But do you know what word they use to mean "fart" in Britain?

And "fag" means "cigarette" in British English. And "hood" means "penis" in Jamaican English.

Here's more funny Asian stuff:

What gives here? Certainly there are Asians who read and write English. So is this kind of sign deliberate? (unless "Ass" is someone's surname)

I was also wondering about that. Especially if some of these photos were taken in Hong Kong where there are plenty of good English speakers.

Kinda like "Porn Beauty Salon" where "Porn" is a Thai female name that means "blessing":

Or "Watch your step - your driver is Anass Rhammar" (an ass rammer):

Or Anu Sharma who runs "Anus English Academy" (i.e. Anu’s English Academy):

If the business is located in Latin America, that is what it means. Like Donald Trump, the Great Navigator has a name that has a scatological meaning in other languages.

Yeah, naming your daughter "Porn" is pretty bad, but in my opinion "Tran Ho" (which is also a real Asian name) is even worse.

My Dung, Fat Kok, Rong Phuk, Phat Phuc…

Tom Jones is a phuking genius for starting this thread.

Yes, and it's also a type of perfume:

Why Knowing The Difference Between Colon And Cologne Is Kind Of Important

(...) Remember that day in kindergarten when Miss Hover explained the difference between "colon" and "cologne" and warned us never to get the two mixed up when tweeting about enjoying the smell of yours or someone else's cologne? It seems all of these people were out sick that day.

Yes, and penis is called "tallywacker".

Speaking of penises, here’s Hung Far Low:

And the Golden Shower Restaurant:

And an interesting sign from China:

Who is this Paul person, and why do the Chinese authorities hate/fear him?

More funny Chinglish translations:

"Very suspicious supermarket"? Yes, it is...if it sells "faggot meat" and "edible rape".

And finally...

China is capable of anything. So goes the mantra in the west. So when they say they have cans of The Jew’s Ear Juice, maybe they mean it.

Beaner's Coffee? Not quite as funny as My Dung, Fat Kok and Rong Phuk, but still pretty cool.

Quote:
Beaner is derogatory slang for Mexicans or people of Mexican descent. [1][2][3] The term originates from the prevalence of pinto beans and other beans in Mexican cuisine.[3][4][5]
(…)
In 2007, regional coffee chain Biggby Coffee, having been called "Beaner's Coffee" since its founding in 1997, decided to change its name to Biggby Coffee in response to comments about the unintended slur in its name. Biggby CEO and founder Bob Fish said, “We ultimately felt we would be condoning the use of a disparaging term if we chose to do nothing.”[6]

And here’s the Jig-A-Loo:

And the Moolatte:

What about Bimbo bread?

When are the beaners going to change the name of that to suite our sensibilities? That term is insulting to women, especially White women.

Well, bimbo means "(male) child" in Italian, but I realize that it sounds funny to Americans.

Well, next time I visit Italy, I'm going to tell all those Italian to stop using that word, because it offends Americans. After all, anything that an American finds offensive must be wrong, mustn't it?

These kinds of things often happen to me. Because I’m multilingual and well-traveled, I often come across words that have an obscene meaning in other languages that I speak. I can enter a supermarket and see products whose names mean "fart", "cock", etc., I can come across a restaurant named "poop" or hear a popular female given name that means "pussy". Monolingual Americans probably don’t experience this as often as I do.

I'd like to point out, though, that the American word "bimbo" is actually believed to derive from the Italian word for child or baby:

Quote:
Origin of bimbo
1915–20, Americanism; perhaps < Italian bimbo baby
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/bimbo?s=t

Quote:
bimbo (n.)
a word of vague etymology, perhaps a convergence of two or more words, given wide application in late 19c. and settling into its main modern meaning "floozie" from early 1920s, with a revival in 1980s.

Bimbo first appears as the name of an alcoholic punch, mentioned in newspapers from New York state (1837), Boston (1842), and New Orleans (1844, but as having come from Boston). This sense quickly fades, though it occasional is on menus as late as 1895.

From 1860-1910, Bimbo as a proper name is frequent: It is the name or part of the name of several race horses, dogs, and monkeys, a circus elephant (perhaps echoing Jumbo), and a jester character in a play. It is in the title of a three-act musical farce ("Bimbo of Bombay"), and the name of a popular "knockabout clown"/actor in England and several other stage clowns. Also it appears as a genuine surname, and "The Bimbos" were a popular brother-sister comedy acrobatics team in vaudeville.

A separate bimbo seems to have entered American English c. 1900, via immigration, as an Italian word for a little child or a child's doll, evidently a contraction of bambino "baby."

Yeah, I know that all this is off topic. Tom, if you're reading this (and I know that you are since you're still with us), I'm sorry for hijacking your thread.
