I saw a post by a soldier who told the others to try not to die while the government is shutdown because their families will not be able to afford to bury them.
He was not joking.......... No death benefits for military during shutdown WASHINGTON – In the event of a government shutdown, the Pentagon would have to delay payments of the $100,000 death benefit that families receive if a military service member dies in the line of duty, a senior defense official said Friday, Families would get the money eventually after the government re-opens, but they could have problems paying expenses, including for the funerals, the official said, adding that the Pentagon will reach out to various military aid agencies to help those who need it. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss personnel details, said as many as 150 death benefits are paid out every month. |

If it were shut down for any length of time, I see the closing/halting of SBA loans being a big problem, especially in a weak and wheezing economy.
Also, this is getting close to prime national park visitation time...and this will probably be where the bulk of 'regular people' feel it.

...however, a push message on my iPad just said that a deal was brokered and there won't be a shutdown....

One side caved in at the last minute. We will have to wait until tomorrow to see which side.
My bet is the tea party candidates who reneged on their promise to cut $100 billion from the 2011 budget. Quote:

I wouldn't be surprised. I'd say a lot of those teabaggers jumped on the bandwagon just to get their faces back to the federal trough. We'll see just how much they conviction they have soon.

At the last minute the Democrats should add that every black person and college student gets a free $1000 check mailed to them as part of the new budget.
Then watch as the Republicans are outraged at that. Obama 2012 for the win! |

Looks like the Tea Party members accepted cuts of $40 billion for the rider against Planned Parenthood providing abortions in Washington D.C.
Before any of you congratulate them, remember, they traded $60 billion of promised cuts, to put back in place a law that Democrats went along with for 14 years before they changed it a few years back. Unless I see anything else, it looks like the Tea Party candidates screwed their supporters. And here is the worse part - the Tea Party supporters will love every bit of it. Still no vote, Congress critters still blowing hot air. It is now after midnight, technically we have a partial government shutdown.
Update: Deal will not be finalized until next week, I just heard. Update number two: This is a freaking joke. It only extends to April 15th. Last edited by SmokyMtn; April 8th, 2011 at 11:11 PM. |

This is the bill that the jackasses passed this evening: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/.../~c1127043So::
A recurring theme in each section: Quote:
It is time to end the fraud that is the War on Terrorism, the federal government that is out of control, and dissolve the US Constitution. Anyone recall the words that the Founding Fathers of this country put their lives on the line for back on July 4th, 1776? Quote:

Mix together some high fructose corn syrup, JewTube, bio-engineered foods, and plenty of niggerball on TV, and you have a potent concoction being force fed to us through a firehose sized enema tube to keep us docile and smiling while Rome burns....

May as well keep this thread because the District of Criminals are likely to pull this again next Friday.
