AM radio 550 up here says that the Bakken is now pumping 200,000 barrels a day which is expected to reach 1,000,000 barrels per day by 2017. The station also broadcast that oil experts now believe the total reserves of the Bakken are greater than those of Saudi Arabia. They are now drilling as far south as Sturgis, SD. Wherever the drill in the Bakken, they hit oil. It is presently unknown how large the Bakken find really is. Three rigs just hit in Garfield county, MT...one in Sand Point (unsure if that is technically still Bakken--a realtor told me about those holes). Re Garfield, itself an interesting locale:
Quote:
...the county has a total area of 4,848 square miles (12,556.3 km2), of which 4,668 square miles (12,090.1 km2) is land and 179 square miles (463.6 km2) (3.70%) is water. Its average population density of 0.1058 inhabitants/kmē (0.274/sq mi) is the third-lowest of any county outside of Alaska (behind Loving County, Texas and Esmeralda County, Nevada).

On another unrelated mention: I know of 20 acres coming on market north of Kalispell for $65K.
