The
Library of Alexandria wasn't built by Egyptians, not native ones, anyway. It was planned by Ptolemy I Soter and built under Ptolemy II Philadelphus, both of whom were Macedonian rulers of Egypt. Although they held the title of Pharaoh, they were Macedonian transplants to Egypt, not natives. It would be more correct to say that the library was the collecting point of knowledge for the Hellenistic world.
