British companies are actively recruiting Romanians to come and work as midwives, waiters and hotel workers in the UK.

Ahead of Britain opening its borders in January, weekly jobs fairs are being held in the capital Bucharest.

And dozens of recruitment websites are advertising low-skilled jobs in this country – some offering the promise of ‘cash daily’ and others claiming knowledge of English is ‘not necessary’.

The roles vary from minimum wage bartending to a £34,000-a-year job as an NHS midwife – which comes with a ‘relocation package’, raising questions over the costs of such overseas recruitment.

One advert reads: ‘Britain will remove restrictions on the labour market from 2014! Do not miss the start!’

Another boasts of the joys of working in the ‘historic, multicultural and glorious United Kingdom’, advising Romanians that they would ‘join hundreds of fellow Eastern Europeans’ already working there.

Critics have warned such a large influx of Romanian workers will put huge pressure on public services, and make it harder for British people to get jobs.

Recruitment agencies claim they have already found staff for dozens of UK-based hotel groups including Marriott, Hilton, De Vere and the Pride of Britain consortium, as well as fast-food chains such as KFC and private care homes.

An unnamed NHS Trust in the north of England is advertising the midwifery jobs through Active Business Consult, based in Cluj-Napoca, in the former Transylvania region.

Many of the jobs advertised have start dates of January 1, 2014, when the restrictions on Romanians working and living in the UK are lifted.

Under the EU’s freedom of movement laws, all 29million citizens of Bulgaria and Romania, which joined in 2007, will gain unrestricted rights to live and work in Britain.

Ahead of Britain opening its borders in January, weekly jobs fairs are being held in the capital Bucharest.

Thousands are expected to arrive, in a trend similar to the one that followed Poland’s accession in 2004.

According to recruitment website Tjobs, 59,377 UK jobs have been advertised through them this year and 60,828 candidates have responded. Two years ago 41,715 were advertised.

One advertisement for taxi drivers claims ‘no experience required’ and illegally states that certain vacancies in the South East, are ‘female only’ positions.

It read: ‘It is not like being a taxi driver in Romania. You are supplied with jobs by the company. You will be self-employed and receive cash daily.’

Hundreds of taxi driver jobs are being advertised with applicants required to have just one month’s driving experience.

Another advertisement for 100 butchers’ positions declared: ‘Knowledge of English is not necessary!’

Peter Bone, Tory MP for Wellingborough, said the revelations about jobs fairs shows that ‘the number of people coming here is going to be in the thousands’.

He said: ‘We should stop Bulgarians and Romanians coming here after 1 January and worry about the EU afterwards.

'Having more and more people coming into this country is going to make matters worse. It is not good for social cohesion, it will put huge pressure on our public services, and it will make it harder for British people to get jobs.’

Romanian recruiters said they believed young people in the UK ‘didn’t want’ the blue-collar jobs.

Calin Stefanescu, chief executive of Tjobs, said: ‘The UK’s young population doesn’t want to work any more in a factory, or as welders, lock smiths, carpenters, in agriculture or as a nurses and waiters.

‘Countries like Poland, Romania and Bulgaria still have a large number of blue-collar workers available.’

And hospitality chiefs also defended their move to recruit in Romania – blaming the UK benefits culture, which they said made British youths reluctant to work.

Peter Hancock, chief executive of Pride of Britain Hotels, a consortium of luxury independent hotels, said: ‘It can be very difficult for job centres to persuade young British people to take advantage of the opportunities out there.

'One can only conclude that it is because they have the alternative of claiming benefits to provide them with the money for food and shelter.

He said Eastern Europeans have ‘a stronger work ethic’.

Yesterday, many workers at Obor Market, Bucharest’s largest market, said they were planning to leave for the UK.

Manu Arinel, 33, who currently earns less than £1.50-an-hour as a sales assistant, said: ‘I will go to work in the UK when there are no restrictions next year.

'I don’t speak good English, but I will do anything when I am there for a job.’

Sever Grosu, director of G&G Recruitment in Bucharest, is sponsoring a careers fair today for hospitality jobs in the UK. He claims he gets 60 CVs a day from workers hoping to migrate to Britain.

His office is full of ring binders stacked floor-to-ceiling titled ‘Chefs in UK’, ‘Waiters in UK’ and – ominously – ‘Black list never ever’ for poor-performing workers.

