Ex-Olympian gets 21 years in park rapes BY SCOTT SHIFREL DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Wednesday, August 6th 2008, 8:06 PM A one-time Olympic sprinter who got hooked on drugs pleaded guilty to rape in exchange for a 21-year prison sentence Wednesday. Alvin Henry, 31, charged as the "lover's lane rapist" for attacking a series of women in several Brooklyn and Queens parks, admitted raping a 34-year-old woman in Prospect Park on June 15, 2007. He had also secretly recorded a woman having sex in the park with her boyfriend, trailed her home and threatened to blackmail her with the video unless she had sex with him, prosecutors have said. The sentence for Henry, who was part of Trinidad and Tobago's 2000 Olympic team in Sydney, will run concurrently with the 20 years he got on July 14 as part of a similar plea deal in Queens, Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Guy Mangano ordered - over the objections of prosecutor Kevin O'Donnell. "I guess it's ironic that this happens right as the Olympics opens," defense lawyer Leon Schrage said. "He was training and someone introduced him to cocaine to give him some sort of edge. But he got caught up in a lot of different things after that." |
