Time to Wake Up About Fluoride

On June 17, 2009, Paul Connett, PhD, Executive Director, Fluoride Action Network, will be speaking at South Secondary School about the very real concerns regarding artificial water fluoridation.

In 2006, the US National Research Council (NRC) published a comprehensive review of recent fluoride studies. “The crucial message of this report is that the highest scientific authority in the US has determined that low levels of fluoride in drinking water may have serious adverse health effects,” says Dr. Paul Connett.

Research cited in this report has linked fluoride exposure to disruption of the nervous and endocrine systems, including the brain, thyroid and pineal gland. Fluoride over-exposure has been identified as a contributor to many other health problems such as, cancer, arthritis, dementia, diabetes, colic in babies and irritable bowel syndrome.

Because the quantity of water consumed by individuals cannot be controlled, the dose of fluoride is also not controlled when it is delivered via drinking water. Most individuals are unaware of the many sources of fluoride, including processed food and beverages using fluoridated water, pesticide residues and polluted air. Susceptible groups may be consuming up to 10 times the so-called “safe” dose from drinking water alone.
New research from members of the Canadian Public Health Service (CPHS) demonstrates that artificial water fluoridation does not prevent cavities. This research from CPHS reveals that 1) artificial water fluoridation is a significant waste of taxpayers' money; 2) every dollar spent on artificial water fluoridation contributes to environmental degradation of source water and the degradation of our health.
Under a new European Court Justice ruling fluoridated water must undergo proper pharmaceutical scrutiny and be regulated as a drug.
A growing number of organizations such as the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE), Great Lakes United, Environmental Protection Agency unions and professionals worldwide are calling for an end to artificial drinking water fluoridation.
A recent statement by CAPE states: “On the basis of this “weight of evidence” we believe that fluoridation of drinking water is scientifically untenable, and should not be part of a public health initiative or program.”

Many cities in Ontario, including London and Toronto, have identified excessive amounts of lead in their tap water. Recent research is now demonstrating that artificial water fluoridation may double the exposure to lead in two ways; directly, since lead is the second most common contaminant found in the actual chemicals used in artificial water fluoridation, and indirectly because fluoride contributes to the leaching of lead from lead pipes, soldered pipes and leaded brass.

The good news is that this environmental and public health problem is easy to solve. Just turn it off.

We should also organize some seminars to inform the public about the junk science pushed by government 'experts' trying to explain the reasons for the WTC 1, 2 and 7 collapses.
