZA Press Officer (and current MP and cabinet member) Panos Skourletis stated the following: "we shouldn't give away the people who, because of their choices, voted for Golden Dawn in the first round. What supported Golden Dawn is not a unified neo-Nazi 'thing', to use a phrase that has been widely used for the past weeks [...] Every vote we detach from Nazism and fascism is welcome. And I think everyone should agree to this, Mr. Portosalte. We must reduce the strength of Golden Dawn. Don't you agree? "

On May 21 2014, and during a TV interview, SYRIZA leader and current Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated that the struggle of his party is not against "the misguided voters" of Golden Dawn. To quote his statement at further length: "our struggle to eliminate this phenomenon, our head-on collision with the dark ideology of intolerance and fascism, our head-on collision with the members and executives of Golden Dawn, shouldn't become a head-on collision with their misguided voters." It is notable that on March 25 (about two months before this statement), a documentary on the political rise of SYRIZA had shown Tsipras look rather amused by Golden Dawn MP's Kasidiaris live-on-TV attack against KKE MP Liana Kanelli (documentary video scene above). The screening of the scene, and the conversion of a fascist attack to an issue of "psychopathology", had caused an angry TV response from the KKE MP, who was still awaiting the trial of her attacker.

On May 22 2014, days before the second round of elections for her precinct, SYRIZA MP and current Prefect of Attica Rena Dourou, to whose defense Kanelli had rallied right before she was punched by Kasidiaris back in 2012 (video link above) stated, in an interview with SKAI, that what is "really fascist" is the "bundling together" of the supporters of Golden Dawn; she continued: "Those who have shamelessly brought us to this, to the economic crisis and the crisis of democracy, criminalize the voters of Golden Dawn, whereas they were before winking at them through the General secretary of the government." Said General Secretary was Takis Baltakos, who had been disgraced and ousted from the New Democracy Party after the revelation of his secret talks with Golden Dawn thug Ilias Kasidiaris (Kanelli's attacker; Golden Dawn itself leaked the Baltakos-Kasidiaris talks after the ND-PASOK government began prosecuting its MPs, as retaliation).

On October 20 2014, Rachel Makri, who had meanwhile left ANEL, declared her full support for SYRIZA.

On December 30 2014, the leader of the National Front in France, Marine Le Pen, congratulated SYRIZA and Golden Dawn on their common stance against the election of the government candidate for President of the Republic.

On January 14 2015, SYRIZA's newspaper Avgi published an interview with Rachel Makri, who had just been announced as a candidate with SYRIZA in the upcoming elections, on the party's electoral goals.

On the night of the elections of the 25th of January 2015, the leader of ANEL Panos Kammenos was the first to announce the formation of a coalition government of SYRIZA and ANEL, before Alexis Tsipras, whose party had won the election, had the opportunity to speak on his party's decision, as is of course customary. ANEL's electoral TV ad had already made apparent that the party intended to play the role of a "right-wing counterbalance" in coalition with SYRIZA, following on a long trail of inter-party contacts since at least 2013.

On February 21 2015, a local news website revealed that SYRIZA MP Dimitris Kodelas shared a friendly dinner table with Golden Dawn MP Giorgos Galeos at the Trade Association of Nafplio New Year's gala (photo, Kodelas in the middle of the table, Galeos to the extreme left).

On February 24 2015, SYRIZA MP and new Chair of the Parliament Zoe Konstantopoulou caused a parliamentary uproar when she postponed a vote on lifting the immunity of New Democracy MP Adonis Georgiades because the imprisoned MPs of Golden Dawn had been prevented from attending the vote.

On March 5 2015, Zoe Konstantopoulou argued, as new Parliament chair, that the operation of the Parliament for the last several months was in fact illegal, since the Golden Dawn MPs who are in prison on charges of criminal activity had not been allowed to be present at the Parliament. The ΚΚΕ issued an announcement wherein it stated that Konstantopoulou's stance "raises many questions" and that it "cultivates tolerance Towards a Nazi criminal organization." Golden Dawn, on the other hand, hailed the constitutional wisdom of the SYRIZA MP, and attacked "the Bolsheviks' push toward constitutional deviation" (yes, the phrase Konstantopoulou had herself used a year before, on March 5 2014).

