People's Community: Volksgemeinschaft
The German National-Socialist concept of the nation state was that of a People's Community (Volksgemeinschaft.) The national community was seen primarily as an organic whole and class conflict was discouraged in place of ‘class cooperation.' The socialist Volksgemeinshaft was a utopian vision of what Germany could evolve into. A society where class divisions would no longer be an issue, but instead the recognition that each German, regardless of their station in life, be that he/she is a rocket scientist or a simple waiter, that each member of that people’s community had an important and altruistic obligation to think of the welfare of their Volk before self-interest. Only then could a new golden age arrive of a higher form of civilisation where poverty and crime would become almost non-existent.
A New Force: Nationalism And Socialism Merged Into A Unified One.
-Speech by Adolf Hitler, 1940
Hitler And The Socialist Dream
"The programme was nothing other than the programme for the establishment of the new German Volkreichs. It were the theses of the national uprising and the basic insight that lay in these theses was that of the two most elementary forces of the time, nationalism and socialism, had to be subjected to a new definition and that from this definition the two theses had to be merged into a unified one. The two thoughts had to be transformed into a single idea and could then be carriers of a new force. A force that could one day make the Reich great, free and powerful again."
New Economic System
Adolf Hitler created a new economic model which allowed for private property and businesses to thrive, but at the same time solved the problem of wealth inequality and poverty. He liberated German workers from the rule of capital over labour as found in the capitalist system, with the rule of labour over capital. In the National-Socialist economic system, capital served the people, and not the other way around. Thus usury, stock exchange trading and other parasitic profiteering was firmly routed from all German economic life.
In NS Germany women did not have to juggle full-time employment while raising a busy family like in today’s dysfunctional society of broken families and home alone children. The economy was prosperous enough to allow fathers to work while mothers looked after the families. Women worked in NS Germany, but those with children were encouraged to prioritize and put their families first.
Why the Name “National Socialists”?
“You cannot be a true nationalist without also being a socialist; you others cannot be true socialists without also being nationalists.
To be a nationalist means loving ones own people more than all others, and worker to be sure that it can hold its own among them. If this people to hold its own against the rest of the world, I must wish and work for the health of each member, to see that things go as well as possible for each individual, and therefore the whole. But then I am a socialist!
And I cannot be a socialist without working to be sure that my people can defend itself from attacks by other peoples, and to secure its foundations for life, without working for the greatness of my people, thereby also being a nationalist. The strength and significance of my people is the foundation for the prosperity of the individual.
Therefore, you are National Socialists.”
“I met Hitler not in his headquarters, the Brown House in Munich, but in a private home - the dwelling of a former admiral of the German Navy. We discussed the fate of Germany over teacups.
"Why," I asked Hitler, "do you call yourself a National Socialist, since your party programme is the very antithesis of that commonly accredited to socialism?"
"Socialism," he retorted, putting down his cup of tea, pugnaciously, "is the science of dealing with the common weal. Communism is not Socialism. Marxism is not Socialism. The Marxians have stolen the term and confused its meaning. I shall take Socialism away from the Socialists.
"Socialism is an ancient Aryan, Germanic institution. Our German ancestors held certain lands in common. They cultivated the idea of the common weal. Marxism has no right to disguise itself as socialism. Socialism, unlike Marxism, does not repudiate private property. Unlike Marxism, it involves no negation of personality, and unlike Marxism, it is patriotic.
"We might have called ourselves the Liberal Party. We chose to call ourselves the National Socialists. We are not internationalists. Our socialism is national. We demand the fulfilment of the just claims of the productive classes by the state on the basis of race solidarity. To us state and race are one." [Meaning the state belongs to the people/volk, the state works for the people, it does not rule over them in the sense of being subjects]
G. S. Viereck's 1923 interview with Adolf Hitler
Centre Radical: Not Far-Left Or Far-Right
Many historians make the error of closely comparing National-Socialism to Communism in terms of economical policy, when in fact the two stand wide apart from each other. It is also interesting to note that the Communists claim National-Socialism was not socialism at all, and was in fact the purest form of Capitalism. The Soviet communists however created a false dichotomy for propagandistic reasons for the Soviet masses, and the claim that National-Socialism was the 'last bastion of Capitalism' has no basis in fact. In reality, National-Socialism was neither Capitalist nor Communist, but took natural and healthy elements from each one to form a more "centrist" style of government. The National-Socialist state allowed capitalistic principles, but not at the expense of the Volk. Businesses were allowed to make profits but those profits were capped. People were allowed to own their own homes. But they were encouraged not to own more than one property.
Otto Wagener: Two Kinds of Socialism
p. 115-116 Adolf Hitler speaking:
“… Individual striving — yes, individual acquisitiveness — is the driving force that animates the world and the economy and that has engendered all major inventions and discoveries. If we eliminate it, the drive slackens and progress stagnates. But to stand still is to regress.”
