European Jewish group expresses outrage over Croatian Nazi satire

BRUSSELS (EJP)---A Jewish group has expressed outrage over a satire featuring Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader that it says "belittled the Holocaust."

Croatian police detained and interrogated last week an opposition activist who posted on facebook a photo montage portrait of Sanader in a Nazi uniform which violated Croatia's law banning Nazi propaganda.

Sanader said he deplored any use of Nazi symbols for the purposes of political satire.

In a statement, the Brussels-based Rabbinical Center of Europe (RCE) acknowledged Croatia’s right to free speech but said "there must be zero-tolerance for using humor in the Nazi genocidal murder of six million Jews".

"As individuals who know the poisonous taste of discrimination, the satires are loathsome. Freedom of expression must never lead to arrogance, it must have a certain limit," the RCE said.

"People of goodwill understand that the use of hateful Holocaust imagery to criticize is unacceptable and beyond the pale of legitimate political criticism. It defames human dignity."

A delegation of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe visited Croatia last March to discuss the protection of Jewish cemeteries in the country.

I've heard and read this dozens of times before: they're advocates of free speech, unless it irks them. That makes for some rather clumsy posturing.

Default Austria Bans Concert by Croatian Singer Marko ‘Thompson’ Perkovic

Zagreb, April 25 (CP) – The Austrian authorities have decided to ban the concert planned for June 7 by Croatian singer/songwriter Marko ‘Thompson’ Perkovic.

The concert planned to be held in St. Andrae in south Carinthia, prior to the start of EURO 2008 was deemed as a heightened risk to public security, as it could spark clashes between football supporters.

The Austrian APA news agency reporting on the ban has explained that the Thompson’s lyrics had neo-fascist overtones and some even came from the Ustashe repertoire. It also describes them as controversial and some as being clearly neo-fascist.

Another Thompson concert that was to be held in the Zurich canton in Switzerland on June 11 has also been banned for the same reasons

Split’s Jews Appalled With Expression of Anger

SPLIT, CROATIA - Split prepared for the arrival of Avram Grant with the graffiti in Ivana Gunduliceva Street “Avram Grant Jewish Shit!” However, some people were delighted with the news that the Israeli coach would arrive, and planted new flowers in front of the entrance to Poljud, where a press conference was to be held tonight. The president of the Jewish community in Split, Ana Lebl, is appalled at the expression of hate that was pointed at the Jewish faith, even though they have nothing to do with that arrival of the coach Avram Grant.

“We condemn and are against any talk of hate in any form, pointed against anyone, either on a national, religious or other basis. We welcome the reaction of Torcida who have distanced themselves from the graffiti” commented Ana Lebl. She added that she does not know when the graffiti will be removed, and stresses that it is the picture, as well as the duty of the city.

As we found out from the head of the management for municipal order in Split, Milan Amizic, the graffiti appeared during last night, and was removed today. Amizic stressed the good cooperation with the police for capturing the perpetrators of graffiti, which has led to a reduction in their number during recent months. Also, he also stressed that racist graffiti was not common in Split, and that the most common ones are nationalistic like “Serbs on Willows” (reference to hanging).

Amizic considers that the graffiti was intended to attract media attention leading up to Grant’s arrival. The author of the graffiti is currently being searched for, in order to bring them in for criminal processing, confirmed the Split-Dalmatia county police department spokesperson, Marina Kraljevic Gudelj.

“Currently there are intensive measures of searching for them, and when they find them and question them, the public will be informed about it” said Gudelj.

Even though the fans of Torcida have distanced themselves from the graffiti, Ivo Goldstein thinks that it shows the existence of anti-Semitism, and he links it with the football club Hajduk.

“Unfortunately this event shows that there is anti-Semitism in Croatia, and that it appears at the margins of social life. I am even more convinced of this considering the fact that most of Split’s citizens are anti-fascist orientated. This is why this pigsty needs to be viewed in the context of suits in and around Hajduk” concluded Ivo Goldstein.

The Israeli coach that caused a stir even before his arrival, was scheduled to land in Split today, to continue his negotiations about sitting at the head of the football club Hajduk. However, he delayed his visit for next week.

