Bosnian Muslim town griped by rape, violence

January 8, 2011 – 3:41 am

Bosnian Muslim town of Tuzla is convulsing in a grip of violence and rape after several young females have been ganged raped by multitude of Muslims.

On New Years Eve, a 19 year old student was gang raped by 2 armed men, just a day later after another one was also ganged raped at a gun point. Later, 3 unknown men ganged raped another female after they got hold of her on the streets.

Before these new year rapes, a 25-year old Muslim, Samel Catic, raped a 50-year old woman in the city then stabbed her 15-year old son in the back.

Then, 4 men kidnapped a guy and his girlfriend, then took his girl to the village of Pasci where they ganged raped her.

In Tuzla’s Shi Village area, a 29-year old female was assaulted then raped by a 34 year old man while another Muslim from Montenegro came to Tuzla and raped a married woman.

A 73-year old Tuzla man was arrested after a 13 year old girl delivered a baby that was conceived after the old man raped the child.

Some in the media are accusing Tuzla’s prosecutors for hushing up the incidents while accusing the city’s police commissar, Nedim Mutapcic, of deliberate neglect accusing him of being a drunkard and a gambler citing his frequent drinking bouts at a bar near Madrasa in the city’s center.

Muslim political party, BOSS, has issued a communique in which it says that Tuzla is in the state of lawlessness and that the power of the city is held by organized criminal groups that are victimizing the the public and raping women at random.

The Association of Muslim women of Tuzla and several other groups are planning a “spontaneous” demonstration on the streets of Tuzla against rape.

The protest, titled “I’m Afraid!” is scheduled for Sunday.

Earlier in 2010, 7 Muslim men held an underage female as sexual slave and raped her for days on end. The men brought in an 11-year old boy to show him “how it’s done”.

In 2009, Tuzla’s ”respected” politician and a “businessman” friend had an orgy with a 13-year old girl.

Back in 2007, Tuzla was a scene of a violent gang rape of a 12 year old female by two men who kidnapped the child, captured another female, then proceeded to rape them for hours while recording the orgy on their cell phones.

Bosnia is experiencing a tremendous escalation of all sorts of gruesome violence and criminals are using inventive ways to kill their victims.

Bosnian mosques targeted with arson attacks

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Interior Ministry said Saturday several of the country’s mosques came under arson attacks recently.

The ministry declined, in a statement issued here, to blame the attacks on any political party.

The statement said investigation conducted by security authorities did not identify yet any clue to the perpetrators of the campaign on mosques.

The ministry also warned against any internal sectarian violence which could lead to destabilization of the country, cautioning all to be vigilant and patient until the investigation concludes.

In recent days, several mosques in the country, including an old mosque in the Bosnian capital city of Sarajevo, have been the target of molotov cocktail attacks.

JEDDAH: IDB Group President Ahmad Mohamed Ali has invited the business communities from IDB member countries to take part in the Sarajevo Business Forum 2011 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The forum, being held from April 6 to 8 with the support of Bakir Izetbegovic, member of the Presidency of the Bosnia & Herzegovina, will offer businessmen an opportunity to network and establish business relations with their counterparts in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro and Macedonia, Ali told a press conference organized on the sidelines of Jeddah Economic Forum at the Jeddah Hilton on Monday.

Saleh Kamel, chairman of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and Adil A. Bushnak, chairman of Bushnak Group, were also present.
Ali said the IDB Group was already involved in various projects including real estate in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The forum, organized by Bosna Bank International (BBI) VIP Business Club and IDB Group (Thiqah-Islamic Development Bank Group Business Forum) with the strategic partnership of Global Alliance for Partnership in International Development (GAPID) and Bushnak Group, will mainly focus on infrastructure sectors, energy, agriculture, tourism, financial industry and educational services, Bushnak said.
Ali pointed out that the IDB Group’s role in encouraging investment and developing private sector to stimulate economic growth in member countries and Muslim communities in non-member countries reflects one of the main thrusts of the IDB Group Vision 2020.

The group within its specialized vehicles – the Islamic Corporation for the Development of Private Sector (ICD), the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC) and the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) – provides integrated services in the areas of finance, insurance of investment, encouragement of export, and technical and advisory assistance to uphold the role of the private sector in achieving socioeconomic development in member countries.
Saudi private sector investors see Bosnia and Herzegovina as a lucrative area for investment.
Saudi investors have around 150 million euros worth of investment in Bosnia and Herzegovina in various fields, Kamel said.

Explosives found at Bosnian Muslim arrest

June 6, 2011 – 7:01 am

Explosives, bomb activation mechanisms, military equipment and Arabic-language Jihad literature was uncovered at the home of the arrested Bosnian Muslim extremist leader in the city of Brcko.

The arrested Bosnian Muslim, Adnan Recica, held 4 kilos of TNT explosives, 300 grams of plastic explosives and Motorola-branded explosive activation devices inside his home.

Recica was arrested on Sunday during a raid on his house. The authorities have also found a drug laboratory inside his home.

“We found the capacity for making drugs and explosives. The action was done after a prolonged planning,” an unnamed arresting official was quoted as saying by the Bosnian Muslim media outlet Dnevni Avaz.

Western media often claims that the Bosnian Muslims are non-radical and allegedly moderate. Many members of al-Qaeda have had war experience inside the Bosnian Muslim military during the 1990s war.

Recica’s neighbors have told the media that they are shocked.

Bosnian musical ensemble celebrates İstanbul's conquest

The choir's founder and arts director, Mehmet Bajraktarevic, said he was very proud to be in İstanbul for such an important occasion.

The Sultan Mehmed Fatih Ensemble, a Sarajevo-based choir, was at İstanbul's historic Aya İrini Museum on May 29 to mark the 558th anniversary of the conquest of İstanbul by the Ottomans in 1453, marking the end of the Byzantine era. The choir performed a number of İlahis, or Muslim hymns, during the concert, which was organized by Turkey's state-owned Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT).