He told the Mail: ‘Marriott, Hilton, De Vere Hotels, we have found workers for all the big hotels companies in the UK.’

A recent study by the IRES, the Romanian Institute for Migration and Strategy, found the UK was the most-sought after destination to work among young Romanians.

A spokesman for the Department of Health said: ‘Overseas nurses make a very valuable contribution but should only ever work in the NHS if they have proven their competence and language skills.’

The doors already half open, I've already witnessed hordes of Rumanians and Bulgarians working in London in the last 7 years, but seen even more of them in the last few months, they are in epidemic proportions in Italy I'm told by them..

November 6, 2013

THE pressure for young ambitious Bulgarian and Romanian workers to migrate to Britain in the New Year increased today after the European Commission published pessimistic forecasts for significant sections of the two countries’ economies.

While Brussels is now more optimistic about the prospects for most of the EU, it believes Bulgaria is moving in the opposite direction.

It has slashed its growth forecast for this year to 0.5 per cent compared to the 1.4 per cent it predicted some 12 months ago.

And while Bulgaria’s unemployment is expected to fall, it will still stand at 12.4 per cent, with some 400,000 people out of work in the country whose population is seven million.

In its latest set of country bulletins for the EU, the Commission also points out that Bulgaria in particular faces a double whammy: the number of people emigrating abroad in search of jobs is affecting the spending in the domestic economy.
Hard to tell from the article if the Express is complaining about the upcoming influx or trying to imply that Bulgaria's economic loss will be Britain's gain.

Post Fear and Loathing of the Impending Roma Invasion in the UK

Fear and Loathing of the Impending Roma Invasion in the UK

by: Kevin MacDonald

Express (UK) caption : Roma migrants are taking advantage of Britain’s generous benefits culture

There is an increasing awareness that the May elections for the European Parliament could be a watershed moment. After listing most of the nationalist parties, Timothy Garton Ash, who wears his hostility to all things nationalist on his sleeve, writes in the LA Times :

“Today is the beginning of the liberation from the European elite, the monster in Brussels,” cried [the Dutch Party for Freedom's Geert] Wilders. “Patriotic parties,” added [Marine] Le Pen [leader of France's National Front], want “to give freedom back to our people” rather than being “forced to submit their budget to the headmistress.”

There is nothing at all coming from the current leadership in Berlin, Paris or Brussels (forget London) that is likely to reverse the tide that’s buoying these parties. Behind their typical 10% to 25% standing in opinion polls is a wider popular discontent with unemployment, austerity and a Brussels EU bureaucracy that spews out regulations about the specifications of your vacuum cleaner and how much water you can use in a toilet flush.

If the tide continues to rise, what happens? (“ Is Europe headed for divorce? “)

Ash suggests that a strong showing in the elections would “drive the mainstream socialists, conservatives and liberals closer together.” But unless these elites completely change course on immigration and national identity, I rather doubt that they can stem the tide.

Advertisement This is very good news indeed. One of my fantasies is that the nationalist right would find a billionaire or two who would fund strong opposition to immigration and multiculturalism in the way that the treasonous mainstream parties have enjoyed for decades. Well, it turns out that the UK Independence Party has found one in Paul Sykes, a billionaire property developer. Sykes has said that he will do “whatever it takes” to promote UKIP in the May elections.

UKIP’s main issue is jettisoning the EU, but that completely dovetails with concern about immigration because as of January 1, EU regulations are forcing the UK to open its borders to Bulgaria or Romania—and that means tens of thousands of those delightful and industrious Roma adding further vibrancy to the UK. Like the U.S. where states that are powerless to control their borders (as exemplified by the fate of California Proposition 187 and Arizona SB 1070 which were vitiated by the courts), the EU controls immigration policy throughout Europe. Once again, it’s all about top-down control by elites out of touch with legitimate popular attitudes and hostile to the traditional peoples and culture of the West.

This UKIP video on immigration is careful to stay within politically correct boundaries — non-White spokespeople, explicit rejections of “racist” attitudes, and focusing mainly on economic arguments. But the bottom line is their point that it is impossible to control immigration if the UK stays in the EU. And given the impending Roma invasion required by the EU, opposing the EU has a huge, gut-level emotional hook.

