Ed Miliband: 'It doesn't have to be this way'

The Labour leader said the UK had a chance to "change direction"

Ed Miliband has pledged a recovery that reaches people's "kitchen table" if Labour wins May's general election.

In his new year message, the Labour leader said many people were working harder "but standing still". He added: "It doesn't have to be this way."

Mr Miliband said his party would reveal ideas to raise wages, establish "fair rules for immigration" and "rescue our NHS" in the run-up to the election.

"As this new year dawns, we have the chance to change direction," he added.

Mr Miliband has faced questions over his leadership in recent months.

On Wednesday, speaking to the Economist, former Labour prime minister Tony Blair cast doubt on whether the party could win based on a "traditional left-wing" platform.

But Mr Miliband insisted the party could win power back in 2015.

"This year, we have the power to bring about the change working families all over Britain need," he said.

He highlighted families "struggling with bills that are growing faster than their wages" and young people "taking on mountains of debt to get a proper education, only to find themselves with no job at the other end".

He also spoke of the NHS "where people are waiting longer and longer to get the care they need."

'Concrete plan'

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg said Labour was not credible on the economy in his own new year message on Tuesday.

But Mr Miliband said: "This isn't about idle dreams or empty promises.

"It's about a real, concrete plan: a plan for a recovery which reaches your kitchen table."

The Labour leader said none of the changes would be "easy or instant".

"But it is possible if we run the country in a different way: with a different idea, a different plan: putting working people first," he added.

Referring to next year's 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two, Mr Miliband said the challenges today were different.

"But if we could walk through those fires, we surely can meet the problems of our time," he said. "We can build a country that works for everyday people."

Post Labour accused of excluding ethnic minority candidates-Jew leader Ed Miliband urged by party activists to take action to ensure more MPs from minority backgrounds elected

Labour leader Ed Miliband has been urged by party activists to take action to ensure more MPs from ethnic minority backgrounds are elected amid claims some constituencies are excluding black and Asian candidates.

Labour has only nominated one non-white candidate to run in the May 2015 General Election out of the 34 seats where Labour MPs are stepping down.

The Conservative Party has selected five non-white candidates to stand in the 32 seats where MPs are retiring. While this presents a stark contrast with the Labour selection, the Tories recently came under fire after a Tory councilor suggested one candidate was not selected because she was non-white and female.

Furthermore, Labour has only selected a small number of ethnic minority standard-bearers in ultra-marginal seats, where Miliband stands a higher chance of winning new Labour seats.

David Lammy, the black Labour MP for Tottenham, said the latest figures were significantly worse than previous elections for the party, which has traditionally performed better than its rivals for the promotion of non-white candidates.

Lammy suggested in future Labour should guarantee at least one non-white candidate on the shortlist of constituencies with a poor record of choosing ethnic minority candidates.

He warned that the party may look “complacent” about its support from ethnic minorities.

“The party is in danger of looking incredibly complacent. Britain’s ethnic minorities have traditionally voted Labour but parliament is a long, long way from reflecting the nation as a whole.”

“If we are failing to select enough on a regional basis over a period of time, we ought to think about black and minority shortlists, with at least one on the list,” he said.

Speaking to The Independent, a member of Labour’s national executive committee called the party’s record “shameful.”

The Conservatives have chosen standard-bearers from ethnic minorities in South Ribble, Havant, Hampshire North East, Wealden and Richmond, where retiring Tory MPs are leaving their successors with comfortable Conservative majorities.

However, the issue of race is proving damaging to the Conservatives, too.

In November John Barnes, a Tory councilor for Bexhill and Battle, came under fire after he told the Financial Times the combination of Suella Fernades’ sex and ethnicity was a “handicap” which caused her to miss selection as a Conservative candidate. Fernades is of Mauritian and Kenyan descent.

The activist came third in the battle to replace Greg Barker MP in the safe Conservative seat, eventually losing out to Huw Merrimen, a local lawyer, who will stand for election in May 2015.

Barnes further said Fernandes put in a “wowzer performance on the night” after “battling three good men,” but added that “the double whammy of being brown and a woman probably handicaps her still.”