The choir's founder and arts director, Mehmet Bajraktarevic, said he was very proud to be in İstanbul for such an important occasion. "During my 35-year career, I've directed many concerts throughout Europe, but this is the most significant task that I have been given. I am honored that Sultan Mehmed Fatih was chosen to perform at Aya İrini on such an important day in history. This is by far the 'trophy of my career'," he said, adding that he was delighted to have been invited to perform at Aya İrini by TRT

The performance at Aya İrini marked Sultan Mehmed Fatih's ninth appearance in Turkey in seven years. "We are always excited to perform in Turkey. We are respected here, and our talent is recognized. While in our own country, Bosnia, people are not interested in our choir, or our İlahis. It saddens me, but it is a harsh reality," Bajraktarevic said ruefully.

The choir director also shared information on the background of the choir. Formed in 2004, the ensemble is made up of nine pedagogues and 100 vocalists of varying age groups. "Sultan Mehmed Fatih has two generations of vocalists. We even have a mother and a daughter singing together," Bajraktarevic said.

The choir was invited to perform on the anniversary of İstanbul's conquest, after the general director of TRT, İbrahim Şahin, discovered the ensemble at a concert during a random visit to Bosnia. The ensemble is made up of different choirs from Bosnia and Turkey such as the Choir Dzulistan from Novi Pazar, Serbia. The ensemble's popular repertoire consists of songs in several different languages, including Persian, Turkish, Bosnian and Arabic, with a unique blend of Western and Balkan influences and traditions.

Mufti: Bosniaks won’t accept aggression against them

Source: Tanjug

NOVI PAZAR -- Islamic Community in Serbia Chief Mufti Muamer Zukorlić has stated that Sandžak Bosniaks will never come to terms with the aggression against them.

Addressing the believers, who gathered at iftar – the first meal eaten by Muslims after sunset during Ramadan, he said that the religious community would never come to terms with injustice toward the Islamic religious teaching and robbery of waqf (Islamic endowment) property.

He called on all Bosniaks to stay united, adding that they only accepted Allah as their master.

Zukorlić said that “this is our response to the injustice, oppression and discrimination against us by the oppressors, aimed at returning us in the past century when we were not allowed to say who and what we are”.

He stressed that there had been attempts to bring Bosniaks into submission by “force and even by violating the laws”.

Bosnia-Herzegovina Reis-ul-Ulema Mustafa Cerić attended the iftar and told the believers that he felt at home in Sandžak, among his people. Earlier on Friday Cerić issued a fatwa (a religious order), calling on all Bosniaks to stay united and take care of each other.

“Here in the Balkans we have, just like all other people, the right to have our state, freedom, safety, religion, nation and home that series of generations will live in and not like now when every generation had to move at least twice,” he pointed out.

Cerić added that the Bosniaks had no fear at all because they “have survived everything they could possibly survive, including genocide”.

Pointing out that this was crucial time for the Bosniaks, he said that they did not wish anyone harm and that they would stick together for their own sake.

“The time has finally come to think about ourselves,” he told the citizens.

Islam religion of peace, mufti says

Source: Tanjug

BELGRADE -- Islamic Community of Serbia Mufti Muhamed Jusufspahić has called on Muslims to do their best to prevent “the plague of terrorism”.

Muhamed Jusufspahić

Commenting on the Friday attack on the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, he said that Islam was a religion of peace, just like all other religions that preached peace.

“Peace with god means peace among people,” Jusufspahić told Tanjug.

Member of the radical Islamic Wahhabi movement Melvid Jašarević fired shots at the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo on Friday.

Serbian police arrested 15 persons suspected of being members of the Wahhabi movement in Serbia on Saturday morning.

Turkey Resurgent

Aug 28, 2012

By Srdja Trifkovic |

Almost a year has passed since we last took note of Turkey’s increasing clout in three key areas of neo-Ottoman expansion: the Balkans, the Arab world, and the predominantly Muslim regions of the former Soviet Union. Each has played a significant part in reshaping the geopolitics of the Greater Middle East over the past decade. This complex project, which remains under-reported in the Western media and denied or ignored by policy-makers in Washington, is going well for Prime Minister Rejep Tayyip Erdoğan and his AKP (Justice and Development Party).

On the external front, Ankara’s decision to support the uprising against Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria has changed the equation in the region. Until last spring, Erdoğan’s team was advising Bashar to follow the path of political and economic reform in order to avoid descent into violent anarchy. Within months, however, Turkey has become a key player in Washington’s regime-change strategy by not only providing operational bases and supply channels to the rebels, but by simultaneously confronting Iran over Syria. The war of words between them is escalating. Earlier this week, Iranian Chief of Staff General Hassan Firousabadi accused Turkey of assisting the “war-waging goals of America. The AKP government has reinforced Turkey’s old position as a key U.S. regional partner. It is skillfully pursuing its distinct regional objectives, which in the long run are bound to collide with those of the U.S., while appearing to act at the behest of Washington and revamping its Cold War role as a reliable NATO-“Western” outpost in the region.

This newly gained credit has enabled Erdoğan to make a series of problematic moves with impunity, the most notable being Turkey’s growing support for Hamas in the Palestinian Authority and its treatment of Iraq as a state with de facto limited sovereignty. In a highly publicized symbolic gesture, on July 24 Erdoğan met Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal at his official residence to break the daily fast during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan. Ties between Turkey and Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, have blossomed since Turkey’s alliance with Israel collapsed following a raid by Israeli troops on a Turkish aid ship bound for Gaza in 2010. At the same time, Ankara’s links with the more moderate Fatah movement, which rules the West Bank, are at a standstill; Turkey wants Hamas to prevail in the Palestinian power struggle.

