Joe Cocker
. . where do you stand on him ? - - - My personal opinion . . . .. an example that even as a lowlife you can find your way in the music-business. . . . may be shocking for fans of his that I have that opinion of him , but . . . consider the following.... He was an alcoholic through and through. Some claim that that gave him his 'characteristic' voice ( his voice was deemed as being made 'of Sheffield-steel' ) but whatever. Second , he only covered other songs . . - - - So what we have here . . an alcoholic into stealing melodies of others . . He never wrote one note himself. He only got famous with a 'little help from friends' . . Hmmm . . - - - What remains to say is that , despite him being a lowlife alcie and only 'singing songs of others' , he was successful. Well . . if I poured so much whiskey each day I probably also would have a voice sounding similar to "Sheffield-steel" . . - - - I once heard that whenever he was in concert a bottle of whiskey was standing next to his mic . . - - - Interesting . . how some people make their money . . . . . . . He probably "sits at the bar in Heaven" now. Well . . not a too long life but certainly an interesting character. He 'had all the fun' even though never writing songs himself and he had a booze at every concert. Way to go . . hmmmm . . . - - - Well Joe , wherever you are now . . hope the whiskey is well. . . keep pourin'. Last edited by ColdFire; November 7th, 2019 at 11:46 PM. |

Did you ever see the John Belushi parody of Joe Cocker from Saturday Night
Live in the 70s? Belushi sings while pouring beer all over himself. It is hilarious. Though Belushi was not one to throw stones at others considering he was a hard core alcoholic and drug addict who died of a cocaine overdose at age 33.

. . people commend his voice more than anything . .
Well . . I suppose he also got that voice over the course of time 'with a little help from some friends' . . ( original version by Thin Lizzy ) |

The rock-version by Thin Lizzy , metal-version by Metallica . . the folk-version by The Dubliners. . . it is an old Irish drinking-song and the Dubliners version probably is closest to the original . . Last edited by ColdFire; November 16th, 2019 at 03:50 PM. |

N'oubliez jamais , I hear my father say ,every generation has its way . . .
For the record , maybe Mister Cocker sits at the heavenly bar with this guy now.
Germany's own Harald Juhnke, one of Germany's most prominent alcies in recent times. . . . his choice of beverage was Vodka though. |

I thought he sucked at the time of woodstock (I was 15 when woodstock took place...), however later I liked him.
Yes, he was a drinker and only covered songs by others but, given the standard that many have that music should only be judged whether it pleases your ears : I'd say he's one of the all time greats of music and has contributed much ... my 2cents.. |

He did a better cover of this song than the original, though. I will let you be the judge, not that I give a shit about your opinion.
