The prosecutor's thrust about Conley quoting Frank's mutterings about his rich family in BROOKLYN was particularly effective: no nigger in the South at that time would ever have said that; conversely, the defense's claim that Conley - who could barely scrawl out a few words for the fake notes Frank coerced him to write - pored over newspapers, understood them, and garnered that nugget is laughable.