A Labour spokesperson told The Independent it had more ethnic minority MPs, MEPs and councillors than any other party, but admitted there was still work to be done.

“We know there is always more to do and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we break down the barriers to political participation.”

Ed Miliband’s inner circle think people with Northern accents are stupid, a Labour MP has claimed.

Prominent Left-winger Ian Lavery said the party’s elite looked down on working-class supporters in the North.

The Wansbeck MP, a former miner, said: ‘We’ve got an elite in Westminster which quite frankly frightens me.

‘They haven’t been anywhere or done anything, and when you’ve got an accent like mine they think, “well that man doesn’t really know too much”.’

His broadside follows claims by Tony Blair that Mr Miliband is leading the party to defeat.

Mr Lavery, a former president of the National Union of Mineworkers who took part in the 1984-85 strike, spoke out at a conference organised by left-wing think-tank CLASS.

He said too few of the Labour hierarchy in Westminster have done manual jobs, adding: ‘Sadly there’s not enough MPs who’ve actually worked on the coalface, on the factory floor.’

Last night Mr Lavery insisted his comments were about the need for more working-class MPs and ‘in no way a criticism’ of Mr Miliband or his office.

He added in a statement: ‘For the record, I believe Ed Miliband is absolutely the right man to bring in policies that will be of great benefit to people in the North and across the country.’

However, his comments come as Labour MPs fight over the direction of the party following the critique by Mr Blair – who last night quickly backtracked over his remarks.

In a swift U-turn, the former Labour PM gave Mr Miliband his full support – just hours after saying he expects the Labour leader to lose the election.

Mr Blair sparked a backlash after warning that the party had been dragged to the Left and is on course for disaster at the polls.

Default Ed Miliband calls for Facebook to enforce anti-Semitism rules

Ed Miliband calls for Facebook to enforce anti-Semitism rules

Labour leader Ed Miliband has called on social networks such as Facebook to strictly enforce their rules against anti-semitism and racism in the wake of the recent attacks on the Jewish community in France.

Writing in the Jewish Chronicle, Mr Miliband said last year had seen a "record number of anti-semitic incidents in the UK".

He called for a "zero tolerance" approach to anti-semitism, includin on the internet.

We should constantly be asking what more the Government can do to help build confidence in British Jewish communities.

We also need to ensure that antisemitism and racism are tackled online and that sites such as Facebook enforce their own rules when it comes to hate-filled content on its social network.

Post Watch: Miliband Embarrassed as Working Class Voter Tells Him: 'We're All Voting Ukip'

Ed Miliband is no stranger to awkward moments, but so far the worst he’s been faced with is a bacon sandwich – until yesterday when a worker at the BAE factory in Lancashire told him “we’re all voting Ukip.”

Miliband was on a tour of the workshops at the BAE site in Samlesbury, where the F35 Lightning II and Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft are built, when he was confronted by electrician Peter Baldwin who told him: “This morning we sat in the brew room over there, your workers, and they are all leaning now towards Ukip. Now, the question on everybody’s mind is the referendum. I know what you’re going to say, but the working class man in here wants to have a say.”

The confrontation is particularly embarrassing for Miliband as Labour is traditionally seen as the party of the working class, and plays into the view that Ukip is now challenging the party’s dominance among this section of the electorate.

Miliband tried to deflect the awkward line of questioning by interjecting “Immigration is a big issue for lots of people as well, isn’t it”, before setting out Labour’s policies on immigration, including a ban on claiming benefits for immigrants who have been in the country for less than two years before wrapping up with a cheery “anyway, very nice to meet you!”

Mr Baldwin later told the BBC that the chat had taken place between “20-odd working-class blokes”, of whom he said: “Basically they are just not happy with Labour at the moment. The big thing with the working-class man is immigration and Europe.”

Miliband has repeatedly faced down calls from donors to match the Conservative pledge to hold and in-out referendum. Last July, in response to calls from the union Unite for a referendum, Miliband said: “I have no truck with those who say we should cut ourselves off from the rest of the world.”

Douglas Alexander, Labour’s pro-EU shadow Foreign Secretary concurs, insisting that continued EU membership “remains central to our prosperity and security”, and that Labour would “set itself the task of reviewing, repairing, and resetting our country’s approach to Europe.”