On the same day (March 5), Konstantopoulou stated in an interview with ERT Open: "The criminal behavior that has been recorded for several decades has been fought against by some people, but not everyone. This doesn't mean that Golden Dawn is politically an unacceptable party. That there are indications of Nazi ideas doesn't mean we can impose discounts on democracy."

On the evening of the 5th of March, SYRIZA (former ANEL) MP Rachel Makri, who had earlier been mobilized by her new party for a slanderous attack against KKE for allegedly betraying the striking workers of the Coca Cola plant by advertising the soft drink in Rizospastis (Avgi has removed the video evidence from its youtube channel since, but you can see the newspaper logo on the screenshot above), was widely photographed sitting next to the former government General Secretary, the Kasidiaris liaison Takis Baltakos, whom SYRIZA MP Rena Dourou had blamed (22/5/2014) as responsible for "whitewashing" Nazis, as they are hanging out, watching a PAO BC game and...enjoying their Coke (photo below).

On March 6 2015, the Appeal Court of Athens found Golden Dawn MP Ilias Kasidiaris innocent concerning the attack, in June 2012, against KKE MP Liana Against Kanelli, though it has been shown live on television and recorded on video, opining that Kasidiaris did not really intend serious bodily harm and that he "slipped" rather than intentionally attack her with his fists. KKE issued an immediate announcement, speaking of a "provocative court decision" that "contributes to the cultivation and reinforcement of a climate of tolerance toward Golden Dawn's criminal activity." SYRIZA, on the other hand, has stayed entirely silent, on both official and individual levels. Its newspaper, Avgi, simply reported the KKE announcement, while Rena Dourou, who was present in the attack, and who was the one Kanelli had defended, did not attend the trial and did not testify against Kasidiaris (see Kanellis's own video interview here, where she also notes that SYRIZA MP Manolis Glezos had insisted that she not press charges against Kasidiaris; and that SYRIZA's nominee for President of the Republic, ND's Prokopis Pavlopoulos, also present during the live attack did nothing to stop it and showed no interest in her condition after it). After it was all over with the trial, Dourou contented herself with giving the following moral lecture, the only thing any SYRIZA member has stated on the scandalous court decision (which follows on the heels of another Golden Dawn acquittal, for a videotaped attack against immigrant small commodity sellers): "Ilias Kasidiaris was discharged for attacking Liana Kanelli. However, facts are persistent and were recorded for the sake of history by the TV cameras. This events remain recorded in the collective consciousness of the people without ever being anulled. Just as matters of ethos and political ethics are never anulled in a democracy. The events are real and will always impugn on individual consciences."

"Either SYRIZA OR Golden Dawn", then, reader?

Or "Both SYRIZA AND Golden Dawn", both Social Democracy and Fascism, as equally necessary and complementary weapons of the bourgeoisie against the organized labor movement and the Communist Party?

You answer the question. We have answered it long ago as far as it concerns our self-defense.

Europe far-right parties meet in St Petersburg, Russia

Delegates to the International Russian Conservative Forum in St Petersburg, 22 March 2015

Some 150 representatives of far-right parties across Europe have been meeting in Russia to co-ordinate policy.

Organisers say they want to unite "nationalist" forces

The event in St Petersburg, organised by the pro-Kremlin Rodina party, heard strong criticism of the West's support for the Ukrainian government.
Those attending included the ousted leader of the British National Party, Nick Griffin, Udo Voigt from the German neo-Nazi NPD, and Greece's Golden Dawn.

A small anti-fascist protest outside the venue was dispersed by police.

Organisers say the event, the International Russian Conservative Forum, is aimed at promoting "traditional values" and uniting nationally-orientated forces in Europe and Russia.

Opponents say it is a contradiction for Russia to host such a meeting while the Kremlin criticises what it sees as "fascist" tendencies in the Ukrainian government.

Here's a blast from the past from Glenn Beck warning Conservatives about Golden Dawn deciphering their lies:

How Putin is making Greece's Nazi problem worse

Hannah Gais, The Eastern Project

It’s not just Greece’s economy that’s keeping the country’s neo-Nazi party afloat. Russia may also have a hand in the party’s continued relevance.

The Golden Dawn, otherwise known as Chrysi Avgi, rose from obscurity in 2012, when it won 18 seats in the Hellenic parliament. Although a number of party members  —  including its founder, Nikolaos Michaloliakos   — were scooped up in a series of arrests following the murder of anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas in 2013, the party’s anti-immigrant, anti-austerity platform has kept the Golden Dawn from slinking back into the shadows.