“That is why we must preserve this driving force, we must nurture it, even reward it! We must take this striving, which is in itself selfish, and place it in the service of all, in the service of the whole nation — yes, perhaps in time in the service of all mankind…”
“Communism results in a welfare state where the standards are averaged downward. We want a state that allows for free development of the personality, but in the last analysis, this must also be for the needs of the people — that is, in the service of the community, where the standard is to be raised as high as possible, and then higher yet…”
“…the closer we come to normal times, the more the shackles and restraints that hinder the free play of the natural struggle must be loosened. The state must be, not a nursemaid, but the incarnation of the ethical conscience of a people and of each individual.”
The Individual And The Collective
Man is neither hermit nor herd animal, but a little of both, because these traits are not mutually exclusive. He has individualistic traits, but he also has socialistic traits. He is both himself and part of a group. Only National-Socialism recognized this fact, whereas the capitalists would like us to believe that we are only individuals, and the communists are telling us we are only part of a greater collective. According to the ideology of National-Socialism individuality must be limited at the point where it is a detriment to the social good, and that collectivism must be limited where it begins to suffocate the creativity of the individual.
National-Socialism recognized the fact that men are born neither isolated individuals nor members of an ant colony.
The False Doctrine Of Egalitarianism
According to the doctrine of Marxism everyone is equal in worth, and each person has the innate ability to be whatever they desire to be. Be that a brain surgeon, rocket scientist, musical composer, philosopher etc. This ideal is known as egalitarianism. The doctrine that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.
While all people most certainly do deserve equal rights and opportunities to better themselves. People are not equal in ability. Some people are destined to be artists or entertainers. While others are more suited to physical work. Some people are born leaders while others are incapable of leadership. But in the Communist system, those with natural talent are hamstrung by those of mediocre ability because of the false doctrine of egalitarianism which states everyone is of equal ability.
In the National-Socialist system of government the best man, or indeed woman, for the job is the person who is the most able and gifted for that particular task.
Dr. W. Gross, writing about “The National Socialist Way of Life”
“The National Socialist Weltanschauung and its practical effect on German lifestyle is based on two supporting pillars:
“On the one hand, personality is given a chance to unfold and the individual receives an education that is nearly perfect. On the other hand, the individual is ready to contribute to the welfare of the community. These are the two poles that generate the productive potential of National Socialist Germany.”
“Developing and shaping his abilities makes the individual happy and conscious, for doing this is the prerequisite for the nation to receive his genuine efforts that are of the highest value for the community. Only these efforts for the community add meaning and ultimate nobility to the individual personality and its development. In morbid times, personality and community became opposites, but for us they are a full harmonic chord in which the individual strings of life sound together.
“…The National Socialist ideal is not a silly fashion and not a standardized type of man. On the contrary, our goal is a variety of individual personalities, all educated and trained according to their talents. Only this variety grants a harmony that elevates the individual and bestows the nation with historic power and beauty.”
Class Cooperation Not Class War
To promote better understanding between workers and employers, all labour unions were nationalised into one monolithic body, which in Germany was known as the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF). This organisation was headed by one individual known as the Arbeitsführer (Work Leader) who is, in turn, was responsible to the Führer. Any conflicts or disputes that arose between employers and workers were resolved through mediation between representatives of the DAF and the employer, by an organization set up for that purpose.
When the National-Socialists came to power the Trade Unions were infested with Bolshevik revolutionaries and the regime also wanted to promote class cooperation and not open class warfare and therefore amalgamated all Trade Unions into one.
Strength Through Joy
Hitler was the first political leader in Europe to introduce a 40-hour working week along with paid and subsidised holidays for German workers. All large German factories had swimming pools, theatres, sports and leisure facilities for their employees.
The above resort in Prora was designated for the German people as a vacation spot. One of many the regime had in mind. Unfortunately, war broke out which stalled this holiday project. But the building still stands to this very day and offers a glimpse of what might have been had Germany won the war.
“Kraft durch Freude (German for Strength through Joy, abbreviated KdF) was a large state-operated leisure organization in Nazi Germany. It was a part of the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront, DAF), the national German labour organization at that time. Set up as a tool to promote the advantages of National Socialism to the people, it soon became the world's largest tourism operator of the 1930s.
KdF was supposed to bridge the class divide by making middle-class leisure activities available to the masses. This was underscored by having cruises with passengers of mixed classes and having them, regardless of social status, draw lots for allocation of cabins.”
-Sheldon Emry, In Billions for the Bankers, Debts for the People (1984)
"Germany issued debt-free and interest-free money from 1935 on, which accounts for Germany's startling rise from the depression to a world power in five years. The German government financed its entire operations from 1935 to 1945 without gold, and without debt. It took the entire Capitalist and Communist world to destroy the German revolution, and bring Europe back under the heel of the Bankers."
