We should view this neutrally, with the assumption of innocent until proven guilty.
If folks want to help Steele, buy some of his books and pass them on, and be at the trial.

The most suspicious thing is that there does not appear to be a progression of events leading up to this. Almost always there is a pattern, and a clear progression of events.

Usually the path goes from accumulated stressful incidents to usually substance abuse/arguments to beatings then on to extreme violence/murder.

There would normally be a history of neighbours complaining, police visits to the place, wife staying away, doctor/hospital records of assaults etc.

The kids would often have been intimidated/beaten/threatened, stress would usually be clearly visible, along with attitude and especially weight problems amongst his daughters, his son would be constantly getting into trouble etc.

In other words, these things normally build up over a long period of time, with clear signs along the way.

None of this appears to have been mentioned when they charged him, which is most unusual, as its the first thing the police check up on and the first thing they state in bail applications.

The second suspicious thing is why two pipe bombs would have been planted, in a case which was supposed to look like an accident.

Pipe bombs are not that difficult to disarm, and use as evidence.
If they were armed at all that is, and not simply empty outer casings.
In this case, the evidence has conveniently been destroyed.

Faking a voice is far too risky for the police to do.
Modern technology would pick up immediately that it was fake.

Additionally, there's a lack of motivation.
Had Steele say in a rage struck her or beaten her and by so doing attempted to kill her yes that could be quite possible, but coldbloodedly planning a murder is not at all the same thing as an emotional act.

People don't usually murder their spouses because the murderer is having an affair, usually the murderer kills the spouse who was off having an affair.

It requires some other motivation.

Steel is no spring chicken, clearly not motivated by money, clearly loved his family, and as a lawyer would not face the financial difficulties other folks would face getting a reasonable settlement.

There would be nothing stopping a divorce or separation.

Means is doubtful, method is doubtful, motivation appears non-existent.
There is no apparent history that would indicate such a thing, and no apparent benefit in the future.
