Default Jews fear rise in nationalism

Decades after Hitler came to power, the influence of his ideology lives on – and Neo-Nazism, strictly suppressed in Germany, has found breathing space in the Czech Republic.

Ondrej Cakl, chairman of the Czech human rights ‘Tolerance’ organisation, started monitoring the activities of Neo-Nazis and their sympathisers in the 90s.

“I started attending right-wing demonstrations in 1990 because I sympathised with the ideas,” he said. “But then I figured out there were lies and manipulation. After every such rally, about 50 racist skinheads would beat someone up. That was when it struck me how scary it was. For the first time in my life I saw someone kick a person in the face with a boot. There was a lot of blood and the person couldn’t see anything because of the blood pouring out.”

For more than a decade Ondrej has been putting together archive footage of such events.

Partly thanks to his footage about 50 of the most active Neo-Nazis in the Czech Republic were arrested.

Today the right-wing extremists try to behave, at least in public.

The event called ‘Freedom day’ in the east Bohemian city of Hradec Kralove was meant to become the biggest rally of its kind in the Czech Republic ever. But when its location was made public, the event was banned.

The event was organised by the extreme right ‘Workers’ Party’ (in Czech ‘Delnicka strana’ - DS).

“Media - that’s the problem! If it wasn’t for the media, there wouldn’t have been such hysteria around us and our event wouldn’t have been cancelled. And there wouldn’t have been so many police! It’s absolutely excessive!” says DS deputy head Petr Kotab.

DS has been striving to get its members elected to parliament. Its manifesto proposes abolishing all support for immigrants, registering the nationality of the country's inhabitants and confirming it on people's birth certificates and ID.

It also demands the Czech Republic withdraws from NATO and the EU. But the party’s supporters have their own interpretation.

A Czech ultra-nationalist, who didn’t want to be identified, told RT: “The Workers’ Party is the only real Czech Party that defends the Czechs and fights against drugs, crime and illegal immigrants. Our current regime works with the Jews who are a major evil. We also have problems with Roma people - we, the white people, end up working for them while they take social benefits.”

And despite objections from the city council, the gathering marched through the city and held a brief public demonstration with a large contingent of riot police on standby.

The exact number of those with far-right nationalist views in the Czech Republic is not known. Until now, the country's estimated three to five thousand right-wing radicals remained an insignificant fringe group without a strong centralised leadership or political backing.

But Czech right-wingers have recently begun trying to become more visible, promote their political ideas and overcome their political isolation – and seem to have got Germany’s National Democratic Party support.

“The main message is that we belong together! I tried to communicate that we, German nationalists, have solidarity with Czech nationalists and that we are happy to work together!” said Per Lennart Aae, member of the NPD executive council.

jewsign Nationalists allegedly attack Jew in Prague

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - Police have detained three neo-Nazis who allegedly attacked a Jewish man in Prague.

Police spokeswoman Eva Brozova says the three allegedly kicked the 52-year-old man and hit him with a cobblestone in Prague's historic Jewish quarter late Tuesday.

She says the three suspects - aged 21, 23, and 23 - were detained shortly after the incident and have not been charged yet.

If they are tried and convicted of racism, hooliganism and causing bodily harm, they be imprisoned for five years.

Tomas Kraus, secretary of the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic, says the victim is man of German origin who lives in Prague. Kraus says the attack had nothing to do with a meeting of European rabbis taking place in Prague this week.

Riot in Czech

"Riot police in the northern Czech town of Litvinov have waged a bloody battle with far-right protesters trying to reach a Roma (Gypsy) suburb.

Police, some mounted on horses, tried to force back rioters from a 500-strong crowd with batons and tear gas as youths hurled petrol bombs and stones.

Seven demonstrators and seven police officers were injured in the clashes.

The violence broke out at a march by the far-right Workers' Party on Monday, a public holiday in the Czech Republic.

At least one injured policeman could be seen lying on the ground with blood on his face, and a police car was set alight.

Some of the rioters wore masks

About 1,000 police were deployed to control the marchers.

"The police tried to get the demonstrators back to the planned march route but they started throwing flaming bottles," said police spokeswoman Jarmila Hrubesova.