- Adolf Hitler, quoted in "Hitler's Monetary System," www.rense.com, citing C. C. Veith, Citadels of Chaos (Meador, 1949)
The Spiritual Foundations of The New Europe
"We were not foolish enough to try to make a currency [backed by] gold of which we had none, but for every mark that was issued we required the equivalent of a mark's worth of work done or goods produced...
. . . .we laugh at the time our national financiers held the view that the value of a currency is regulated by the gold and securities lying in the vaults of a state bank."
Excerpt by Reich Press Chief Dr. Otto Dietrich.
“The basic element in the political concept of National Socialism is that of the national state. It has no ambition to make imperial conquests, but strives after inner collectivity and national concentration. And the clear proof of this is the unprecedented organization by National Socialism of that tremendous return migration of racial Germans, the return of German blood to the Motherland. The political conception of the national state is not directed towards a frittering away of power by outward expansion, but towards rational internal construction and the safeguarding of the national standard of existence. It has enforced the idea that relations between states can be made more permanent if the prospect of the nations is clear and determined and if leadership is responsibly and authoritatively rooted in the nation. The organization of life in our present-day Germany reflects internal national and political determination and externally also shows definite lines of conduct. The ideas and the driving force of National Socialism are directed exclusively towards peace, as long as the indispensable bases of existence and security are guaranteed to our nation of 85 millions living within the heart of Europe. National Socialist Germany has been forced to fight, because the principles of imperialism and world domination of the Anglo-Saxons negate the simplest preliminary conditions for the development of our peace-loving nation. It was for this reason that they declared war on us. Britain is conducting a war of destructive force against constructive organization in the life of nations. The fact that National Socialist Germany has proved itself to be stronger than its aggressor in a war which has been forced upon it, is no proof of the violence of its principles, but only of the strength inherent in its ideal of order. They say: “We are fighting for the democratic way of life. We are fighting for the liberty of living our lives as we wish.” But National Socialism has no intention of preventing them from doing so. It holds the opinion that every nation should live its own internal life in accordance with its own desires. The crimes they attribute to us are in reality committed by themselves. In no single country in the world does there exist such a great and disgusting intolerance of the mode of living of others as in the Anglo-Saxon countries. This intolerance is carried on hypocritically in the name of liberty, a liberty the real character of which I have already described. Our adversaries maintain that this is a war of democracy against tyranny that makes it necessary either to unmask these political play-actors or else to open the eyes of their public to their true nature.
I may be allowed here to quote a neutral scholar, who a short while ago wrote an article “Hitler and the Democracies.”
He asked the question why the Führer should be an opponent of the democracies, as he was one of the people himself and as president of the most democratic republic in the world was constantly in sincere and direct contact with the people. During his examination this scholar comes to the conclusion that only the modern democracies, France, Britain and America in particular, apparently had something in common with the will of the people. In reality it was only a pretext for party interests and the compensatory business of a few political circles among the upper classes. The mistakes of liberal democracy had already been made by its founders who had introduced into it their own material and utilitarian outlook and economic individualism. All this had been shamefully decorated by the founders of liberal democracy behind a facade of idealism. They themselves had never honestly believed in the catchwords of “Liberty,” “Equality” and “Fraternity,”
which they had invented. In these so-called Western democracies, power was not actually upheld by the people, but a few thousand capitalists. The functioning of democracy merely concealed the selfishness of a small minority living in ease and comfort. These statements hit the nail on the head. One should not always only talk of democracy, but for once answer the question: “What is ‘democracy‘? What does it actually mean?”
If democracy is no more than invisible domination by a few, achieved by means of money and the fabrication of public opinion, then our opponents are right in calling themselves democracies. But if democracy really denotes government by the people, then it is not they, but we, who are the democrats.
We attach no particular value to decorating ourselves with this word that has become so compromised on account of its political past. But if the plutocrats make use of it to camouflage their domination and to deceive the people, then it is necessary to make its meaning perfectly clear. Whoever studies the conception of the National Socialist state in its innermost structure and practical functioning is bound to recognize that it is the most modern government of the people in history.
It demonstrates the principles of responsibility and leadership in the truly national state, in opposition to the anonymous principles of degenerate democracy. It regards the will of the people not as a dead parliamentary majority to be gained by money or financial influence, but recognizes it continually in the permanent and direct alliance with the life of the people itself. The National Socialist Party is, therefore, not a party in the parliamentary sense, but simply and positively the party of the German nation. It is the great guardian of the social conscience of the nation, it holds its hand on the pulse of the people, it feels its slightest stirrings, its anxieties and its needs, its requirements and its desires, its pleasure and its pain. It is its helper and adviser and the unceasing bearer of its suggestions to the higher authorities. It has entrusted hundreds of thousands of citizens of all professions and classes with political responsibility, thereby providing tens of thousands of politically tested Germans with the opportunity of advancement to leading positions in the Reich. It has linked the perpetual stream of youth, organically and eternally, with the life of the nation and has created a system for the selection of leaders, which compels future generations to play their uninterrupted and vital part. Tangible shape is thereby given not to the will of a questionable parliamentary majority, but to the true will of the people. By its principles of training, efficiency and selection of leaders, it has given the nation a wonderfully functional system with the rhythm of strength continually renewing itself.
