Default #1 Death Thread

[going through my old paper notes, came across this good article from the Wall Street Journal. Living White in relation to death means setting up those around you to get through the process, and it is a process, with the least pain and most money at the back end. Death, like everything else in life, is a scam.]

Article:

The 25 Documents You Need Before You Die

- design your death dossier soon -- or you could be setting your heirs up for frustration and financial pain

The 25 documents:

- marriage license
- divorce papers

- personal and family medical history
- durable health-care power of attorney
- authorization to release health-care information
- living will
- do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order

- housing, land and cemetery deeds
- escrow mortgage accounts
- proof of loans made and debts owed
- vehicle titles
- stock certificates, savings bonds and brokerage accounts
- partnership and corporate operating agreements
- tax returns

- life-insurance policies
- individual retirement accounts (IRAs)
- 401(k) accounts
- pension documents
- annuity contracts

- list of bank accounts
- list of all user names and passwords
- list of safe-deposit boxes

- will
- letter of instruction
- trust documents

==============================

From the article:

"An original will is the most important document to keep on file. A will allows you to dictate who inherits your assets and, if your children are underage, their guardians. Dying without a will means losing control of how your assets are distributed. Instead, state law will determine what happens."