That is my city!!

ANTI-NATO PROTEST Let Protesters Make Their Own Anti-NATO Tram Activists of the anti-NATO initiative stuck posters all over Zagreb’s NATO tram, protesting Croatia joining the organisation

ZAGREB, CROATIA – After a NATO tram began running in the streets of Zagreb, anti-NATO activists had something to say about that. The Activists of the Anti-Imperialist Action, Red Action and Croatian Anti-Globalist Movement stuck posters all over the tram, warning of the consequences of NATO’s war of terrorism that claims the lives of innocent children. The action of redesigning the NATO tram was done under the initiative called “Do you want Croatia to take part in killing children?”.

- We consider the Christmas holidays a time of peace, love, tolerance and solidarity, so we believe promoting a militarist organisation is unacceptable – the anti-NATO initiative said. They stressed that they condemn “cheap advertising and imposing of something whose existence is morally questionable as benefiting the general society”.

- Croatia is calling for peace, the preservation of human rights and the environment in which we live and we again remind that NATO does not care for any of these values – they said.

As a sign of support of Croatia’s joining NATO, Zagreb’s Homeland War soldiers associations decorated a Zagreb tram with NATO signs, flags of all member-countries and symbols of Zagreb’s Homeland War soldiers’ associations.

- We harshly denounce what they have done. The NATO tram was an action by 40 Homeland War soldiers’ associations and are a sign of support of Croatia joining NATO, which is Croatia’s strategic interest. I see no logic in what they did. They should make their own anti-NATo tram – a representative of the associations, Mirko Ljubicic Sveps, said.

He added that all relevant political parties endorsed Croatia’s joining the Alliance, as do 90 percent of Croatian Homeland War soldiers. He is revolted by the fact that the protesters destroyed three months of work on the tram.

SLAUGHTER Shocking Testimony by Travica About Slaughter Determined to kill and burn all Croatians in their village, Travica and two friends killed the four member family Cengic.

“After I found out that our three Serbs from the Ervenik village had been killed, I headed towards by best friend Slobodan Kovacevic called Cipe, with the intention of informing him about what happened to our three boys. In accordance to the earlier oath we gave each other, that if anything happed to even one citizen of Serbian nationality, we would exile and burn all Croatians from our village”. These are the words that were used by Damir Travica (51) to testify to the “organ of protection of the military post code 7280 Knin” on February 13, 1992. Travica is scheduled to be extradited to Croatia from Great Britain, more precisely to the Sibenik County Court for war crimes. He spoke in detail of the way that he killed the members of the Cengic family, which is why he will soon be tried by the Sibenik court.

Travica described the horror that he committed on January 18, 1992 to the Cengic family to the first class captain Dragomir Pecanic. A copy of the testimony, which filled seven pages of dense text, was found after Operation “Storm” in an archive located in Knin’s old hospital. Travica gave the testimony from 6:30pm to half past midnight that night. He talked about his comrade agreement to kill members of one family, his neighbours, in great detail as if he were writing a novel, so he even mentioned which weapons they were carrying, how they were dressed, and even bragged to the military prosecutor that he placed a piece of black women’s lace pantyhose into his pocket, that he used in “previous operations” to hide his face.

“Sawn off”, rifle, pistol, dynamite…

He embarked on his slaughter of a couple with two underage children, a primary school child and a four year old boy. He brought his “sawn off” shortened shotgun which he used to kill rabbits, his “Crvena Zastava” pistol, some TNT, a Zolja rocket launcher, and a M-76 sniper rifle that he was given in his unit. Kovacevic and Nebojsa Travica called Nebesilo that joined them in the mean time, and headed to the village Cengici, as he says, to burn Croatians’ houses and kill them – I am not certain if the door was opened by Drago Cengic or his wife Nevenka, and it is possible that Slobodan forcibly opened the door, but immediately after that I heard Slobodan yell at the top of his lungs: “Will Ustashas return, I f*** your mother”. “Immediately after that I heard two or three short bursts from an automatic weapon, and then I saw Drago Cengic who was in the half-sitting position, leaning against the bed whilst blood flowed from his neck and chest. It seems that he was not giving any signs of life. On his left was most probably his older son with his head on Drago’s chest, who was also not showing life signs. Nevenka was in front of me in the half-standing position, holding her younger son in her arms, both were bleeding but still alive” said Travica in his testimony.

