Government pledges £1.7 million for Holocaust education in Autumn Budget

Holocaust education is set to get a £1.7 million funding boost in next week’s Autumn Budget, the Treasury has announced.

The money will be distributed among charities which co-ordinate Holocaust survivors’ visits to schools across the UK, and those which organise visits to concentration camps.

Karen Pollock, chief executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said: “This year we have seen an unprecedented level of antisemitism across the UK. We are delighted to be working with the Department for Education and Her Majesty’s Treasury to develop plans to address this issue head on, through education.

Holohoax Centre planned in London

In September 2016, the Department for Communities and Local Government launched an international two-stage design competition for a National Memorial to honour the victims and survivors of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution. Envisaged as a place for everyone to come to remember the Holocaust, as well as a focal point for annual national commemorations, the Memorial will affirm the United Kingdom’s commitment to stand up against prejudice and hatred.
