I agree with Freud about the classical Greco-Roman world being preferable to the medieval catholic order that supplanted it. I also like the fact that Freud deeply observed human interactions and speculated on what lay beneath the surface of human civility. The "Rodney Dangerfield" analogy to describe Jewish contact with European gentile civility makes sense to me, the movie Caddyshack is an important movie in understanding gentile-jewish relations, but its also just a funny movie.