In northern Iraq, Turkey has developed close relations with the Kurdish leadership in Kirkuk. It has made significant investments in the autonomous Iraqi Kurdish region as a means of exerting political influence and thus preempting demands for full independence, which could have serious implications for the Kurdish minority in eastern Turkey. In an audacious display of assertiveness, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited the Kurdish-ruled northern Iraq earlier this month without notifying the government in Baghdad, let alone seeking its approval. Turning the putative Kurdish statelet in Iraq into its client is a major coup for the government in Ankara. The partnership is based on the common interest of denying the Marxist PKK guerrillas a foothold on either side of the border. In a joint statement, Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan warned the PKK that they would act jointly to counter any attempt to exploit the power vacuum in Syria. Another far-reaching albeit unstated common goal is to provide Iraq’s Kurds with a potential northwestern route for their oil and gas exports, which Al Maliki’s central government would not be able to control. The net effect is likely to be further weakening of an already unstable Iraq in the aftermath of U.S. withdrawal; yet Washington appears unperturbed by Turkey’s gambit. It is apparently unaware of the fact that, in Ankara’s worldview, “nothing can stand in the way of its dream of becoming the ultimate energy bridge between East and West.”

The Obama Administration has been equally indifferent to Prime Minister Erdoğan’s trouble-making in the Balkans. Most recently, his provocative statement last month that Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the “care” of his country has caused no reaction in Washington. “Bosnia and Herzegovina is entrusted to us,” stated Erdoğan during a meeting of Justice and Development Party (AK Party) provincial heads held in Ankara on July 11, recalling the alleged statement of the late Bosnian Muslim leader, Alija Izetbegović, whom Erdoğan visited on his deathbed in Sarajevo. “He whispered in my ear these phrases: ‘Bosnia is entrusted to you [Turkey]. These places are what remain of the Ottoman Empire’,” said Erdoğan. He went on to describe Izetbegović as “a legendary hero and captain,” and to declare that Turkey would “put this trust in God with high precision.”

The notion of Bosnia and Herzegovina being given as a ‘trust’ to Turkey in the name of its Ottoman legacy reflects an earlier statement by the outgoing leader of the Islamic community in Bosnia, Efendi Mustafa Cerić, who told Erdoğan that “Turkey is our Mother. That’s how it was always, and it will remain like that.” Erdoğan’s latest outburst was immediately welcomed by the leader of the biggest Muslim party in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sulejman Tihić.

The notion that Bosnia has been bequeathed by its fundamentalist Muslim leader to the Turkish state is unsurprisingly anathema to the non-Muslim majority of Bosnia’s citizens. “Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a land to be inherited,” said Igor Radojičić, the Bosnian Serb Parliament speaker. Bosnian Croat leader Dragan Čović expressed puzzlement that Izetbegović could imagine Bosnia was his to give away as a trust. Analysts outside Bosnia also expressed outrage. Serbian historian Čedomir Antić, called the statement “an unprecedented provocation” that should be “officially renounced by Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia”. Professor Darko Tanasković, Serbia’s former ambassador to Turkey, was not surprised, however. The statement represents a political reality, he said, that Turkey sees the Balkans as a priority in its ambitious foreign policy.

Three months earlier the leader of the Islamic Community in Montenegro (Islamska zajednica Crne Gore, IZCG), Reis Rifat Fejzić, signed an agreement with the authorities in Podgorica on the status of the Muslim minority there. The Agreement stipulates that any disputes within the Islamic Community will be referred for arbitration to the Directorate of Religious Affairs of the Turkish Republic (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı). This is a remarkable development: the Republic of Montegnegro—a sovereign, non-Muslim Balkan state—has formally granted decision-making powers in matters affecting some of its citizens to an institution of another sovereign and nominally still secular state. Imam Fejzić’s explanation added an interesting twist to the story. Some disputes among Roman Catholics are referred to the Vatican, he said, so it is normal for Muslim disputes to be referred to Ankara. In other words, the Turkish state is to assume the role of an Islamic Vatican for the Muslim millets of the former Ottoman Empire. The Montenegrin precedent is the model Ankara will seek to apply elsewhere. Turkish politicians have already taken an active role in mediating between the rival factions of the Muslim religious and political establishment in Serbia’s Sanjak region.

The U.S. is sympathetic to Turkey’s Balkan ambitions not only because they seem to fit in with a Western strategy of long standing, but also because Turkey is seen as a counterweight to Iran’s influence in the region. As John Schindler, the author of the seminal book Unholy Terror pointed out recently, the close relationship between leading circles in Sarajevo and Tehran harks back to before the Bosnian war. During the war the Clinton Administration aided and abetted Iranian deliveries of arms to the Bosnian Muslim side, and the SDA has always had a soft spot for Tehran. Now, however, with a potential war with Iran looming, Schindler says, the U.S. and its European allies, who have done so much to help the Bosnian Muslims for a generation, have had enough. As reported by the Sarajevo daily Dnevni avaz, last week Patrick Moon and Nigel Casey, the American and British ambassadors to BiH, jointly read the riot act to Sadik Ahmetović, the country’s powerful security minister, telling him that the SDA and Sarajevo must sever their secret ties—espionage, political, financial—with Tehran:

Sarajevo officially has been given a warning to reset its course in a European and Western direction as war with Iran looms. Hard decisions will have to be made by the SDA. They have been repeatedly deferred for nearly two decades but can be avoided no longer. If the Bosnian Muslims opt to stick with Iran as tensions rise, the ramifications for them and all Europe may be dire indeed.

Bosnia’s Muslims, ever mindful of the need for foreign support in their disputes with the country’s Serbs and Croats, will likely opt for even closer links with Ankara to compensate for an eventual weakening of the Iranian connection —and they will do so with Washington’s approval. Yet again Turkey will strengthen its position in the Balkans while relying on the Western powers to do its field work.

