Visitor from Far, Far Away: Interstellar Object Spotted in Our Solar System
Visitor from Far, Far Away: Interstellar Object Spotted in Our Solar System A visitor from interstellar space has likely been spotted in our solar system for the first time ever. The object, known as A/2017 U1, was detected last week by researchers using the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope in Hawaii. "We have been waiting for this day for decades," Paul Chodas, manager of the Center for Near-Earth Object Studies at the NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, said in a statement https://www.space.com/38580-interste...d-mystery.html |

Incredible that this object which originated from outside our solar system hundreds, possibly thousands of light-years away could thread such a cosmic needle by passing between the Sun and the orbit of Mercury, then passing within 15 million miles of Earth before heading out back into the interstellar void. There was some buzz on the space and astronomy forums speculating that this would be the same type of trajectory an alien probe doing a quick reconnaissance of our star system would take. Interesting thought, but more than likely it was a natural object.

I don't want to produce another conspiracy theory but using Solar System's gravity might be great acceleration factor for some space ship.
Of course it could be just a rock. |