About 15 people were reportedly arrested.

The Czech Republic's largely impoverished Roma population has long been a target for right-wingers and many Roma in the country of 10 million complain of endemic racial discrimination.

Radical right-wingers like the Workers' Party have failed to make inroads in national politics over the past decade, analysts say. "

I only saw a handfull of that scum. They were housed in the middle of town, where we stayed. Because of being outnumbered, they stayed in their place. When you get them around other Muds, they get bold, as is the case here in Germany. The more Muds, the bolder

Default The riots in the northern Czech town of Litvinov

November 24th, 2008

On 17.11.2008 our nation commemorated 69th anniversary of the execution of Czech nationalist university students murdered by occupants’ governors in 1939 and also 19th anniversary of so called “Velvet revolution”, an orchestrated fall of hated and oppresive communist regime. The ordinary Czech people stood no chance to know they had fallen a victim to the plot created by the powerfuls whose aim was to demote communism as an outdated and disfunctional ideology but to preserve its spirit in our souls. The progressive cadres of the regime were secretly preparing for the handover of power to the forces of humanistic opposition alongside with maintaining of their influence and dignity within the scope of new structures. Manipulated nation were ringing the keys with their aim to kiss communists the last goodbye on their way to real freedom. Unfortunately despite the proclamations “We are not the ones of their kind” we have reached a new form of soft totality along with the new dogmas and taboos creating the new amorphous man for new era (homo economicus) devoid of any common bonds with the people of his origin based on the cultural, spiritual, etnical and civilizational values.

The problems of our people have been neglected by our political bigwigs for so long it has resulted in one of the biggest civil unrests since 1989. A crowd of approximately 1500 Czech citizens (often branded as extremists or neonazi by medial propaganda) gathered in the town of Litvinov located in Northern Bohemia under the banners of Workers’ party and Autonomous nationalist movement to protest against the oppression of Czech locals by the Gypsy hordes threatening and attacking their neighbours in Janov estate. After speeches held by the members of the opposition movements at the central square of Litvinov the crowd commenced its march to the estate plagued by ethnical and social problems, supported by inconsiderable number of citizens displaying their anger with the local magistrates unable (or unwilling) to make any effective measures in solving their problems. The massive police presence in the area suggested the representatives of the system had failed to liaise with the disunited parties and assessed repression as the only way of keeping the problem under the lid. As soon as demonstrants reached distant Janov estate they encountered the shaped police forces had been instructed not to let anybody through by any means and a regular civil war erupted shortly. Police in heavy armour deployed panzers, water cannons and explosives in their effort to stop the demonstrants who were hurling missiles at its ranks and even set a police car ablaze.

Police forces were panicking shortly and resorted to unprecedented level of violence not unsimilar to the events at 1989 whose targets weren’t just the active protesters, but also members of local public, often accompanied by their children or grandchildren. An elderly woman suffered heart attack and had to be transported to hospital immediately, also one of the protesters suffered a serious injury whilst operating with a detonator had been thrown at by police forces which exploded and blew all the fingers of his right hand off. Many nationalist protesters as well as policemen were wounded during the chaotic clash between police cavalry and demonstrants who were halted before the end of their march at the borders of Janov estate. Even some articles on “neutral” and “indifferent” websites indicate the police commanders weren’t coping with the conflict situation well stirring even more chaos up by their unprofessional steps allowing their subordinates to attack passerby families and even reporter of the local paper. Demonstrators eventually withdrew after finding out their effort to break through heavy armed polices forces was vain.

This wave of unrest didn’t surge all of sudden but resulted from the gloomy stiuation of Czech locals, whose rights weren’t efectively protected either by members of state or local police and were exposed to day-to-day violence of Gypsy newcomers who had been moved there by estate agencies needing to get rid of them from more lucrative areas. Desperate locals’ last resort after had been abandoned by politicians of all levels was to contact the members of nationalist Worker’s party, who formed their patrol to enquire the area at the beginning of October but were expelled by an assembly of Gypsies led by bosses of the town’s criminal underworld. One of their leaders, Vilda Matej and his bodybuilders’ company were threatening a tiny girl standing at the front of Worker’s party patrol telling her they would turn her into a lifelong prostitute earning money for their clan right in front the local police starring at the dispute unable to intervene. This sort of “promise” was accompanied by the rudest racist swearwords Czech language contains (which can be translated as “you f***ing Czech swines, get away from here, I’ll smash you into pieces right now, you white Czech c***s, you f***ing Czech scum..”) Matej was said to be a member of local Litvinov’s police in the past still keeping in touch with its current commanders who are scared of him and his bodyguards.