In 2014, the party won three of 21 seats in the country’s delegation to the European parliament  —  up from zero seats in 2009. The party lost one of its 18 seats in Greece’s 2015 legislative elections in January, but a substantial win by the far-left Syriza resulted in Golden Dawn shifting from the fifth to the third largest party in Hellenic parliament.

As if the Golden Dawn’s political persuasion wasn’t enough to keep lawmakers up at night, the party’s “pivot” to Russia should be.

From the party’s presence at an annual conference of right-wing extremists in St. Petersburg to Putin’s growing support for Europe’s far-right, the Golden Dawn is proving to be just one of many “powder kegs” that Europe has failed to effectively neutralize. It could prove to be a critical asset for Putin and his allies as he seeks to destabilize Europe from within.

Putin has courted Europe’s far-right for some time, and his crackdown on gay rights, push for closer ties between church and state, and embrace of ethno-nationalism have made him appealing to these groups. Like Russia’s troop movements in Ukraine, it’s a relationship that has its roots in the east.

Many Eastern European far-right leaders have strong ties to Russia, some of which are more dubious than others. Volen Siderov, the leader of Bulgaria’s Ataka party, has thrown his support behind the Russian president and even presented Putin with a 60th birthday present in person in October 2012. A year later, Gábor Vona, the leader of the Hungarian far-right party Jobbik, made the rounds in Moscow.

One of his speaking arrangements was borne out of an invitation from Alexandr Dugin, a self-proclaimed Russian fascist and academic who many see as the architect of Putin’s Crimea land grab. (The Hungarian neo-Nazi party now grapples accusations of working for and receiving funding from Russia.)

Today, Putin can also claim support from far-right parties in France, Austria, Denmark and, of course, Greece.

“The relationship between Russia and Western Europe’s far right may be a marriage of convenience, but it also shows signs of genuine affection,” Alina Polyakova of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars noted in World Affairs.

“Closer ties with rising political parties in the EU will give Putin more leverage against NATO. For its part, the European right sees the Russian leader as a staunch defender of national sovereignty and conservative values who has challenged US influence and the idea of ‘Europe’ in a way that mirrors their own convictions.”

That romance was on display at the International Russian Conservative Forum, which was held this past week at Holiday Inn in St. Petersburg. (If the first thing that comes to mind after hearing “Holiday Inn” is a song by Pitbull, take a quick break to read this piece by Max Seddon. Party, it wasn’t.)

Organized by Russia’s Rodina (Motherland) party  —  which was previously banned from participating in elections due to its overtly racist advertisements  —  the conference featured a number of European far-right and neo-Nazi groups, including Forza Nuova (Italy), National Democratic Party (Germany), the Alliance for Peace and Freedom and the Freedom Party of Austria (FPO), and, again, the Golden Dawn.

Given that Golden Dawn was one of the most powerful parties present  —  Jobbik and a number of other larger far-right parties were conspicuously absent  —  the forum was clearly by and for the fringes. Yet, as the Wall Street Journal notes, the forum had some clear ties to the Kremlin.

Rodina, led by Aleksei Zhuravlyov, saw its election ban lifted after it threw its support behind Putin a few years ago. Some of former Rodina members found their way into Putin’s administration, including the founder of the party, Dmitry Rogozin, who is now Russia’s deputy prime minister. Other signs were less obvious. For instance, unlike events held by opposition figures, there was little police interference.

But a fringe party conferences aren’t the only ties that bind Golden Dawn to Russia. It has received, and probably will continue to receive, funding from Russia. Back in 2012, an op-ed in Pravda stressed that Greece should take Russia’s helping hand, and its money, so it can become a prosperous country again. (The writer estimated it would take a year.) But the real connections are even shadier than that. Christopher Lawrence noted in Truthout:

Golden Dawn has strong connections to the ultra-nationalist group Russky Obraz, which in turn has shadowy connections to Russian secret police and Putin’s political party, United Russia. It is entirely likely, even probable, that Russia sees Golden Dawn as an important element in its strategy to expand influence in the Eastern Mediterranean, especially in light of the threat to its bases in Syria.

Then there’s Dugin. Dugin has been in contact with Michaloliakos for years  —  a fact that the Golden Dawn proudly advertizes. He’s made a point to establish good relations with the Golden Dawn, and met with representatives in May 2014 to discuss the situation in Ukraine, bilateral relations between the two countries, and other foreign policy issues.

