Christine Beatty, chief of staff for former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from their text-messaging sex scandal case and will serve four months in jail, according to the Wayne County prosecutor's office.

Beatty pleaded guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice, according to Maria Miller, the prosecutor's spokeswoman. Charges of perjury and misconduct against Beatty will be dropped as part of the plea arrangement, she said.
Beatty agreed to a plea arrangement under which she will serve five years probation -- the first 120 days to be served in jail -- and pay a $100,000 fine, "based on [Beatty's] ability to pay," Miller said.
Beatty will begin serving her jail sentence on January 5, when she will be formally sentenced, Miller said.
Kym L. Worthy, prosecuting attorney for Wayne County, released a statement saying she is "very pleased that this defendant admitted her guilt."
"We live in an age where greed and protecting one's secrets is glorified and accepted," Worthy said. "Now the city of Detroit, the region and the state of Michigan can truly begin to move forward when this ugly chapter in Detroit's history is put to rest."
In September, Kilpatrick resigned as mayor and pleaded guilty to two felony obstruction of justice charges stemming from his efforts to cover up his relationship with Beatty.

Detroit, MI- After the smoke cleared, Judge Groner’s judgment decided Kwame Kilpatrick’s fate. Groner ruled Kilpatrick reneged on his restitution agreement to pay the city of Detroit over time.
Kilpatrick, while living the high life in Texas flaunted openly how he was living. He continued to drive expensive vehicles and live care-free after leaving the city of Detroit basically ruined. Shame? He didn’t show that he cared much about the city while in office, so he very well didn’t show concern while out.
The one time mayor and his assistant/mistress, Christine Beatty was charged with lying under oath when they testified during a whistle-blowers trial that cost the city millions. With his invincible demeanor, Kilpatrick sat looking on as his fate was read in court before Judge Kroner.
The excerpts from Judge Groner read, “Defendant is wrong when he argues that he has five years to pay his restitution. All the lawyers know that the restitution is always paid up front, based on ability to pay. This court is satisfied that the defendant could have paid significantly more than the $6,000 per month that I ordered. Not only did the defendant misrepresent his ability to pay restitution, he lied in his March 24, 2009, affidavit in that he could only afford $6 per month for restitution."
"It is not a crime to live like the privileged. But we are here because you committed perjury, you pled guilty and you agreed to pay $1 million in restitution. But you have not been responsible in paying it. You have not been credible in this courtroom, and you again have not been honest to the City of Detroit."
Kilpatrick was ordered, 90-days to pay $319,011.Freep.com reported that this was by far the worst day in court Kilpatrick has had since he was sentenced.
