I went to a private school and I liked just about all the books I read for English
class in grades 7-12. However in 8th grade english class we were required to read this book called The Chosen by Chaim Potok. I just remember it was
incredibly boring. I remember it had something to do with some Orthodox
jew who has a son and the father obsesses about whether the son is following
all the rituals and practices of the Talmud. There is no real action or interesting
plot. It is jews obsessing about jew nonsense.
I went to the wikipedia page for this book and basically my memory was
close to accurate. That is basically what it is about. Maybe a jew would like to
read the book but a gentile would think WTF is this crap and who cares.
Is there a book or books that you were required to read in high school or college english class that you couldn't stand?
