My first "role model" was a Heavy Metal rocker too. whose name I don't wanna mention here, hehe.
I think Hetfield was a great choice.
He truly is the originator of Thrash Metal.

I personally enjoy their stuff after they went commercial.
I actually like "St. Anger" a bit. it sounds more like Slipknot / Korn than their style of Metal.
"Death Magnetic" was a pretty solid Heavy Metal album, it was produced by a Jew Rick Rubin though.
But their new album is boring and dull in my opinion.
"Ride the Lightning" is their best album hands down.