Nearly 2,500 years ago Plato wrote in his “Laws” that the most excellent constitution of a nation was that which was successful in persuading the masses to submit voluntary and in raising the most intelligent in their midst to leadership. The new principle of national and political leadership developed by the highly gifted leaders of Germany and Italy has made these sublime political concepts reality. When today the messiahs of democracy and the plutocrats talk contemptuously of “dictatorships,” their intellectual arrogance only conceals the stain of ignorance or the essence of hypocrisy which fears nothing so much as the realization of truth by the awakening of the nations.”
-Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
“The fundamental principle is that the State is not an end in itself but the means to an end. It is the preliminary condition under which alone a higher form of human civilization can be developed, but it is not the source of such a development. This is to be sought exclusively in the actual existence of a race which is endowed with the gift of cultural creativeness.”
The modern system of parliamentary democracy is in reality a polarisation of political consent. Political parties which fall outside that political consent are inevitably labelled extremist or worse, and prevented from gaining political power by repressive laws. Political parties are banned and prominent activists jailed in so-called democratic countries.
In reality the system of democracy practiced here in the West is an oligarchy aligned to world plutocracy. It is anything but democratic and exists to protect the interests of the elite by creating an illusionary system of free and democratic elections.
Adolf Hitler Explains Plutocratic Democracy
The Volksgemeinschaft was an organic system of top-down government, where advice travelled upward, and decisions travelled downward. Leaders were chosen on individual merit alone, and not because of their status, their family background, or how much money the individual had. Ordinary people showing potential for leadership were educated at special Adolf Hitler schools. The government of National-Socialist Germany brought in many thousands of ordinary people into positions of government. Ultimately the folk in NS Germany commanded the state and not the other way around. The state was simply a means to an end and not an end in itself. This system of government is called folk-democracy and is a true form of meritocracy. Not Fascist dictatorship or tyranny. Elections were occasionally held in the form of plebiscites for all key laws in the Reich, the states and provinces.
1935 Saarland Plebiscite Returns Region to Germany
“On National-Socialist Germany And Her Contribution Towards Peace.” Speech to the representatives of the international press at Geneva on September 28. 1933. German League of Nations Union News Service, PRO, FO 371/16728
The nation and the government in Germany are one thing. The will of the people is the will of the government and vice versa. The modern structure of the German State is a higher form of democracy in which, by virtue of the people’s mandate, the government is exercised authoritatively while there is no possibility for parliamentary interference, to obliterate and render ineffective the execution of the nation’s will.
On National-Socialism, Bolshevism & Democracy (September 10, 1938)
We have modernized and ennobled the concept of democracy. With us it means definitely the rule of the people, in accordance with its origin.
Hitler wanted to create a socialism of nations
with National-Socialist Germany as the sole protector and guarantor of free and independent socialist nations in the world.
The Socialism of nations could only have come about two ways:
1. All nations voluntarily submit and join the socialism of nations through internal National-Socialist revolution in each nation.
2. A war of liberation against Capitalism and Communism by a National-Socialist nation in order to bring into existence, guarantee and then secure the socialism of all free and independent nations.
Socialism Of The Nations: p. 165-174
“There also exists a constructive international socialist idea. But it is altogether different. For, look here, once nations have begun to carry out a socialist and socio-economic reorganization within their own borders, the time is ripe for the totality of nations — that is, all the peoples and states — to give up fighting each other for power and supremacy, enslavement and exploitation, according to liberal principles (CAPITALIST IMPERIALISM) — that is, acting according to imperialist principles. Then, even among them the time has come for giving consideration to pride of place, communal spirit, even ‘socialism.’ What first occurred on a small scale within the individual nations will then take place among the worldwide community of nations. Even the smallest of them will enjoy equal rights…
That is socialism of the nations! But it is quite different from the international socialism of a Marx or a Lenin!"
“If, for example, acting out of a higher discernment, industrial plants decide not to compete with each other, establishing instead a community of interests, each enterprise remains independent in itself. The only change is that each will be integrated into the totality according to a higher plan, taking into account considerations of production and market conditions and according to principles of reason and profitability. So each must give up something of its sovereignty, in the interest of the whole — but consequently also in its own best interest.
It is equally true within a nation that each individual citizen must surrender something of his own sovereignty — what is colloquially spoken of as ‘personal liberty’ –to the organization of self-administration, the state. All rights originate primarily with the people… The Volk, each separate person, however, yields as much as necessary — but not more than necessary — to the state it has created or the government it has established according to its constitution.