Workers’ party reacted promtly and organized the first protest for 18th October 2008 which was directed by the same scenario as the November’s but didn’t reach such a level of riot but served as the first call to arms and was met with loyalty and active support of ordinary Czech locals. In the meantime the minister of national minorities Dzamila Stehlikova agreed to meet the Gypsy representatives (in gambling house called Calypso!) but completely ignored the rights of Litvinov’s Czechs, as like as the interior minister Ivan Langer who drafted a proposal for legal dissolution of Workers’ party on grounds of suspicion of leading an active racist and neonazi policy.

You don’t necessarilly have to support any political party to realize something is really wrong and rotten in Czech political scene, the only solution of current nomenclature is just pure respression without any will to consider the grounds of peoples’ activities. The Czech citizens are rather sent to prison for verbal crimes (i.e. creating of revisionist webzine, organizing marches and demonstrations, waving symbols, etc.) instead of putting the situation into broader context looking for any solution which would regard their needs and opinions which are taken into account just before any elections take place.

Leader of Workers’ Party promises reformation under new name as government requests banning

The government is seeking the banning of the Workers’ Party, the far-right grouping who made international headlines after trying to attack a largely Romany estate in a north Bohemian town last week. At the same time, the party’s leader has already said that if they are banned they will simply come back under a different name.

Dělnická strana (the Workers’ Party) entered the public consciousness in a big way last Monday, when several hundred of their supporters fought a pitched battle with police in Litvínov, after they were prevented from entering a mostly Romany estate. It was the worst street violence seen in the Czech Republic in several years and made the news around Europe.

However, the Workers’ Party were not an unknown quantity before that rioting. Groups monitoring far-right extremism had been calling for their prohibition for some time. And the minister of the interior, Ivan Langer, was already working on a proposal to ban them.

With the events in Litvínov having brought the subject into the spotlight, the cabinet on Monday backed Mr Langer’s plan to ask the Supreme Administrative Court to ban the neo-Nazi grouping. It is the first time since the fall of communism in 1989 that such a request has been made by the government on the basis of the actual activities of an extremist group; previously, parties have been barred on technicalities.

Justifying the banning request at a news conference, Minister Langer read from a recent Workers’ Party’s statement, in which they call for zero tolerance towards the post-revolution political system, the elimination of which they have been demanding for some time.

Now it is the Workers’ Party themselves that could be eliminated. However, what that means in practical terms could be hard to measure, as the group’s leader Tomáš Vandas has already said its members would reform under a different name.

By the way, Mr Vandas has a history in extremist politics: in the 1990s he was a member of Miroslav Sládek’s Republicans, the only far-right party ever to enter the Czech Parliament. Another Worker’s Party leader, Erik Sedláček, is currently in prison for Holocaust denial and calling for the liquidation of Jews.

As well as pushing for the barring of the Workers’ Party, the cabinet on Monday voted to establish by the end of February a new inter-ministerial body to monitor extremists on both the far-right and the far-left.

Meanwhile in Litvínov, where the Workers’ Party and their supporters went on the rampage eight days ago, the local authorities are bracing themselves for more trouble. Several applications to hold demonstrations have been lodged at the town hall. Some are from Romany and Jewish groups. The others are from neo-Nazis, including the Workers’ Party, who want to hold a protest on December 13 against police brutality and in support of “dealing with the problem of unadaptable residents” – code for Romanies.

Default Czech court upholds punishment for "racist" webpage

Brno - The Czech Constitutional Court (US) today finally confirmed a suspended sentence for a youth from Ostrava, North Moravia, for operating a webpage in which he called for "rahowa" (racial holy war).

The judges dismissed the youth's complaint as unsubstantiated.

