Greece: One in Eight Firms Fined for Undeclared Labor

(ANSAmed) — ATHENS, DECEMBER 2 — In the period from September 15 to October 31 the Labor Ministry in Athens imposed fines adding up to 60 million euros on enterprises found to be employing uninsured workers, according to data from the Artemis project released on Monday and reported by daily Kathimerini online. A total of 29,079 companies were monitored, of which one in eight (12.53%), or 3,645, were found to be employing undeclared workers. Of the 157,085 employees checked, 5,751, or 3.66%, had not been declared to social security services.

Inspections intensified in October according to a new model of monitoring undeclared labor conducted by the Labor Inspection Squad and the special agency of the Social Security Foundation (IKA).