But the challenge by Mr Baldwin comes as another Labour donor, John Mills, who has handed the party £1.65 million in total, again renewed calls for a change of Labour policy on the issue, the Daily Mail has reported. Speaking at a Eurosceptic conference, Mr Mills said: “I have heard rumours that there is a majority of people in the shadow cabinet who are in favour of having a referendum.

“I’m sure one of the reasons for this is concern about whether refusing to have a referendum is going to lose Labour votes in what is going to be a very tight election. I think it certainly will and this is one of the major reasons why, from a tactical and strategic point of view, it is in the Labour party’s interests to have a referendum sometime between 2015 and 2020.”

Mr Mills, who is a Eurosceptic, campaigned against Britain’s continuing membership of what was then known as the European Economic Community during the 1975 referendum. He told the audience that if there is another referendum, senior Labour figures ought to be allowed to campaign according to their conscience, saying “What was agreed then [in 1975] was that each side of the Labour party could make speeches and campaign for what they thought was right. My guess is that something like that will happen again. I think the unions will probably be split as well.”

He said that it was not “impossible” that Labour might have a change of heart on whether or not to hold a referendum, warning that merely attempting to renegotiate without the threat of a referendum hanging over Brussels would “inevitably weaken the UK’s bargaining position. Minds in Brussels are much more likely to take renegotiation seriously if they know that there is a substantial risk that the UK will leave the EU if there is not a satisfactory deal on the table to persuade the UK to stay in.

“Whether they want to remain in the EU or they want to leave, there are many in the Labour Party who are united in their belief that the British people must be given an EU referendum to put this issue to bed once and for all,” he concluded.

Post Labour's Ed Miliband (Jew) to introduce diversity quotas to reverse inequality

GETTY

Ed Miliband has proposed all-women shortlists for some Westminster seats

The proposals are likely to feature in a black and minority ethnic manifesto, which will be launched alongside the party’s general election pledges.

The party says it will also reform stop and search powers, going much further than Theresa May, and devolve youth unemployment measures to local authorities to help support young black and ethnic minority youngsters find work.

Shadow justice Secretary Sadiq Khan would also like to see Black and Minority Ethnic and all-women shortlists introduced for Westminster seats, if the number of women and ethnic minorities returned to Parliament in May is not significantly higher.

Mr Khan, who has been tasked with leading the party’s efforts to secure and increase its ethnic minority vote share, said “nothing was off the table” when it came to eradicating what he described as “inequalities” within the system. His vision for the future is also part of a bold appeal to black and ethnic minority voters, who are expected to play a prominent role in the election after research showed that in 168 marginal seats the ethnic minority vote is bigger than the majority of the sitting MP.

“Our black and minority ethnic manifesto seeks to address the inequalities in the system to enable everyone regardless of their religion or ethnicity to fulfil their potential and ensure there is no inbuilt hindrance in their way.

“My message to your readers is that this will promote a rise in talent that will benefit us all.

“Don’t think that if my children fulfil their potential it will be to the detriment of your children.

The fast-track civil service is full of white Oxbridge candidates so we need to change the civil service as well

Sadiq Kahn

“No-one should be upset if we have successful police officers, journalists or photographers from diverse backgrounds.

“I am the son of a bus driver. I want working class children to aim for the stars to become journalists and photographers, or whatever they want to be, because in the long run it is not a zero sum game and will benefit us all.”

Among the proposals expected to feature in the manifesto include targets for the number of women and ethnic minorities on company boards.

Labour has said it wants to see the same progress on ethnic diversity as has been seen on gender inequality. The party is expected to launch a review on the issue as soon as it gets into power.

It follows the release of recent figures which show more than half of FTSE 100 companies have no non-white directors and two-thirds no full-time minority executives at board level.

Mr Khan, who ran Ed Miliband’s leadership campaign and represents the ethnically diverse London seat of Tooting, wants to see a similar shake-up of the judiciary with a ”root and branch reform” and changes to the way judges are appointed.

He also wants to reform the civil service and introduce quotas for women and black and ethnic minority fast-track appointments.