At home, the parallel process of re-Islamization of the Turkish state and society is well-nigh-irreversible. The Army has been decisively neutralized as a political factor. Last February, Erdogan declared that it is not the goal of the AKP government to raise atheist generations, and he certainly has been true to his word. Earlier this month, Turkey’s Board of Higher Education appointed Islamic scholar Suleyman Necati Akcesme as its secretary-general. His duties will include appointing professors and rectors, as well as overseeing universities. Akcesme will occupy a position of direct influence over Turkey’s higher education —unimaginable for an imam in the old Kemalist setup. The influence of the shadowy Gülen Movement, a fundamentalist sect calling for a New Islamic Age based on the “Turkish-Islamic Synthesis,” is becoming all-pervasive, with rich businessmen and senior civil servants donating an average of 10 percent of their income to the cemaat. According to the August 8 issue of Der Spiegel,

Gülen’s influence in Turkey was enhanced when … the AKP won the Turkish parliamentary election in 2002. Observers believe that the two camps entered into a strategic partnership at first, with Gülen providing the AKP with votes while Erdogan protected the cemaat. According to information obtained by US diplomats, almost a fifth of the AKP’s members of parliament were members of the Gülen movement in 2004, including the justice and culture ministers. Many civil servants act at the behest of the “Gülen brothers,” says a former senior member… In 2006, former police chief Adil Serdar Sacan estimated that the Fethullahcis held more than 80 percent of senior positions in the Turkish police force . . .

Sharia-inspired legislation is affecting the society at large. Turkey’s recent laws and taxes on alcohol sales are more rigorous than those in Egypt or Tunisia before last year’s revolutions. Employers are now authorized to fire any employer who comes to work having had a drink, as opposed to being drunk. Having a single glass of raki, wine or beer with lunch—perfectly common in the business community until a few months ago—may now abruptly end a career. More troublingly, Turkey now leads the world in “honor killings” of girls, with a murder rate five times that of Pakistan. As Turkish affairs expert Barry Rubin has noted, many Turks are astounded by Obama’s policy of favoring the current regime in Ankara: “the regime has thrown hundreds of people in prison without trial or evidence… and it is turning Turkey into a repressive police state,” yet the Department of State and the White House remain indifferent. Turkey’s secularists feel abandoned and betrayed.

Turkey’s shift from Kemalism via post-Kemalism to anti-Kemalism is a process of historic significance for the Greater Middle East. In 2005 senior State Department official Daniel Fried declared, absurdly, that Erdoğan’s AKP was simply the Islamic equivalent of a West European Christian Democratic party and that Turkey remains a staunch ally of the United States. The diagnosis was evidently mistaken seven years ago. Today it amounts to an unforgivable act of willful self-deception.

In the meantime Secretary of State Hillary Clinton prepares for discussions in Istanbul on August 11 that will focus on forming a “common operational picture” with the Turks “to guide a democratic transition in post-Assad Syria.”

Radical Islamist leader threatens Serbia

Source: Beta

BUCHAREST -- Radical Islamist leader Omar Bakri has warned that terrorist attacks would be launched against Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, and other countries in the region.

The reason for this, the Syria-born extremist told Bulgaria's newspaper 24 Chasa, is that those were "territories that belong to Islam".

Bakri further explained: "When Islam enters a territory, it becomes Islamic, therefore Islam is under obligation to eventually liberate it."

The Mediafax news agency is also reporting that he listed all "Muslim territories" as follows: "Spain, Bulgaria, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo and Bosnia":

"Spain, for instance, is a Muslim territory. Eastern Europe as well. Romania, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, Bosnia... but due to its decision to send troops to Afghanistan and Iraq and its military cooperation with Israel, Bulgaria is also a legitimate target."

Bakri, who lived in London for 20 years, has been banned from returning to Britain after he left the country in the wake of the terrorist attacks in July 2005. He is considered to have "strong ties with Al Qaeda".

Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean reacted to the statements by saying that his was "primarily a Christian country", and that "there was no need to comment on various statements that have nothing to do with reality".

However, this official noted that Romania took on various strategic projects, such as NATO's missile defense shield, and that it was a strategic partner to the U.S. and NATO that planned on remaining "a faithful ally, regardless of risks".

Violent Islam a ticking time-bomb in Kosovo says Vienna paper, misplaces blame on poverty.

Radical Islam is "a ticking bomb" in Kosovo

VIENNA - Kosovo, due to growing poverty and unemployment, is faced with the strengthening of radical Islam, estimated Vienna daily "Standard", indicating that members of this religion require greater rights and thus provoke counter reaction of secular citizens.

Paper reported Friday that the main mosque in Pristina was full, and the Hodja preaches that "the enemies of Allah deceive young Muslims," stating that it has a detrimental effect, as well as alcohol and drugs, and that they aim to stop the forces of Islam.

Indirect result of the conflict in Kosovo is stricter form of Islam, which attracts converts from all over, says "Standard", adding that strengthening the group questions the traditions and requirements of a society that was more defined and the Albanian people belonging more pro american than Islamic faith.

Hardlajneri and religious conservatives, who until 1999. were completely unknown, today although small, are constantly growing and visible group, especially in major cities and some poor parts of Kosovo.

The security forces, according to "Standard" reported that the stricter form of faith after the war increasingly common as a result of the arrival of Islamic charities in Kosovo and representatives of religious education in the Arab countries. They estimate that there are currently in Kosovo has around 50,000 supporters of conservative Islam.

Some imams and converts attracted the attention of K-enforcement officials, as a new generation of religious conservatives believe that Kosovo's secular constitution discriminates against believers, and they demand to "loosen" the law that bans religious symbols in public schools, and women to wear headscarves.

"If someone claims to enjoy freedom of religion then it is not true," said Sh Krasniqi, Hodja in the main mosque in Pristina, who said that Muslims demand the same rights as those of their believers in London or the U.S..

Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi says, however, that until now doubts about the human rights act to prevent against Islamic hardlajnera. He explained that during his tenure as Prime Minister, nine years ago, was trying to pass a law against radical sects, but to prevent the "internationals", UNMIK officials.

Behxhet Shala, the head of an organization for the protection of human rights in Kosovo, said that the UN and the EU have underestimated the danger of extremism. "Today there are internationals, but they will come back, and leave us with a ticking bomb," he said, adding that poverty and porous borders make Kosovo a breeding ground for radicalism.

"Standard" reminds us that the majority of Kosovo's Muslims, who live the faith in a relatively relaxed manner, marked by the Ottoman and Sufi mystic tradition.

Hardlajneri, it seems, are more marked in the Arab interpretation of the faith, and they themselves say that the defenders of the faith and oppose the penetration of Western secularism in Kosovo.

Representative Baškohu movement, which supports public protests and nonviolent resistance, Fuad Ramići believes that "democracy can not be imposed if the state secularism." Ramići was fighting in Bosnia and was on board the Mavi Marmara, which was carrying aid to Palestinians when the Israeli army stopped the ship by force.

"Standard" indicates that there is an attack on critics of extremist Islam, stating that Musli Vërbani, former Hodja in Kacanik, warned in a sermon 2007th your city on the dangers of extremism.

Shortly after that, his car was set on fire, and a man from the region's only January 2011. sentenced to three months in prison. Other attacks against people who pointed extremism remained unpunished.

Professor of the University of Pristina for Islamic Studies Jabir Hamidi in 2008. attacked by masked men. He believes he was attacked because the Wahhabi opponent.

Osman Musliu, Hodja from Drenica, in 2009. beaten in a mosque. "I lost consciousness and my broken one Druk. I have always spoken against the Wahhabis, "he relayed.

A senior police officer, who asked not to be named, said that at that time there was not enough evidence to be prosecuted for attacking Hamidi and Musliu.

Attacked, criticized the reaction of the Islamic community was insufficient, and that the institution should continue to condemn sharper attacks on its members.

Neo-Ottoman influence on a strong pace in the Balkans

Feb 3, 2013

By Ioannis Michaletos | The direction of the Turkish policy over the past decade is steadily moving on to a distinct Neo-Ottoman path, which is characterized in most respects by a re-introduction in the political and social life of the region, of long-forgotten norms and mentalities of the Ottoman Empire. In that respect, Islam of Turkish-Sunni nature plays a leading role.

It is of interest to note that the Neo-Ottoman policy is firmly rooted in a pyramid-like social stratum structure, as envisaged by Ankara which has a large base of mostly Muslim illegal immigrants in the Balkan countries, a medium stratum composed by the local Muslim minorities, often of Turkish descent and an upper crust of newly converted Muslims, coming from the indigenous Christian populations, in a reminiscent of the “Janissary”.

In order for this long-term aim to be achieved, cultural and religious tactics are being promoted, financed and implemented in the Balkans, that aim to portray first and foremost the era of the Ottoman Empire as a “Golden era”, where various sophisticated forms of art and literature where achieved, under the protection and guidance of the Istanbul Sultan. In essence a typical “public diplomacy” mechanism is being implemented, which is firmly based on history and coupled with a heavy flow of financial donations and support to “willing” organizations and individuals across the region.

Updates

The general directory of the historical monuments of Turkey, recently decided to finance the restoration of the monument in the city of Bitola in FYROM, named Haidar-Kadi Mosque, which dates back in the 16th century and currently belongs in the local Islamic Mufti. The sub-director of the Turkish agency, named
Ali Gurata proceeded into singing a relevant agreement with Mehmet Salman the director of restoration of the national center of Skopje.

Guarata, stated that ” The Mosque of Bitola is the second in a series of restorations, following the one of Sarajevo…in the Balkans cultural values that date back from the Ottoman era should be protected…our agency protects not only Islamic monuments but also Christian and Jewish”.

Furthermore in mid-2012 the Mosque of Konya in Turkey financed another two Ottoman-era monuments in the city of Tetovo. The Mayor of the city Bexheti stated that there will be a restoration for a watch-tower, and a stone bridge in the Rena River. Both of these sites date back in the 16th Century.

Another interesting note in the subject is the donation announcement in November 2012 by the Turkish government for the creation of a museum in Skopje in commemoration of Kemal Ataturk. The assistance for that purpose amounts to 300,000 USD and the representative of the Turkish organization TIKA, stated that “I would like to thank the government of Skopje for its also generous support towards securing our nations common cultural legacy”, clearly implying that the local government also financed by its own means this project. The main purpose of this museum would be to attract Turkish tourists in Skopje and already since 1994 another smaller-scale project of similar nature was undertaken by the Turkish government regarding Kemal Ataturk in that city.

At that point it is interesting to note that the leader of the local Islamic community of Skopje, Suleiman Rexhepi, stated in late 2012 in the newspaper Journal that the Albanian Muslims should work towards the goal of “Greater Albania”. Those statements come almost in parallel with similar series of statements from Albanian leaders and most notably Salim Berisha the Prime Minister of the country. At the same time the people aforementioned, along with a large number of Albanian public figures in FYROM, seem to enjoy cordial relations with the Turkish diplomacy, thus raising serious questions, as to whether local political life has been controlled to a great extent by Ankara, that would have the capabilities to “Make or break” the country, thus influencing both its domestic political life and also its foreign relations.

The Neo-Ottoman influence, coupled with the also all-intruding presence of Salafi Islamists in the Balkans, has also resulted in direct involvement of local Muslims with the Syrian civil war. According to an Albanian newspaper in Kosovo in early December 2012, religious extremists from Skopje, Kosovo and Albania, are taking part in the armed clashes against the Syrian states. They take videos of their involvement in Syria and sent it back to their homelands.