Even though the head of the family and child were not moving, Travica used his shortened shotgun to fire two shots from a few meters distance, one shot in each body, and then turned the barrel towards his wife Nevenka and the younger child. The poor woman was standing on her feet, said Travica, and the head of the child was where he fired the second shot, and I remember this well because I nearly hit comrade Slobodan. Then Slobodan went up to Nevenka and grabbed her hair with his left hand, holding a knife in the other and placing it under her throat, and said: “I f*** your Ustasha mother, will the Ustashas return, now I will slaughter you”. Nevenka was choking, and Slobodan lifted her up still holding the knife to her throat, and kept threatening her and swearing.

Brutal coldness

Then he used his lighter to light the coach cover and a tablecloth that he used to spread the fire in order to burn the home of the killed family. Travica remembers what Slobodan said after Travica told them to leave, he said that he would “slaughter a bit more” referring to Nevenka. They did not have enough killing, so upon leaving the burning house they shot at the family dog. Because the choking and sobbing of the poor woman could still be heard, Travica ordered his companion Slobodan to return and, as he said, finish the job and finish her. Whilst he was walking away he still heard sobbing, and then automatic weapon fire, which was followed by deadly silence. Leaving the scene of the crime, the slaughterers bragged to each other showing their knives and gesturing how they slaughtered Nevenka Cengic.

They continued to brag and headed towards to village Djakulovici in order to continue their crimes against the Djakulovic family where they burned hay, and then houses. Whilst Travica was burning hay, he heard a strong detonation. It was a “Zolja” that Slobodan fired, hoping that, as he said, that he hit the living area when the family slept. This is where they stopped planning where to go next, and agreed that they will move sequentially, and came across one more group of revenge seekers that were plundering on Croatian homes. They continued by burning the house of Josip Cengic in the neighbourhood, and this is how they ended their bloody mission. When they returned home, Travica says that he started thinking of removing the evidence, to get rid of the incriminating shotgun, and similar.

During questioning, Travica was shown some of the weapons that he recognized to be used in the slaughter, amongst other things his favourite “sawn off” shotgun that he used to shoot all four killed members of the Cengic family. Out of all of the evidence that is of immeasurable importance to the Croatian prosecution, which certainly the military service of the so called Serbian Krajina did not even dream would ever fall into Croatian hands, it seems that Travica quite contently explained the terrible events, remembering each detail of the terrible night. He nearly bragged as if he was remembering the plot of some film, and not a monstrous premeditated multiple homicide in which he participated in and led, by shooting, slaughtering and burning.

GRIZOGONO LETTER

Source: Letter written by Privislav Grizogono, a Croat and a Roman Catholic, member of the Yugoslav Diplomatic Corps, Minister to Czechoslovakia, Minister to Poland, addressed to Dr. Aloisius Ste- pinac, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Zagreb, Croatia, February 8, 1942. Published in translation by the American Srbobran, a Serbian paper of Pittsburgh, Pa., U.S.A., February 24, 1943:

"These atrocities do not amount to killings alone. They aim at extermination of everything Serbian: women, children, and aged men, and in terribly wild tortures of the victims. These innocent Serbs were stuck on poles alive, and fires were built on their bare chests. Literally they were roasted alive, burned to death in their homes and churches. Boiling water was poured on live victims before mutilation; their flesh was salted. Eyes were dug out of live victims, ears amputated, noses and tongues lobbed off. The beards and mustaches of priests, together with their skin, were ripped off rudely by knives. They were tied to trucks and dragged behind them. The arms and legs of the victims were broken and their heads were spiked.