The Golden Dawn, in turn, has opposed sanctions against Russia and praised Russia’s efforts to oppose what it sees as American and European hegemony. Indeed, Russia is its “natural ally”in the struggle against American expansionism and for a “culture against the usurers and the decadent.”

Analysts have been noting that some of these ties, particularly to Dugin, exist in Syriza as well.

US-government funded Radio Free/Radio Liberty reported on a series of leaked emails from December 2014 that detailed correspondence between Georgy Gavrish, a friend of Dugin and his Eurasianist movement, and Syriza and Independent Greeks party members.

According to blogger Christo Grozev, the emails showed “very close cooperation on strategy, on PR, and so on,” between the two groups. Two figures, Panos Kammenos, the current defense minister, and Nikos Kotzias, the foreign minister, have received significant attention for their ties to Dugin.

While individual Syriza or Independent Greeks party members’ ties shouldn’t be ignored, it’s also critical to frame the party’s engagement as a whole in a strategic context. Since Alexis Tsipras’ election in January 2015, relations between Russia and Greece have warmed significantly. Just days after the election, Russia announced it would lift the food import ban if Greece left the EU.

Tsipras and others have questioned sanctions against Russia, and even looked into the possibility of receiving financial assistance from Russia if negotiations with European officials fell through. Other economic issues have come to the fore, including a charm offensive in Russia and China.

Syriza’s “repositioning” toward Russia is likely far less ideological than its official’s ties to Russia would lead us to believe.

For one, thanks to close cultural, religious, economic and historical ties, Greece has always been close to Russia. In that case, Syriza’s repositioning could be a product of its freedom of movement  —  freedom granted by the party’s more antagonistic position toward the Euro zone.

Most likely, Syriza is using its relations with Russia as a way to twist the troika’s arm, saying, “If you don’t give us what we want in negotiations, we’ll go with those guys.”

Given the ongoing situation in Ukraine and the EU’s increasingly antagonistic diplomatic relationship with Russia, it could be an effective move. Greece pulling out of the Euro zone may have more appeal than a major European power having a cozy relationship with the West’s current adversary.

Meanwhile, Golden Dawn’s shift is one that the rest of the West has far less control over. Given the party’s record, it’s also an objectively more dangerous one. After all, if Syriza fails in its mission to save the Greek economy, the Golden Dawn may be the next in line.

Right-Wing Groups Find a Haven, for a Day, in Russia
By NEIL MacFARQUHARMARCH 22, 2015

Representatives of fringe political organizations gathered Sunday in St. Petersburg, Russia.

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — A motley crew of representatives of fringe right-wing political organizations in Europe and the United States used a conference here on Sunday to denounce what they called the degradation of white, Christian traditions in the West. Their hosts used the conference to advance Russia’s effort to lure political allies of any stripe.

Railing against same-sex marriage, immigration, New York financiers, radical Islam and globalization, among other targets, one speaker after another lauded Russia and President Vladimir V. Putin as a pillar of robust, conservative, even manly values.

Mr. Putin has for some time sought international influence by casting Russia as the global guardian of traditional mores. Yet the effort has acquired new urgency, as Moscow seeks to undermine support in Europe for economic sanctions and other policies meant to isolate Moscow over its aggressive actions against Ukraine.

“Putin’s calculation is that Europe should change its attitude toward Ukraine, and it can easily happen when and if internal European problems outweigh Ukrainian events,” said Nikolai Petrov, a political scientist in Moscow.

“They can make friends with everybody who poses a threat to the ruling parties, including radical forces,” he said. “If the radical nationalists are increasing their weight in Europe, they can serve as good allies for the Kremlin.”

Organizers said the one-day conference, officially billed as the International Russian Conservative Forum, was just the first such outreach effort. Russia is ready to make common cause with leftists, centrists, greens and any other potential allies critical of American domination and other social ills, they said.

If the forum was the first step, however, it proved rather anemic. Representatives of the more effective right-wing European political parties — notably the National Front in France, Jobbik in Hungary and Austria’s Freedom Party — stayed away. Two members of the European Parliament from Golden Dawn, the Greek neo-fascist party, spoke, but one used his time to pitch increased economic cooperation between Russia and Greece.