“The fast-track civil service is full of white Oxbridge candidates so we need to change the civil service as well,” Mr Khan said.

“The civil service is there whether the Government is Tory, Labour or a Coalition.

“If we can change the face of the civil service and mainstream this issue, it would make such a difference.”

Post Was Ed Miliband's father a KGB stooge? (cont)

The lack-lustre British general election campaign has been spiced up somewhat with the news of a link between a party leader and one of the greatest murderers of the twentieth century Genrikh Yagoda.

According to the Daily Mail, the Liberal Democrat party leader Nick Clegg — who was the Deputy Prime Minister — had an aunt in twenties Moscow who was a Mata Hari-type spy who spread her favours far and wide in the cause of whoever was paying her; entrapping and compromising various paramours including British diplomats and Soviet big wigs.

The Mail alleges that Baroness Moura Budberg worked for the genocidal Jewish Bolshevik Yagoda and may have been one of his sexual conquests. Yagoda was the director of the NKVD during its most bloodthirsty period in the thirties when many millions of ethnic Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians and many others were liquidated at his hands.

Jewish ethnicity may have been one of the factors that Clegg’s aunt and Yagoda had in common as Jews who were a tiny fraction of the Russian population, predominated at the top end of Bolshevik society. They were particularly thick on the ground in the ruthless security apparatus and there has been continued speculation that their genocidal ruthlessness was fuelled by ethnic hatred of Whites.

Thanks to the Toronto Globe and Mail we now know that Nick Clegg is a cousin of the Canadian Liberal Party leader — and ethnic Jew — Michael Ignatieff. The Huffington Post has described Clegg’s family background as “shrouded in mystery” although it is heavily Dutch and Russian aristocratic.

This would mean that this is the first British general election where all three candidates for the prime minister’s post have varying strong degrees of Jewish antecedence. The incumbent prime minister David Cameron has already boasted of his strong Jewish roots to no less than the Knesset.

But in many ways it is the Jewish roots of Cameron’s closest rival Ed Miliband which are most intriguing. Unlike the other two, Miliband is fully ethnically Jewish and boasts an impressive family pedigree with roots that go deep into Britain’s Marxist world.

Was Ed Miliband’s Trotskyist grandfather involved in the liquidation of White Russians who were opposed to communism? This intriguing question was asked by one of Vladimir Putin’s closest advisors eight years ago and has never been satisfactorily answered. Kremlin insider Geb Pavlovsky even said that Ed Miliband may have “inherited” his hatred of Russia from his Polish-born grandfather Samuel.

The Milibands have always played down their family’s Bolshevik past and instead preferred to talk about the dozens of family members from the Polish side who died in the Holocaust. Ed Miliband has always been keen to play up this part of the family history

TOO has already asked whether Ed Miliband’s father Ralph himself was a KGB stooge or whether he just liked the company of KGB agents. There is no question that in the sixties, intellectual Ralph Miliband moved in the same circles as many Marxist Jews of Russian background. There is equally no question that Britain’s security services were deeply concerned because of their KGB links, especially abouty a Russian attache called “Lev”, a frequent visitor to the Miliband Hampstead home who was not slow to throw money and gifts around when it came to getting what he wanted. David Horowitz remembers a ham-fisted attempt to recruit him in the sixties.

In the end this is all history and is overshadowed by one simple salient fact — the Friends of Israel lobby groups are the most powerful in British politics and eighty per cent of Conservative MPs are members of Conservative Friends of Israel.

Post LOL ? Even Jews Don't Like Jew Labour Party Leader Ed Miliband

Ed Miliband is such a horrible person that even his own people don’t like him. Many Jews in Britain are planning not to support him despite the fact that he’s a fellow tribe member. With that said, this guy must really suck.

That’s OK for the Jews though, they can vote for David Cameron who brags about being a 1/8th Jew and promotes pro-Jewish policies any way.

From Haaretz:

The poll published last week in the Jewish Chronicle indicating that in Britain’s general elections next month an overwhelming majority of Jews are planning to vote for the ruling Conservative Party, rather than for Labour under the leadership of the man who could become the United Kingdom’s first Jewish prime minister, Ed Miliband, was not surprising. The dissatisfaction with Miliband, practically since he was elected Labour’s leader in 2010, has been evident. What was surprising was the huge margin – 69 percent of Jews questioned in the survey carried out by polling company Survation said they were going to vote for David Cameron’s Tories, while only 22 percent are siding with Labour.