Small military groups of these young Albanian men have been composed named “XHEBHETUL NUSRE” and “Të huajve të Shamit” – PRISHTINA”. Up to date there was an official one casualty of Naman Demolli, resident of Pristina born in 1974. It is not by coincidence that this particular person was one of the organizers in the 2011 demonstration in the University of Pristina that called for the creation of a large Mosque in the city and in particular in the premise of the University campus, a move that was supported by the Turkish diplomacy at that time.

In similar fashion, all available and credible information point out that the Albanian Islamic groups venturing into Syria have all passed and stayed temporarily in Istanbul before venturing in the Turkish-Syrian borders and consequently in the battle zones that are raging in the latter. A tacit approval by the Turkish security and police forces would be needed for that venture, although that violates clearly all international and local Laws surrounding the activities of either mercenaries or volunteers taking part in armed conflicts in another sovereign state in which there is no declaration of war.

Lastly, the continuous involvement of Turkish public diplomacy in the Balkans has as a consequence the interaction of Middle Eastern politics with those of the Balkans, leading potentially to situations that will have a destabilizing nature for all actors involved.

Bosnian extremist wants to tax non-Muslims

Source: Tanjug

SARAJEVO -- A Bosnian Wahhabi leader was heard calling for a ten-percent tax to be introduced for Serbs and Croats in that country - modeled after Ottoman practices.

Husein Bosnić, aka Bilal

A video was posted on YouTube showing Bužim-based Husein Bosnić, aka Bilal, advocating the type of tax imposed in medieval times on Serbs by the Turks who had invaded and occupied their land.

Bosnić, described as "one of the most popular preachers within the Wahhabi movement", in his sermon, or "hutba", told his followers that they "should not touch the honor or spill the blood of Serbs and Croats" - but only if those Christian nations were "under the framework of Islam".

This Wahabi leader who was last year arrested on charges of terrorism and later released from custody, was further heard stating in the video:

"Their obligations toward the privileges that they have in our society are only to be loyal and to, once a year, if they can, set aside the amount that the khalifa determines, just as the Ottomans determined for Serbs - ten percent."

He also said that "rich people" should give ten percent of their property once a year in order to be "left alone - nobody would touch them and nobody would mobilize them".

At the end of the 44-minute "hutba", Bosnić sent his message that "Islam will enter each home".

Banja Luka-based daily Nezavisne Novine is quoting Duška Majkić, chairwoman of the Joint Commission on Defense and Security of the Parliament of Bosnia-Herzegovina, who said that "as far as security experts are concerned, this is all completely clear":

"The Wahhabis do not respect this system, this state. What he said represents a violation of the Constitution and laws of this country. The police should have already investigated what is happening in those typical communities where they (Wahhabis) live, and if nothing was happening there, then the public could have its peace of mind. However, too many pieces of information are saying that caution is in order."

Security experts commented on the video to say that the Wahhabis aim to "adjust the society to a possible lack of freedom that it will have to live in".

"To be a Muslim of the Bilal Bosnić's kind means to live according a calendar that is 700 years behind. What he said was a menacing message, which brings down the country's constitutional order, but it also advocates in favor of a religious state and discrimination against non-Muslims," terrorism expert Dževad Galijašević was quoted as saying.

Bosnić is no stranger to controversial and threatening "hutbas". The media in Bosnia are quoting one of his earlier statements: "Know it, it has only started to bleed and it will not stop, Allah knows, until the victory of Islam arrives. That means that we must all mobilize and stand in defense of Islam."

Wahhabis growing threat

S. MIŠLJENOVIĆ | 20 February 2013. 20:52 | Comments: 7

Radical Islamists in Bosnia enhancing activities and spread religious hatred, experts in the fight against terrorism

BANjALUKA - members and leaders of the Wahhabis in Bosnia enhance their media appearances and radical message. So, after Bilal Hussein Bosnic, one of the leaders of the Wahhabi community in Bosnia, urged that the Serbs and Croats bring tribute, the right is another gathering of Wahhabism.

The next meeting is scheduled by Wahhabi leader in Tuzla for 25 February. It appears the main leaders of the Wahhabis in Bosnia, Nusret Imamovic from Upper Maoče and Bilal Bosnic. They will hold a public hearing "Perfection Shariah - deleterious effects of democracy."

Such activities in BiH are very dangerous to the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to experts in the fight against terrorism and they warned that security agencies in BiH must react.

Dzevad Galijasevic, an expert in counter-terrorism, said the "news" that the last Wahhabi activities and announcements of new sets a clear message that they want to be part of political life in BiH

- So far we have seen that the Wahhabis to send messages in BiH. Now we have a message that they are in Bosnia, and they want to tailor the organization of BiH by the model. Wahhabi community in BiH definitely, unfortunately, becomes part of political life - says Galijašević.

He goes to them for their objective great support and logistics provided by the Party of Democratic Action.

- Whenever the SDA this is the party of the late Alija Izetbegovic, a muslim criminal who the Americans supported and encouraged to start war in Bosnia in 1992 when he rejected the Carrington–Cutileiro Plan on the advice of Zimmermann has a problem on the political scene in the Federation, but also at the state level, it increases the activity of the Wahhabis - Galijašević said.

According to him, it is interesting that the Wahhabis have decided to hold a rally in Tuzla.

- Members of Wahhabi movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina have so far held meetings in small towns. Now they have decided on Tuzla, which is one of the major cities in Bosnia. This is another proof that the Wahhabis definitely want to send a stronger political message - added Galijašević.

It can be seen from previous posts Wahabi Galijašević says, that they have definitely accepted the political concept of Turkey, as a reference to the Turkish way of tribute in history.

- The solution to the problem of radical Wahhabi action would be actions of security agencies. Such action by the various radical Wahhabi message and sets the action unconstitutional and it is a criminal offense. Now, if the security agencies operating in Bosnia under the law, and they must act to prevent such actions Wahhabis - Galijašević says.

