Publication, on April 13, of information about alleged supplies of Russian weapons by the Croatian newspaper Večernji list

17 April 2017 - 18:22

We have taken note of an article published by the Croatian newspaper Večernji list dated April 13 and titled, New Russian pressure on Croatia: We delivered S-300s to you, where are the missing missiles? regarding alleged deliveries of Russian weapons, including S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, to Croatia during the 1991–1995 conflict in the former Yugoslavia.

In this connection, we would like to emphasise once again that we have unwaveringly adhered to international legal commitments in relation to the UN-imposed embargo on arms exports to the conflicting parties during the Yugoslav crisis of 1991–1995. It is no secret that, during this period, a large number of Soviet-made weapons, ammunition and military equipment were available in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in the former Soviet republics. As is known, shady Croatian dealers took advantage of this circumstance to supply Zagreb. Of course, Russia had nothing to do with this. Meanwhile, the goal of this propaganda campaign, built on malicious speculations surrounding the alleged fabrication, is quite clear, and is designed to damage Russia's cooperation with friendly states in the Balkans, and complicate our interaction with our partners, especially Serbia.