“The same thing will happen with the socialism of nations. Each nation remains independent. It yields to the community, to the organization of self-administration, to the world state only as much of its sovereignty as is necessary to enable the execution of the tasks that are in the interest of all and each separately.”
So each must give up something of its sovereignty, in the interest of the whole — but consequently also in its own best interest.
The international powers that are at work to penetrate the unanimity of the national bodies, the states, the nations, to dissolve and undermine them, are therefore contrary to Nature and hostile to the divine order.
“But here, too, I carry within me the conviction — and I see myself as a trailblazer — that humanity will find the right way. For the peoples and their states are natural creations, divinely ordained, they are associations of men, all of whom are created by God and therefore stand side by side, with equal rights, judged only for the totality, each according to his abilities and achievements for the totality. The international powers that are at work to penetrate the unanimity of the national bodies, the states, the nations, to dissolve and undermine them, are therefore contrary to Nature and hostile to the divine order. Among them are primarily Jews, but next in line are the Catholic church, the internationally oriented trade unions, international communism, the major international trusts [corporations and banking], and many more. Such organizations can, at times, be stronger than the states! And herein lies their danger! Not only for the individual state, but especially for the possibility of creating the great socialist community of nations.
“So, if we pursue the goal of such a community of nations — and it must, as I said, be pursued, and it will be the final goal of human politics on this earth — then we must first reconstruct the independence and autonomy of the nations, even the smallest, and drive the large international organizations back to their purely technical sphere of operations, eliminating every last possibility of their influence on governments and governmental organizations. This is a further basic perception.
“Furthermore, the principle in power politics of always oppressing smaller nations, annexing them, occupying them, dissolving their statehood, divesting them of their autonomy, their divinely ordained sovereignty — this is a useless and foolish undertaking, a sin against Nature… Yes, one can say that the suppression of a people, the forced incorporation in artificial borders, or military occupation of a particular country only heighten the will to freedom and the urge to liberation of the people in question!
“Even if one expels the members of a Volk from a country or scatters them all over the world, the Volk does not cease to exist. Even after generations, it continues to harbor the longing for the native soil from which it was driven or the yearning for reunification…
“The application of this realization is a further great task of the future. Here lie the roots of true religion, the link to divinity! There are those poor creatures, bending their knees and wringing their praying hands before carved wooden figures, and those great hypocrites hoodwink them into believing that, thanks to this behavior, their souls will sizzle a few days less in the fires of hell. But the true link to God, the elevated consciousness of being a divine creature — that is driven out of them and forbidden them! Here is where I see the A6yo£ of St. John, which Luther unfortunately translated as ‘word.’ Goethe tried to rectify the error with the critical lines: ‘I cannot possibly place such a high value on the word, I must translate it differently,’ and he said: ‘In the beginning was the deed.’ But I say: ‘In the beginning was the urge!’ And the urge existed from eternity! And the urge was a creation of God, and God himself was this urge. And the urge was the spark of life, which resides in us as well.
The pacifist-humanitarian idea may indeed become an excellent one when the most superior type of manhood will have succeeded in subjugating the world to such an extent that this type is then sole master of the earth. This idea could have an injurious effect only in the measure in which its application became difficult and finally impossible.
So, first of all, the fight, and then pacifism. If it were otherwise, it would mean that mankind has already passed the zenith of its development, and accordingly, the end would not be the supremacy of some moral ideal, but degeneration into barbarism and consequent chaos.
Implicit in Hitler's comment in Mein Kampf is that he envisions a New World Order of development and cooperation between all nations without resorting to war over resources. This passage is fully congruent with the socialism of nations written by Hitler's former comrade Otto Wagener.
“Always struggle is a means to improve the health and stamina of the species, and thus a cause of its evolution. By any other process all development and evolution would cease, and the very reverse would take place.”
(Mein Kampf p. 278)
In Mein Kampf Hitler explained how Nature weeds out the weak and the sick for the greater good, and how natural forces produce cycles of evolution and involution, and how our existence as human beings is owed to these same primal laws of Nature which mankind cannot escape from.
In today’s modern society the majority of adults are encouraged to procreate regardless of their genetic health, and the overwhelming majority of the second generation babies survive and make it to adulthood due to modern advances in medical and social care. They in turn procreate and produce another full crop of third generation babies. Thus resulting in a violation of the laws of natural selection.
This dysgenic decline is evident by the increase of new born babies afflicted with genetic illnesses, and the ever increasing numbers of adults whose ignoble character traits and associated amoral, asocial and criminal behaviour is indicative of bad breeding.
Generation after generation humans have become increasingly sick with genetic illnesses and if this dysgenic timebomb is not arrested and reversed it will mean the number of unproductive humans will eventually overtake healthy humans culminating in the collapse of civilisation due to society being burdened with people incapable of looking after themselves due to infirmity and mental retardation.
