Gypsy scum chased out of Sofia, Bulgaria
Uprooted Sofia Roma Unwanted in Another District
Quote:
Politics: 17 July 2006, Monday.
Sofia's Kremikovtsi district joined the ranks of those unwilling to welcome the Roma from the controversial illegal ghetto at the capital's Batalova Vodenitsa area, media reported.
There are no free urban areas in the district where the Roma could settle, mayor Tomi Nikolov has said for private Darik Radio. He added that there are mainly villages in the area and the local people wouldn't show tolerance to the Roma.
The problem with the illegal Roma ghetto has been escalating since Sofia Mayor Boyko Borissov finally got the go-ahead from the courts, allowing him to demolish the shacks and uproot the people living there. Four Memebers of the European Parliament, however, reacted, sending a letter to Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, urging him not to demolish the ghetto.
The scandal then split Bulgaria's politicians in two, and districts all over Sofia and the vicinities have voiced their firm decision not to let the uprooted minority form another ghetto on their grounds.
