"Crowd surfing" possibly behind Akon incident




It still isn't clear whether singer Akon gave a fan a friendly nudge or hefty push Sunday afternoon at KFEST in Fishkill, but a concert promoter said today that it likely "wasn't a big deal."

"My guess is it was an attempt at crowd surfing," said Jason Finkelberg, general manager for Pamal Broadcasting in the Hudson Valley, which staged the concert at Dutchess Stadium. "It goes on at these shows all the time. We certainly don't condone it, but it certainly goes on."

This is ridiculous; Akon had given a great performance. I came because of Akon and enjoyed the show immensely for his being there.

I want to thank Akon for coming to our neck of the world. He probably will never come back again due to this attack on him.

This kid threw an object at akon hitting him in the face and Akon made a point that that is not the right way to be. I am also glad the kid got kicked out of the show. If it were one of my own kids they would have been thrown out of the concert and then punished by me for doing such an outrageous stunt. Akon did not try to hurt him or be mean, just a point to stop acting like this. I am glad security followed suit by kicking him out. I wanted to know if he was kicked out.

Akon charged in Hudson Valley fan-tossing incident


FISHKILL, New York (AP) -- Police have filed several charges against hip-hop star Akon for tossing a teenager off the stage onto another spectator who said she suffered a concussion as a result.

The charges stem from an incident June 3 at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) north of New York City. Audience members said a spectator lobbed something at Akon and the singer asked the crowd to point out the culprit. A security guard picked out a 15-year-old and sent him up to the stage, where Akon hoisted him onto his shoulders and flung him into the crowd.

The boy landed on Abby Rosa, who told the Poughkeepsie Journal she was later diagnosed with a concussion. She said she has hired a lawyer and spoke to Fishkill police about the incident.