According to a report in the March of Dimes
, every year, about 8 million babies worldwide are born with gene-related birth defects. That figure amounts to 6% of all global births in a given year. This number will increase generation after generation until sanity prevails, or the heavy tax burden in looking after those with disabling conditions reaches a critical threshold.
The NSDAP introduced An Act for the Prevention of Hereditarily Diseased Offspring. The grounds for sterilization included:
(1) Congenital Mental Deficiency;
(2) Schizophrenia, or split personality;
(3) ManicDepressive Insanity;
(4) Inherited Epilepsy;
(5) Inherited (Huntington‟s) Chorea;
(6) Inherited Blindness;
(7) Inherited Deafness;
(8) Any grave physical defect that has been inherited;
(9) Chronic alcoholism, when this has been scientifically determined to be symptomatic of psychological abnormality.
All of these defects and diseases have been proven to be hereditary. It was estimated that at least 400,000 persons in Germany were sterilised. But the law specifically forbid sterilization for any non-hereditary cause. Even mentally diseased persons, habitual criminals, and ordinary alcoholics could not be sterilised. Each case up for sterilisation had to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt before special district courts, and appeals from their verdict could be taken, first to a regional court of appeals, and ultimately to the High Appellate Court sitting in Berlin. Such were the provisions of the Sterilization Law.
When the National-Socialists came to power, Germany was biologically in a bad way. Much of her best stock had perished on the battlefields of the Great War. But those war losses were surpassed by others during the post-war period. Economic depression, hyperinflation, mass-unemployment, hopelessness for the future, had combined to produce a state of mind in which Germans were refusing to have children. The birth-rate dropped so fast that the nation was no longer reproducing itself.
In 1933, the year when the National-Socialists came to power, only 957,000 children were born—far below the reproductive rate for the nation.
The very next year births had shot up to 1,197,000, and they increased steadily until, when the war broke out, they were running about 1,300,000 annually.
The NSDAP had a two-fold task.
1. Increase the birth rate by offering financial incentives for German couples to have more babies. The NSDAP introduced the Law for the Promotion of Marriages. A l,000-Mark Government loan,
25 per cent of which was cancelled on the birth of each child born to them. These loans were made to young couples, not in cash, but in the form of certificates for household goods. A newly wed couple was able to furnish their home with such loans. Couples who had four or more children did not have to pay the loan back.
2. Prevent Germans with hereditary diseases from passing their genes on to the next generation of Germans. Thus sparing future generations of being afflicted with serious gene-related birth defects and associated dysgenic traits.
“It must proclaim the truth that the child is the most valuable possession a nation can have. It must make sure that only those who are healthy shall beget children and that there is only one infamy: namely, for parents who are ill or show other defects to bring children into the world. But on the other hand it must be branded as reprehensible to refrain from giving healthy children to the nation. Herein the State must come forward as the trustee of a millennial future, in face of which the egotistic desires of individuals count for nothing. Such individuals will have to bow to the State in such matters. “In order to achieve this end the State will have to avail itself of modern advances in medical science. It must proclaim that all those people are unfit for procreation who are afflicted with some visible hereditary disease, or are the carriers of it; and the State must adopt practical means of having such people rendered sterile. On the other hand the State must make sure that the healthy woman will not have her fertility restricted through a financial and economic system of government which looks on the blessing of children as a curse to their parents. The State will have to abolish the cowardly and even criminal indifference with which the problem of social provision for large families is treated, and it will have to be the supreme protector of this greatest blessing that a people can boast of. Its attention and care must be directed towards the child rather than towards the adult.”
-Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
The Handling of Racial Differences within a Volk Community
“If… we examine the advantages and disadvantages of keeping the races and tribes apart in our German fatherland, we can see nothing but disadvantages!
The German Volk would only be more splintered,
set against one another, atomized by stirring up the racial problems; so it would be rendered insignificant as far as foreign policy goes. That is why I have forbidden more than once — and at the next Gauleiter conference I shall unequivocally repeat my prohibition against — any talk or writing about racial theory and the racial problem. We must do precisely the opposite! The community of the Volk, the community of the Volk, the community of the Volk — that must be our battle cry! Everything that unites and allies the strata must be brought out, cultivated, and promoted, and everything that separates them, everything that serves to awaken the old prejudices must be avoided, fought against, removed… Like Christ, we must preach, ‘You are all brothers! Love one another!’
“Only we alone can and must think clearly about racial questions. You, and I, and Rosenberg, and one or two others. For to us, these questions are a key and a signpost. But for the public at large, they are poison! Besides, such discussion would only rouse superiority and inferiority complexes. And these are the surest way to destroy a Volk community.
