One of my favorite books that I read in high school english (12th grade)
was Light in August by William Faulkner. One of my college english professors
said that this was one of the 4 great American novels, the others being Huckleberry Finn, The Scarlett Letter and a Hemingway novel. It may have
been The Sun Also Rises which I also read. If anyone wants to read Shakespeare I would say start with the 4 tragedies and as I mentioned before
Julius Caesar is very good. A good comedy that I would recommend is A
comedy of Errors. Shakespeare uses a lot of clever puns and word play
and I found it very funny even though it was written 400 years ago.
