Otherwise it has a grungy, metallica-fan look. And the lighting seems dull, in many scenes. |

They were more frequently healers and magicians as opposed to warriors, in this context, but it wasn't unheard of for women to take up arms. The swedish term for them is 'sköldmö' (shield maiden). While one might find some historical examples of individuals, the era itself have always been a bit short on personal accounts and history of specific individuals etc.

Yeah she's described as a shield maiden and she isn't a central figure to the show or anything.

Plus remember that among the Scythians; for example, we know of several famous female warriors (not least the last consort of Mithradates) and there is some evidence that the ancient Germans and Gauls also had them as well.

I can check my reference books if you'd like, but I am pretty sure they did as I remember reading it on more than one occasion. The rationale being that; like with Spartan men, nudity meant that you would be more self-conscious about your body meaning in turn that you would push your body more in exercise.

The 3rd episode "Dispossessed" is online now. I haven't watched it yet. I suppose it's only a matter of time before they introduce a black Viking. Will let you know. -------- Nevermind I see they're starting now. Last edited by varg; March 11th, 2013 at 10:01 AM. Reason: .. |

I watched the first epidose. Not bad but as always, they have to trow some crap here and there for entertainment value... a pagan shaman ''300'' style, village degenerates, a brother that is not a so good brother, a boat maker who can hear trees... at least they got the hair styles and the rest right. Will watch the next epidode later.

Has anyone noticed the obvious juxtaposition of the show Vikings alongside the show The Bible?
To me it seems intention and deliberate, as if to promote Christianity as being so much better than Dark Ages, Barbarian, White, native pagan religion, as if to say "See how much better this religion that we Jews created for you is compared to your own native religion." |