In the RS MUP "News" said that the fight against terrorism is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Interior and to monitor gatherings and spread Wahhabi religious hatred. you have muslim terrorists sitting in the bosnian govt.

- RS police for years, investing in the human and technical resources against terrorism and radicals - say the RS Ministry of Interior

You create a whole grivance industry based on lies about these beasts being victims of genocide, you send the men who were protecting the people from them of to the hague, then you turn around and complain about 'islamic terrorists and wahhabis in Bosnia'.

In Bosnia, Turkey brings back a gentle version of the Ottoman Empire

March 25, 2013 – 12:11 pm
Washington Post By Michael Birnbaum, Published: March 24

SARAJEVO, BOSNIA — Turkey conquered the Balkans five centuries ago. Now Turkish power is making inroads through friendlier means.
Two Turkish-run universities have opened in Bosnia’s Ottoman-influenced capital in recent years, bringing an influx of Turkish students and culture to a predominantly Muslim country still reeling from a brutal ethnic war almost two decades ago.

Turkish investment has expanded across the Balkans, even in Croatia and Serbia, where mostly Christian residents think of the sultans from Constantinople as occupiers, not liberators. Turkey also has helped broker talks between formerly bitter enemies in the Balkans. This growing presence has given Turkey an expanding field of influence in Europe at a time when the country’s prospects of joining the European Union appear dubious.

“Turkish leaders are working at a new Ottoman empire, a gentle one,” said Amir Zukic, the bureau chief of the Turkish Anadolu news agency’s Sarajevo office, which has expanded in recent months. “Turkey, a former regional power, is trying to come back in a big way.”
Turkey’s presence in Bosnia was largely dormant during the more than 40 years that the Balkan country was part of communist Yugoslavia, which was not receptive to Turkish religious and historical influences. But during the mid-1990s, as Yugoslavia fell apart, Turkish aid started flowing to the Muslims who make up about half of Bosnia. Since then, Turkish funding has helped reconstruct Ottoman-era monuments that were targets of ethnically motivated destruction.
Now Turkey’s cultural influence is hard to miss. Turkish dignitaries are frequent visitors to Sarajevo. A grand new Turkish embassy is being built near “sniper alley,” a corridor where, during the three-year siege of the capital city in the war, Bosnian Muslims struggling to go about their daily business were frequently shot at by Serbian snipers stationed on nearby hills. Billboards advertise round-trip flights to Istanbul for the equivalent of $74. And this year, a baroque soap opera based on the life of Suleiman the Magnificent, a 16th-century ruler of the Ottoman Empire, has mesmerized couch potatoes amid Bosnia’s dreary winter.
Student exchange
The biggest outposts in Bosnia have been the two Turkish-backed universities, which have mostly Turkish students.
At the International University of Sarajevo, students who enter the main door of the sunny building that opened two years ago have to pass under the watchful eye of Sultan Meh*med the Conqueror, the Ottoman ruler who introduced Islam to Bosnia in 1463. The private university is backed by Turkish businessmen who are close to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s political party. The school started in 2004 and has grown to 1,500 students. It is shooting for 5,000, the capacity of its new building.

Classes are held in English, and there is a Western curriculum heavy on practical subjects such as business and engineering. But both Turkish and Bosnian students say that part of the attraction of the school is the cultural exchange that takes place. Each cohort has to learn the other’s language.
Administrators are transparent about the school’s ambitions.

“The Turks are attracted to come here because they believe that Bosnia, for all its problems, will be in the E.U. before Turkey is. And they see this as a bridge between two countries,” said Muhamed Hadziabdic, the vice rector of the school, who is a Bosnian Muslim.
Turkish people “like Bosnia,” he said. “It’s European, but it still feels like home. The smell, the culture, it’s recognizably Turkish.”
Bosnian students eye Turkey’s growing economy with interest; their country’s official unemployment rate last year was 46 percent, far higher than in Turkey. Many of the Turkish students, who make up 65 percent of the school, say they are there for a taste of freedom away from the watchful eye of their families back home. Some say they plan to stay in the region and develop businesses.
“When I was little, I wanted to go to a foreign country. I wanted to learn a foreign language,” said Fatih Selcuk, 19, a first-year student from Izmir, Turkey. “Bosnia was in the Ottoman Empire, so it’s similar to Turkey. My father said you should go to Bosnia-Herzegovina, because it’s Slavic but it’s Muslim.”
The other Turkish school in Sarajevo, the International Burch University, opened in 2008 and has connections to Fethullah Gulen, an influential Turkish Muslim preacher who runs an international religious and educational movement from Pennsylvania.
Officials at Burch also speak of their desire to forge connections between Turkey and the Balkans. The students at the school tend to be more religiously conservative, but as at the International University of Sarajevo, the curriculum is secular.

A different road to Europe

Turkey’s expansion into the region comes as the country’s long-held dream of joining the European Union seems remote. Western European powers, especially Germany, have been concerned that Turkey’s 74 million residents could flood Europe in search of jobs. Some officials have questioned whether the Muslim-majority country is European at all.
But Bosnia is firmly within Europe — even though Sarajevo’s old city is a dense warren of shops and centuries-old storefronts that is reminiscent of Istanbul. Turkey’s growing presence in European regions that were once part of its empire is one way of making up for being excluded from the E.U., some analysts say.

Turkey’s increasing influence has upset some Bosnian Serbs, who maintain a parallel government in Bosnia under the complicated system dictated by 1995 peace agreements. Officials from the parallel government have complained that the Bosnian Muslim part of the country is falling under the influence of a former imperial power.
“For Islamists, a return of Turkey back to the Balkans is a fulfillment of ambitions. But for many Serbs and also for many Croats, their national struggle in the 19th century is still in their minds,” said Esad Hecimovic, the editor of news programs on OMT, the private television station that has been airing the soap opera based on Suleiman’s life.