"They were thrown into the deep cisterns and caves, then literally bombed to pieces. Crowbars smashed their heads. Their children were thrown into fire, scalding water, and fed to the fired lime furnaces. Other children were parted by their legs; their heads crushed against walls and their spines dashed against rocks. These and many other methods of torture were employed against the Serbs - tortures which normal people cannot conceive. Thousands of Serbian bodies floated down the Sava, Drava, and Danube rivers and their tributaries. Many of these bodies bore tags: 'Direction-Belgrade, to King Peter.' In one boat on the Sava there was a pile of children's heads, with a woman's head (presumably the mother of the children) labeled: "Meat for John's Market-Belgrade" (meaning meat for the Serbian market). "The case of Milenka Bozinich from Stapandza is a particularly gruesome one: they dug her unborn child out of her with a knife. Then, in Bosnia, a huge pile of roasted heads was found. Utensils full of Serbian blood were also discovered; this was the hot blood of their murdered brothers that other Serbs were forced to drink.

"Countless women, girls, and children were raped, mothers before daughters and daughters before mothers, while many women, girls, and female children were ushered off to Ustashi garrisons to be used as prostitutes. Rapes were committed even before the altars of the Orthodox Church. About 3,ooo Serbs were murdered in the Serbian Orthodox Church at Glina, and the massacre of Serbians before the altar at Kladusha with sledge hammers is something never mentioned in history....

The rest here

Gospić massacre

Things like these happened on both sides. You're biased. All you do is demonize serbs, but you don't see the pole between your eyes.

Thumbs up Croatia, EU and Culture...

Croat nationalism is standing shoulder to shoulder honoring the past and celebrating the future. I'm not a Croat, but that is clear. What does the national anthem, "Lijepa Naša'' mean? I admit I don't know a lot about the region, but I am curious about it. What's it like when you lived next to your historical and religious enemies after all the years? What is your opinion of Croatia getting into the European Union?

I'm against it personally because they will lose their cultural identity by being lumped in with the other dysfunctional multicultural countries. Hell, I'm against any European country joining it just for better trade. When in fact it's not a trade, because the countries that go into it lose more than they gain. Realistically, it is a large federal government that installs their propaganda to the states, which are the countries within.

The EU is the death of any cultural identity and I hope that no other country sees the contrary.

that is right...things happend, but you missing one realy important thing: Croatia was attacked, not Serbia, Croats was without guns, tanks, artillery, and Serbs have all...i know becouse i and all my family was in that war, we all are now war veterans...

One important thing - during war, we was using Hajduk tactic, in that tactic you fight against superior enemy, but in yours ground and one of most important rule is : capture enemys prisoners so you can trade them for yours comrades, guns, chase fire...we allways capture prisoners to trade it is stupid to kill enemy if you can trade for something....that is main rule
Second main rule is: dont kill enemy with sniper, wound him that his comrades com to help him you can wounde more of them - dead solider is nothing but 5 wunded soliders is big problem for unit, for morale and for recurces, than you can attack them, half of them will flee and those who stayed will be yours prisoners for trade

Lijepa naša it means : beautifull ours homeland - it is about beautifull high mountains, rivers, see, and gratitude for ours history and proud to be Croat.

About 70% of Croats dont want to join with EU, we see EU as next Yugoslavi, country where one nation rule to all others, where Jews leading main politic, where small and clean nations as Croatia (87%catholic, 99% white) will be multiculturised and asimmilated. Jews know that so they in last few years trying to crush ours spirit, to bribe ours goverment, to fill my land with Turks, niggers from France, Pakistani from England, Chinese from Serbia, Gypsies from Bulgaria.
Last year all ours Tv stations and newspapers are bought by Jews, so we dont watch Tv and we dont buy newspapers...all what we had now is Internet.

Becouse we are proud and recently liberated from communist Yugoslavia we see that communism is coming again and all that shit with Obama, it is sign that communism as in his true meaning (Jews: Marx and Engels) is coming, and in that organistion we wont go again.