“Much as I gaze in awe at the Jews’ laws for maintaining and preserving the purity of their race, I must nevertheless proceed from my belief that racial theories, should they become the subject of public discussion, may prove a national disaster rather than a blessing.
“We must accept the mixing of blood as it is. We must not call one blood worse than another, one mixture better than another. Rather, we must employ other means to breed a higher form from this gray mass.
We must try to bring to the surface the valuable traits of the people living in Germany, to cultivate and to develop them, and we must find ways and means to prevent the propagation of all the bad, inferior, criminal, and decadent tendencies and all the congenital diseases so damaging to the Volk.
“Furthermore, we must educate the young people in the beauty of movement, the beauty of the body, and the beauty of the spirit. Athletics, personal grooming, physical training, public performances of competitive games and contests, and a revival of the performing arts along the old Greek models will contribute to making a girl see how the man who is worthy of her should look and appear, as well as letting a boy know what his ideal woman is like..
“And such selective breeding will become all the more a matter of course the more we bring the German Volk together and weld it into one. In their earliest childhood, in kindergarten, in elementary school, in the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls, all classes must meet. No distinction should be allowed to be made between the rich and the poor, between high and low, between city and country, between employer and employee; rather, there is only the distinction between respectable and disreputable, between companionable and uncompanionable, between above board and furtive, between truth and lies, between courage and cowardice, and between health and sickness.
“Then, when these children grow up, they will use their feet to cast aside all this party rubbish, and in every district they will elect the man, the only one, who represents them and goes to the Reichstag on their behalf. Only then will we see true democracy!
And it is ridiculous to think that among these elected candidates there would be even a single one who is not a genuine paragon and prototypical representative of the German spirit, a German person — representative, in short, of this German Volk that from generation to generation rises ever higher from the oozing slime in which Europe, in which the Old World is still wading.”
Suddenly, his voice somewhat subdued, Hitler said:
“Sometimes I have the feeling that it is not granted us to experience this great future, that only a coming generation will be mature enough to translate our ideas and plans into action. But it is our mission to bring about the basis for such a community of the Volk, and especially to guide the young people of Germany along the paths that lead to this goal…”
Adolf Hitler Speech to the German Youth, Nuremberg 1934
Hitler Youth Leader, Baldur von Schirach
Adolf Hitler speaks
My Fuhrer, My comrades!
Again we experience this time
which makes up proud and happy.
Under your orders my Fuhrer,
our youth stands here before you.
A youth that knows no classes or castes.
You are the true example for our younger generation.
As you selflessly worked for this nation,
so this youth wants to be selfless.
As you are loyal to us,
so we will be loyal to you.
Adolf Hitler, the leader of the German youth, has the floor!
We want to be one nation, and you, my youth, shall now
become this nation. We do not want to see class and status
differences anymore, and so you must not allow yourselves
to nurture attitudes that promote them. We want to see one
Reich, and you must even now train yourselves for this in
one organization. We want our folk to be loyal, and you
must learn this loyalty. We want our folk to be obedient,
and you must practice obedience. We want our folk to be
peace loving, but also brave. Yet ever ready for peace.

Hitler Youth Pamphlet, Faith and Action
Race means to be able to think in a certain way. He who has courage, loyalty and honor, the mark of the German, has the race that should rule in Germany, even if he does not have the physical characteristics of the “Nordic” race.
The unity of the noble and a noble body is the goal to which we strive. But we despise those whose noble body carries an ignoble soul.
A variety of related European races have merged in Germany. One trunk grew from these roots. Each race gave its best strength. Each contributed to the German soul We Germans have a fighting spirit, a look to the horizon, the “desire to do a thing for its own sake” of the Nordic race. Another racial soul gave us our cozy old cities and our depth. Yet another racial soul gave us mastery of the magical realm of music. Yet another gave us our ability to organize, and our silent obedience.
We can not hold it against anyone if he carries a variety of racial lines, for the German soul does as well,
and created out of it the immeasurable riches which it possesses above all other nations. The greatness of our Reich grew out of this soul.
But the Nordic race must dominate in Germany and shape the soul of each German. It must win out in the breast of each individual. Today our ideal is not the artist or the citizen, but the hero.
A People (Volk)
A people grows from God’s will. Woe to him who wishes to destroy the peoples and make people alike. God created the trees, the bushes, the weeds and the grass not so that they could merge into one species, but that each should exist in its own way. Just as a tree, a people grows as a living whole from similar roots, but becoming one, the strongest of its kind.
All of the same blood belong to it. A people knows no state boundaries. It is bound by the ties of blood that bind all the sons of a single mother. The German people is a nation of a hundred million. Each German belongs to it, no matter where he may live.
A people cannot be destroyed as long as its roots draw on the strength of the earth. Summer and winter may come and go. But it always blooms anew in indestructible life and perfects itself in the strength that rises from its roots towards God’s will.