Still, even Serbia and Croatia have welcomed Turkish investment. Turkey was the third-largest investor in Mediterranean Croatia in the first three quarters of 2012, and Erdogan has pursued closer ties with Serbia, a longtime rival. Turkish diplomats also have worked to broker talks between the Serbian and Bosnian governments.
The efforts in the Balkans have given Turkey a new venue for economic growth as it has grappled with ethnic violence that has engulfed neighboring Syria. There, a diverse nation that also was once part of the Ottoman Empire is threatening to tear itself apart — a development that has similarities to what happened in Yugoslavia.
Many in the Balkans think they are merely a way point on the route to Turkey’s broader goals.
“They are a big regional power,” said Hayruddin Somun, a former Bosnian ambassador to Turkey. “The Balkans was always their path to conquering Europe. They had to come through here.”

Turkey extends its Balkan soft power tactics

Apr 27, 2013

By Ioannis Michaletos |The Turkish foreign policy aims steadily over the past decade to extend its political, diplomatic reach into the Balkans following “soft power” tactics, especially in the education sector.

In mid-2012 the Turkish Premier boldly declared that Bosnia-Herzegovina is an Ottoman heritage and he added that “‘Bosnia is entrusted [emanet] to you [Turkey]. Don’t leave this region”, as supposedly the late Alija Izetbegovic told him in confidence in 2003. In sort Turkey claims a sort of a De Facto status of guarantee power in Bosnia-Herzegovina, one that has not been subject to any international or regional treaty but based on interpersonal relations and subjective interpretation of local history.

The soft power approach bases great value in the academic and educational sector as a prerequisite for the education of younger generations that will be in the future the “Bridge” between Turkish and Bosnian societies. According to Southeastern European Times and reporter Drazen Remikovic “Bosna Sema, a Turkish educational organization, has opened 14 schools in four cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1996… With over 3,500 pupils and over 500 employees”. Furthermore, two Turkish higher educational establishments already operate in the country and are in direct support by the governing Turkish political party AKP with an estimated 5,000 students. One of them the international University of Sarajevo has attracted over 1,000 Turkish citizens that prefer to reside in Bosnia while studying there and has been up to date a more than 110 million Euros investment. The International Burch University founder is the Istanbul-based Foundation of Journalists and Writers, established among others by Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen.

In particular the Fethullah Gulen movement seems to be more active and having larger educational funds to invest than Turkish state itself, with the presence of it quite extensive in Balkan countries. Only in the higher educational level the following institutions operate:

Albania
Beder University www.beder.edu.al
Epoka University www.epoka.edu.al

Bosnia
International Burch University www.ibu.edu.ba

Cyprus (Occupied North)
Eastern Mediterranean University www.emu.edu.tr

FYROM
International Balkan University www.ibu.edu.mk

Montenegro
Mediterranean University www.unimediteran.net

Romania
University of Southeast Europe / Lumina University www.lumina.org

Turkey
Antalya International University www.antalya.edu.tr
Gediz University www.gediz.edu.tr
Fatih University www.fatih.edu.tr
Meliksah University www.meliksah.edu.tr
Mevlana University www.mevlana.edu.tr
Zirve University www.zirve.edu.tr

According to an insider from Albania, “Epoka University disguises itself as secular. For this purpose, it hires a few – unaware – Western, and/or Western-educated, faculty members, to whom it offers high salaries. Religious subjects are not openly taught. However, most faculty members are Turkish Gulen followers. Most Albanian faculty and most students are alumni of local Gulen high schools. Most female teachers wear long skirts and long sleeves, and those who don’t are ostracized. Male and female faculty does not mix – i.e. they even dine in separate sections of the cafeteria. Male employees often refuse to shake hands or make eye contact with, and take orders from, female employees. There are no female department heads and no women in upper management.

Both universities are closely affiliated with, and promote themselves in, two Islamic newspapers, also owned and operated by Gulenists – Gazeta Start: www.gazetastart.com and Gazeta Jone: www.gazetajone.com

The Turkish press agency Anadolu has its main Balkan offices in Sarajevo and closely cooperates with state and non-state Turkish actors. It is of interest to note that Amir Zukic, the bureau chief of the Turkish Anadolu news agency’s Sarajevo office, recently stated in Washington Post that ““Turkish leaders are working at a new Ottoman empire, a gentle one…Turkey, a former regional power, is trying to come back in a big way.” One would wonder what would be the reaction in the region if an Austrian journalist expressed similar views upon a potential return of Austrian-Hungarian Empire being established in Bosnia, or a German, and a Russian one. Clearly the soft power tactic exercised by Turkey is gradually shifting from a pragmatic foreign policy tool and expanding into the realm of historical romance, a point which tends to re-affirm the notion to many neutral observers in the region that Turkey has over-extended itself and will sooner rather than latter have its Neo-Ottoman tactic backfiring, especially in the regional societal context, even amongst the Sunni Muslim part.

Sample of educational establishments in selected countries:

FYROM: Gornja Banjica village in Gostivar municipality; Donors: TIKA, the Union of Turkish World Municipalities and Gostivar municipality; 1,400 pupils.

Bosnia-Herzegovina: Bosna Sema with 14 schools since 1996, 3,500 pupils, plus the Sarajevo College 9Secondary education)

Romania: 10 schools in Bucharest, Constanta, Timisoara, Iasi and Cluj-Napoca; first school named “Megidia Kemal Ataturk National College” was founded in 1995

Serbia: One school in Novi Pazr with 1,000 pupils; 1.7 million Euros investment, donor: TIKA

Data originally compiled by Ivana Jovanovic, Paul Ciocoiu and Menekse Tokyay. The above schools do not include the Gullen movement ones, and include only those that were specifically established by institutions directly related to the Turkish state such as TIKA.