EU will last for few decades, but i m affraid that end of EU will be destroyed in great war against small nations and big ones

SHOUTING PAROLES Police Reviewing Footage Of Thompson`s Concert The police are reviewing the material recorded during Thompson`s concert, while Damir Kajin has not filed charges over murder threats

PAZIN, CROATIA - Istria Police Public Order department chief Dalibor Gregov has notified on Monday that the video footage and photographs taken during Thompson`s Pazin concert were still being reviewed and at this point, he can only confirm that they noticed individuals and minor groups shouting paroles, but did not precise which paroles were in question.

- We will notify of possible charges when all material is reviewed – Gregov told a press conference.

He added that Croatian Member of Parliament Damir Kajin has not filed charges over death threats. As media reported, a part of the audience at Thompson`s concert in Pazin shouted : “Kill Kajin!”.

Did not take away Ustasha insignia

He dismissed claims of certain media that police officers took away Ustasha insignia from a group of young men at Ucka.

The police brought in 21-year-old M.A, from Pula, who shouted “For Home, Ready!” [cheer associated with the Ustasha movement] under the influence of alcohol and lifted his right hand in a salute.

Default Green Light for Zagreb´s Snow Queen

ZAGREB, CROATIA - Zagreb’s mayor Milan Bandic and his associates finished the inspection of the red slope on Monday, which is being prepared for the skiing races Snow Queen that starts on Sunday January 4 at 9:45am. The group that was inspecting the slope from the ski lift were: Dragutin Ziljak, Gordana Pokrajcic, Vedran Pavlek, Miha Glavic, the president of the organizational committee of the race, as well as many journalists.

Looking at the slope from the ski lift, we saw that it was totally ready for the race, and many workers on the slope are making final preparations for Sunday’s race. The grandstands and tents for VIPs and the media are ready, there is enough snow, and the red slope will be open for the citizens after the Snow Queen is over, said Dragutin Ziljak, the director of the city company Sljeme-Medvednica.

Sljeme ready for Queen

Five days before the race in the women’s slalom, the peak of the Medvenica mountain, Sljeme, is ready for the Snow Queen, reported the inspector of the international skiing organization, Gorazd Bedrac to his superiors. At a press conference that was held in the “Tomislavov Dom” building after mayor Milan Bandic and the press inspected the slope, Bedrac said that the whole slope is covered in 40 to 50 cm of snow, and that there are two points where there is only 35cm of snow, which will be additionally covered in snow by artificial snow cannons.

“Sljeme is prepared and I immediately said that from the ski lift via telephone to the directors in FIS for the women’s and men’s slalom races, said the Slovenian Bedrac. He also said that he is happy that the dream of Vedran Pavlek turned into reality, mostly thanks to mayor Milan Bandic, who is mostly to thank for the only European metropolis having a ski cup race.

After the tour in the ski lift, Milan Bandic was very happy with the gained knowledge and praised all of those who have worked for months in order to prepare the slope for the World Cup.

“I would especially like to praise Ziljak junior and senior, who are on the slopes day and night, and are talking care for everything to pass in the best order. I would not want to bypass Rena Fleis, who has not come down from Sljeme from the start of November, and all of the others who are responsible for the Snow Queen passing in the best order again. Gordana Pokrajcic, the director of the organization for managing sports objects, said that even if there was no snow, Ziljak would draw it and do anything for the snow queen to be held.

Vedran Pavlek informed the press that for both of the Snow Queen races, and the veterans of the ski cup race, they accredited 500 journalists, of which 200 are foreign, and that 20 countries will see a live transmission of the women’s and men’s slalom, and 50 countries will show it in a delayed recording.

Cheaper skiing for citizens

Mayor Bandic called upon all of Zagreb’s residents to turn up in large numbers at Sljeme, and said that after the World Cup skiing race, Zagreb’s residents all who wish to come, should go to Sljeme and delight in the new year’s gift.

“After the Snow Queen, all who come to ski on Sljeme will pay 30% less for all daily tickets for Sljeme. That is a new year’s gift to our fellow citizens, so that more will be able to afford skiing on Sljeme” said Milan Bandic.

Take a look at photographs from the red slope in the photo gallery: Zagreb’s Sljeme is Ready for Snow Queen.