Russia’s nationalistic Rodina, or Motherland, party was the main organizer of the conference. The party’s deputy leader for ideological issues, Fyodor V. Biryukov, described the central goal as building new organizational bodies for “the traditionalists.” The National Front and others had been invited but were “too busy,” he said.

Experts said, however, that the more mainstream parties were apparently leery of being lumped with groups seen as neo-Nazis in their home countries. Two leaders of Rodina who had been listed as speakers also did not show up. Rodina exists as a kind of nationalistic branch of Mr. Putin’s ruling United Russia party.

The National Front was contesting local elections across France on Sunday. But Ludovic de Danne, an adviser on European affairs to the party’s leader, Marine Le Pen, said he had known nothing about the St. Petersburg meeting.

Of course, Ms. Le Pen has no need to sit in a cramped conference room at the St. Petersburg Holiday Inn with 300 other delegates. On Friday, in an interview on state-run Rossiya 24, a national cable news channel, she said both Europe and Russia were hurt by sanctions and thus needed to work together to dismantle them. Last year, the National Front secured a multimillion-dollar loan from a Russian bank. But beyond plane tickets and hotel rooms, it is unclear that marginal organizations can expect much, particularly given Russia’s financial problems.

In her absence, Ms. Le Pen was criticized by various participants. One French speaker said she had gay friends, while Roberto Fiore, a longtime war horse of right-wing politics in Italy, sniffed that the French party had started to take a “slightly more politically correct line.”

Mr. Fiore praised Russia as the vanguard of Europe’s future, a common theme among both Russian and foreign speakers. “We are the avant-garde of a new Europe that will very soon emerge,” he said. “It will be a Christian Europe, a patriotic Europe, and Russia will not just be a part but a leading force.”

Others were even more effusive. Jim Dowson, a British nationalist, flashed a picture on an overhead screen of Mr. Putin shirtless riding a bear. “Obama and America, they are like females. They are feminized men,” he said. “But you have been blessed by a man who is a man, and we envy that.”

Conference participants repeatedly endorsed the efforts of the separatists in Ukraine, where, Russia says, a “fascist” coup overthrew the legitimately elected government in February 2014.

The United States, as the main adversary, attracted the most hostility, but a couple of American speakers received warm applause by painting Washington as an aggressor trying to export its misguided new values.

Jared Taylor, who runs a website called American Renaissance, said the descendants of white Europeans risked being swept away by a wave of Africans, Central Americans and Asians. The United States, which he said worshiped diversity rather than Christianity, “is the greatest enemy of tradition everywhere.”

Anton Shekhovtsov, an expert on European extremist groups, said the tradition of Russia’s currying favor with even the fringes of European political groups was an old one. Lenin, he noted, used to call leftist agitators “useful Western idiots” who helped block attempts to isolate Russia after the Bolshevik Revolution. (Behold! The New York Times attacks itself in its zeal to make Golden Dawn look bad.)

The gathering drew about 40 protesters outside the hotel, carrying signs saying things like “We don’t want foreign Nazis in St. Petersburg, we have more than enough of them here.” The police detained eight of them.

Nikolay Khalip contributed reporting from St. Petersburg, and Maïa de la Baume from Paris.

SYRIZA MPs Object to Greek Navy Seals’ Chant at March 25 Parade

SYRIZA and PASOK MPs strongly objected to a nationalistic chant by Greek navy seals (OYK) at the March 25 parade.

During the parade, the navy seals chanted several of their slogans, but one in particular angered a number of MPs.

Our dream is to enter Constantinople, raise our flag and sing our national anthem,” are the words of the controversial chant that made several politicians object and ask that the army high command and the Defense Ministry to take disciplinary action.

SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis tweeted: “The nationalistic OYK chant at the parade is contrary to the country’s foreign policy. The government has the obligation to put a stop to that.”

SYRIZA MP Vasiliki Katrivanou wrote on her Facebook account: “The OYK slogans at the March 25 parade are a direct provocation against democracy… It is inconceivable that the act would remain unpunished… It is a reminder that the army should be cleansed of these fascist and extreme rightist cells that remain strong. They are nourished (once more) by impunity.”

PASOK accused Defense Minister Panos Kammenos of provocative statements on foreign policy.

“The OYK were chanting slogans that dispute existing national borders. But when the Defense Minister is so irresponsible, what can one expect? The ignorant Minister, and ANEL President, has threatened to release jihadists in Europe… SYRIZA follows blindly on the downslope.”
