'High status' Roman gold ring found in Somerset field
'High status' Roman gold ring found in Somerset field An amateur detectorist has found what is believed to be one of the most significant archaeological finds in Somerset’s recent history. Jason Massey discovered a Roman gold signet ring with an engraving of the god Victory in a field near Crewkerne. Experts at the British Museum are yet to assess the ring but it is thought to date from 200 to 300 AD. The coin was found at the same site where Mr Massey and friends found a Roman lead-lined coffin in November. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-45028623 |

One ring to rule them all . . . . probably forged by a 'dark Roman lord' to rule the 'Barabarians' . . . No, but seriously. .Britain has been the site for many Roman findings and probably will remain in the future . . .The Romans sure have left a footprint there. . . |

Such long human habitation means the soil of Europe hides many wonderful treasures waiting to be revealed. I'd love to do metal detecting there.