"Even the fundamental right to the freedom of speech is not limitless," the court panel said.

"It can be reduced for the sake of the protection of rights and freedoms of other people or for the sake of protection of public security," it added.

The youth committed the crime in 2003, when he was underage.

He proclaimed hatred for Romanies and Jews on the webpage. He informed about the meetings celebrating Adolf Hitler's anniversary and published links to other webpage on the issue.

He greeted the webpage users with the Nazi salute, used the symbols of Nazi Germany and the abbreviation 88 meaning "Heil Hitler."

Last January, he received a 6-month sentence suspended for 15 months.

The ruling was also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Thumbs up Czech sterilization of filthy Subhumans

...In September, the European Roma Rights Center, a regional non-governmental organization, and the League of Human Rights, Life Together and IQ Roma Service, published a report alleging coercive sterilizations of Romani women in the Czech Republic. Their research indicated that a practice which had officially been promoted in the 1970s and 1980s continued into the 1990s when Romani women were subjected to sterilization procedures without full and informed consent. According to the non-governmental organizations documented cases included instances in which no consent, in any form, had been sought prior to the operation; cases in which consent was obtained during delivery or shortly before delivery, during advanced stages of labour; or instances in which consent had been obtained in circumstances which could not be considered to amount to free and informed, as required by internationally recognized principles...

Default German, French nationalists attend Czech DS's Day of Freedom

Quote:
Prague/Novy Knin - Some 300 supporters of the Czech ultra-right Workers' Party (DS), including people from Germany and France, arrived in Novy Knin today to attend the "Day of Freedom 2," that the DS described as a political and cultural event.

The supporters of the extremist party gathered at a local outdoor cinema where journalists have not been allowed. Outside the theatre journalists could hear music and speeches delivered by the participants some of whom were from Slovakia and Germany.

Court acquits man who challenged Holocaust

11 December 2009

http://praguemonitor.com/2009/12/11/...nged-holocaust

Prague, Dec 10 (CTK) - A Czech court yesterday acquitted Vladimir Stwora, a Czech Canadian who placed a Czech translation of an article allegedly challenging the Holocaust on his website.

Stwora faced the charges of support and promotion of movements aimed to suppress human rights and freedoms.

The court, however, said there has been no evidence to prove the suspect's intention to challenge the Holocaust.

The verdict has not taken effect yet as the state attorney has appealed it on the spot.

Originally the court imposed a suspended ten-month prison sentence with two-year probation on Stwora but he appealed the verdict.

Stwora placed a Czech translation of the article headlined "Holocaust and its Four-Million Variant" on his website in July 2007. The state attorney says the text questions the Nazi genocide of Jews during World War Two in terms of the number of victims and the existence of extermination camps and gas chambers.

Stwora previously pleaded not guilty and said he considers the accusations absurd. He said the article does not challenge the Holocaust but only asks questions and points to discrepancies even among official sources.

Stwora said he ublished the article in order to provoke a discussion about the issue.

Czech authorities demand answers on organ harvesting

Gabriel Ronay, Kosovo

The Czech foreign Ministry has asked the Pristina authorities for a clear-cut statement on reports that three Czech students were among the victims of the Kosovo Liberation Army’s secret organ harvesting from Slav prisoners during the Kosovo war.

Jiri Benes, head of the Czech Republic’s foreign ministry’s press department, said in Prague that three Czech students, reported missing on the Albanian-Kosovo border in 2001, have not been heard of since.

The Czech Republic is seriously concerned, he said, that they might have become the victims of the Albanian fighters’ alleged practice of abducting foreigners, killing them and removing their organs for secret sale on the Western organ black market.

Default Czech far-right party to appeal against ban

...The Workers' Party has garnered support from the relatively thin ranks of Czech neo-Nazis, but also appealed to some voters frustrated by social and ethnic tensions, especially in neighborhoods inhabited by the minority Roma population.

The European Roma Rights Center (ERRC), a support group for the Roma population, welcomed the decision, saying they hoped it would improve living conditions for Roma people in the Czech Republic.

"More importantly, however, the Czech authorities must act aggressively to prosecute Workers' Party members and other individuals who committed crimes against the Roma," the ERRC's Rob Kushen said...
