Question A racialist interpretation of the "Jungle Book" ?

. . really ? ? ?

Think about it . .

It is widely aknowledged that Rudyard Kipling was a racist , if not even a "supremacist" . . .

Well. .

A young "man cub" is found in the jungle by animals who raise him as one of their own . . .
During his journey he gets to know the dangers of the jungle, i. e. being far from civilisation . . .
He even is harassed by wild monkies who wish to be on the same level as man by trying to get the secret out of him how to make fire . . . .
In the end he discovers the world of man and is of course magically drawn into this world after what he had to endure in the jungle , i. e. he is drawn towards civilisation . .
Ordinary story, one might think. .

But I think a certain 'supremacism' may shine through this. . . .

Maybe Kipling , with this story , wanted to make clear that civilisation is the non plus ultra and that life in the jungle is damnable . . . ?

How do you view it ?

Concerning the movie, I might add that it contains some truly hilarious characters . . . .

For example Baloo , the bear . . . .

Who has ever seen a blue bear before ? ?

Or Colonel Hathi , you know , a British Imperial style elephant military leader . . .

I must say that I always did prefer the German version of this song though because it sounds a bit more "Nazi" . . . .

Yet my favourite of all characters in the movie has and always will be "brother Louie", you know, who Mowgli is good friends with in the beginning until he fiends out what they're after . . . . .

And, somehow, it is understandable that monkies would want to be like us . . .

They try it on America's streets day by day . . .
Way to go, Brother Louie . . . .

But I honestly didn't understand the reason for your "chimp-out" in the movie . . . . .

A while ago , I did a thread about "racism" in entertainment here . .

https://vnnforum.com/showthread.php?t=553437

. . should my analysis fit the truth , maybe even add 'the jungle book' to the list . .?

. . the novel was critisised as 'racist' and it was a known fact that R. Kipling was a racist . .

. . in fact a lot of authors in old times were racist . .

Another example would be Lovecraft . .

Lovecraft . . you know . .

Oh . . and by the way . .

I never read the novel. My older sister liked this movie when we were kids.

I think it's Louie Prima singing.

. . in the German version it's Klaus Havenstein ( who , despite his suspicious name , isn't jewish : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaus_Havenstein )

Oh ,I only now realize that the first name of the guy singing the English version and the monkey-king's first name are identical . .

lol . . never paid attention to that . . I wonder if Louie Prima was , by his buddies , maybe forth on , only referred to as 'King Louie' after singing this song .

. . well , the name chosen could also be an allusion to this man though . .

Weird, they kept some of the Phil Harris (Baloo) part in that.

He was in another Disney movie that I liked as a kid. My French friend told me this was the first movie his mum took him to. He's a little younger than me.