Most of Labour’s many prominent Jewish members and supporters remained silent over the poll. Those activists who did take to social media were quick to cast aspersions on the poll’s methodology and to say that when out canvassing in the North London neighborhoods with large Jewish populations, they were getting a positive and friendly reception. Both points are valid.

Post Bookies now say communist Jew Ed Miliband is most likely to take power in the UK

The bookmakers’ PaddyPower now has Ed Miliband at 5/6 odds, with David Cameron trailing behind on 10/11.

Despite the Tories failing to open up a sustained lead against Labour, Mr Miliband’s low personal ratings have convinced many watchers that Labour will not win the election.

Labour’s poll ratings have been in front of the Conservatives’ for the vast majority of this parliament, with the two parties now broadly neck-and-neck.

Mr Miliband has also seen a steady uptick in his personal scores since the start of the official campaign season.

With this in mind, this is the first time during the campaign that Mr Miliband has been seen as the most likely victor after the election.

The bookies also have Mayor of London Boris Johnson in third place at 35/1.

Mr Johnson is standing as an MP at the election and in theory could become leader before a government was formed if David Cameron were to resign.

The latest poll is a Guardian/ICM survey showing the Conservatives with a narrow lead over Labour by 34% to 32%. The Liberal Democrats at on 10%, Ukip on 11% and the Green Party on 5%.

The SNP are likely to gain a large proportion of Scotland’s seats if local polling in Scotland is replicated on polling day.

The survey results would be unlikely to lead to a majority for either party and would probably leave Labour and the Conservatives roughly neck-and-neck, reliant on support of small parties.

Post Tory council candidate: I'd never support 'the Jew' Miliband

A Tory council candidate has said she would never support “the Jew” in an apparent reference to Ed Miliband.

Gulzabeen Afsal, who is standing in Derby, made the remarks in a Facebook exchange yesterday.

She wrote: “Just can’t take Mr Ed Miiband seriously!! DC has what it takes to be the future PM.”

When another user suggested she should show some respect “for the future PM”, Afsal replied: “Nah bro! never ever will I drop that low and support the al yahud [Arabic for Jew] lol.”

It marks the first time Miliband’s religion had been raised by a candidate seeking office during this election campaign.

A spokesman for Derby Labour Party added: “With anti-semitism on the rise across Europe it is abhorrent and terrifying that a prospective Conservative politician would say something like this.

“Derby Conservatives should launch an immediate investigation into this incident and take the appropriate action. Derby must be free from prejudice, especially from those seeking elected office.”

Jay Stoll, of the Jewish Leadership Council, said: “This is clearly unacceptable and the relevant authorities should investigate this matter swiftly.”

A Conservative spokesman said: “Her comment was offensive and wrong. She has removed it and apologised.”

the joe lokalike has exploited his jewish origins for favourable publicity during this election campaign. Such is the fucked up state of affairs in the UK that he emphasised his alien origins confident that it would count in his favour. For final proof that the UK is fucked, another alien aligned to the Islamic killers is the only mainstream politician to have made his alien origins a reason for opposing the joe.

The Conservative party said her comment was "offensive and wrong" and a full disciplinary hearing would follow.

She also said she supports David Cameron.
He is another jew/Anglican.
The paki bird don't know her jew arse from her jew elbow.

“We oppose the Israeli incursion into Gaza,” Miliband said. “I don’t think it will help win Israel friends. I don’t think this will make the situation better. I fear it will make it worse.”

By contrast, Cameron said Israel was defending itself. “I’ve been clear throughout this crisis that Israel has the right to defend itself,” he said.

The report then goes on to mention the 500 Palestinian murderers killed by brave little Israel.
The United Nations report the civilian deaths at way over 2,000 Palestinians and 5 jews with at least 10,500 Palestinian civilians wounded.
96,000 Palestinian homes hit by Israeli military attacks 7,000 of them completely destroyed.
