Regarding the jewish media family Bonniers: They came to Sweden in the 1820ies from Germany via Denmark.
The familys real name was Hirschel. Bonnier is a French name, which they "borrowed".
In Germany they had been chapmans and rag-and-bone-men. But in Sweden they found a better racket: selling books.
This and much more can be read (in Swedish) in a book that was published in 1937. The writer Martin Brandt borrows the name "Moses Smith" from August Strindberg.