What does it mean when an individual dies? It is as if the wind blows leaves from a tree. New ones grow eternally every spring. The peoples are the greatest and most noble creation of God on this earth. There is no institution in the world, no party and no church, that has the right to make them the same or to rob them of even the tiniest bit of their individuality.

“Although it has features similar to a human, the subhuman is lower on the spiritual and psychological scale than any animal.” -NSDAP Pamphlet Poster 1942
Der Untermensch: A Dysgenic, Not Ethnic, Concept
Untermensch was a term used to describe the Bolshevik hordes, shown in the example above in the NSDAP propaganda poster. It was also used to describe people of ignoble character traits whose behaviour was asocial and a detriment to the common good. It was not a term used to describe other races, including Jews, as sub-humans, with Germans as the Master Race. Indeed, NS Germany never used the term Master Race which is a fiction invented by the allies as war propaganda:
“I can only say that if I had spread the kind of propaganda in my radio talks of which the Prosecution now accuses me; if I had advocated the doctrine of the Master Race; if I had preached hatred against other nations; if I had incited people to wars of aggression, acts of violence, murder, and inhumanity; if I had done all that--then, Gentlemen of the Tribunal, the German nation would have turned from me and would have repudiated the system for which I spoke.
Even if I had done this only in disguised form, my listeners would have noticed it and repudiated it.”
-Defendant Hans Fritzsche Nuremberg Trial
General Otto Remer Interview, Conducted by Stephanie Schoeman, for Institute for Historical Review:
Q: Is it true that the Germans referred to the Russians as "subhumans"?
A: Nonsense! The Russians are human beings just like everyone else.
Your question, whether we called the Russians "subhumans," is nonsense. We had a first-class relationship with the Russian people. The only exception, which was a problem we dealt with, was with the Soviet Commissars, who were all Jews. These people stood behind the lines with machine guns, pushing the Russian soldiers into battle. And anyway, we made quick work of them. That was according to order. This was during a war for basic existence, an ideological war, when such a policy is simply taken for granted.
There was sometimes talk about the so-called Asian hordes, and ordinary soldiers sometimes spoke about subhumans, but such language was never officially used.
In his speech " Weltgefahr des Bolschewismus " ("World danger of Bolshevism") in 1936, Joseph Goebbels said that "subhumans exist in every people as a leavening agent ".
Josef Goebbels threatened to resign from his position as Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda over his love affair with the Czech actress Lída Baarová who was a racial Slav.
Epic: The Story of the Waffen SS
German racialism has been deliberately distorted. It never was an anti-"other race" racialism. It was a pro-German racialism. It was concerned with making the German race strong and healthy in every way. Hitler was not interested in having millions of degenerates, if it was in his power not to have them. Today one finds rampant alcohol and drug addiction everywhere. Hitler cared that the German families be healthy, cared that they raise healthy children for the renewal of a healthy nation. German racialism meant re-discovering the creative values of their own race, re-discovering their culture. It was a search for excellence, a noble idea. National Socialist racialism was not against the other races, it was for its own race. It aimed at defending and improving its race, and wished that all other races did the same for themselves. (Socialism of the nations).

Did Hitler shake hands with black 1936 Olympic hero Jesse Owens?
W. E. B. Du Bois said blacks were treated better in Nazi Germany than America
Owens, who felt the newspapers of the day reported 'unfairly' on Hitler's attitude towards him, tried to get Mischner and his journalist colleagues to change the accepted version of history in the 1960s.
Mischner claimed Owens showed him the photograph and told him: 'That was one of my most beautiful moments.'
Mischner said: 'It was taken behind the honour stand and so not captured by the world's press. But I saw it, I saw him shaking Hitler's hand.
'The predominating opinion in post-war Germany was that Hitler had ignored Owens.
'We therefore decided not to report on the photo. The consensus was that Hitler had to continue to be painted in a bad light in relation to Owens.'
The treatment of the negro shows, as Dr. DuBois expressed, “not a trace at all of racial hatred” and the attitude of the German Press, during the Olympic Games, was completely fair, even friendly to the towards the colored athletes. But Dr. DuBois can “simply not understand” the attitude towards the Jews. The situation with the Jews is, as he said, very regrettable, but it cannot be compared with the situation of the Negros in the United States.
He was himself received in a very friendly manner and did not suffer from any racial prejudice at all.
Dr. DuBois was welcomed in Germany and greeted by Rudolf Hess. Dr. DuBois believed in race betterment for American blacks through positive eugenics and was quite supportive of Hitler's social welfare programs.
He won a fellowship to attend Berlin university in 1892 and was the founder of the civil rights group, NAACP. Ironically, he was later expelled from the NAACP for holding 'extremist' views.
"I swear by God this holy oath that I will obey the leader of the German race and state, Adolf Hitler, as the commander of the German armed forces in the fight for India, whose leader is Subhas Chandra Bose."