It’s quite clear that Sykes is deeply concerned about immigration—indeed it would appear to be his main issue. In this interview with BBC on why he is supporting the UKIP, he claims that British politicians ignore popular opinion on immigration and do their best to prevent popular discussion or input on the subject—the same top-down control of this vital issue by elites that has occurred in all Western countries. He notes that the vast majority of the people of Yorkshire do not want the border restrictions on Romanians and Bulgarians to be removed on January 1 as required by EU regulations.

The real fear, of course, is that the Roma will inundate the UK, which will have little impact on the British labor market but result in a large drain on public services . As Jim Goad notes in Talkimag , “Gypsies are exactly like Jews, minus the accomplishments.” That is, they have maintained cultural and genetic separation from surrounding peoples for centuries, and combined that with hostile and instrumental attitudes toward the surrounding peoples. (I review the Roma/Gypsies as a case study of a group evolutionary strategy in my Diaspora Peoples , p. ixff.) But the Roma combine these basic traits of a group evolutionary strategy with a completely opposite ecological profile—low-IQ, illiteracy and avoiding educational opportunities, low-investment parenting, high fertility, early age of marriage, lack of involvement in the labor force, criminality , welfare dependency, and completely lacking in financial or political power.

But precisely because they are so universally disliked, the Roma become an ideal stalking horse for those concerned about the immigration onslaught in general. If you can’t dislike the Roma, who can you dislike? As Goad notes in his inimitable style, “Isn’t it possible, even to the most starry-eyed egalitarian dipshit, that there’s at least one ethnic group on this planet that genuinely sucks? Why can’t that group be Gypsies?”

Leo McKinstry in The Express has a wonderful column on the threat presented by this impending invasion and the treasonous behavior of the political class in the UK. After mentioning a teenage Roma trying to sell a newborn baby, McKinstry has the following to say on these potential new Englishmen:

Already there are estimated to be 200,000 Roma people living here but that number will be dwarfed once all border controls are lifted. “In January the only thing left will be the goat,” says one Roma father of seven, warning that his entire village plans to come to England.

This wave of mass immigration from two of Europe’s most impoverished countries will be a disaster for Britain, hastening the collapse in national identity, wrecking social cohesion and imposing an intolerable strain on civic infrastructure.

Welfare bills will soar, not least because many migrants are adept at exploiting the laxity of our benefits. Even now a third of all sellers of the Big Issue fundraising magazine are Romanian, since such a role allows them to claim self-employed status and thereby gain access to social security. Incredibly, over the past five years there have been 27,000 arrests out of an estimated population of 87,000 Romanians living in London.

This act of institutionalised self-destruction has been foisted on us by a treacherous political class that selfrighteously preens itself over its devotion to multiculturalism and open borders. The imposition of mass immigration over recent decades has been accompanied by a barrage of official propaganda extolling the joys of diversity and portraying all opposition to this creed as racist bigotry.

But the spin machine cannot maintain the illusion of success.

Even the high priests of political correctness have to admit that something has gone wrong. So last week two of Sheffield’s most senior MPs, Labour’s David Blunkett and Nick Clegg of the Liberal Democrats, attacked the conduct of the Roma in their city.

Blunkett warned that there would be “an explosion” unless there is a change “in the culture of the incoming Roma community”, while Clegg said that the Roma “behave in a way that people sometimes find intimidating, sometimes offensive”. Yet for all its apparent candour, the language of the two men reeks of opportunism and double-standards. In reality they were both responding to grievances expressed primarily by the local Pakistani community.

Would they have used such rhetoric if it was just the white British working-class people complaining about a minority group? I doubt it.

In such a case they would probably have shrieked about the intolerance of the indigenous population. Indeed, Clegg now has the nerve to bleat about the duty of the Roma “to be sensitive to the way of life as lived in this country”, yet he had never taken such a robust line with Muslims in Yorkshire, even as some cling to deeply unBritish practices such as the adoption of Sharia law or the wearing of the burka.

Obsessed with hierarchies of victimhood the Left sees grievances as only being legitimate if they come from a migrant community.

We are paying a terrible price for the creed of Left-wing politicians.

They pose as champions of progress yet their fixation with multiculturalism is dragging us into a new dark age. In many of our cities, social solidarity is being replaced by divisive tribalism, democracy by identity politics.

Well said, and I wholeheartedly agree that the end result of this onslaught is the racialization of politics . Incidentally, one wonders whether all the recent attention given to the “knock out game” attacks by Black “troubled youth” in the U.S. is because there have been attacks against Jews in Brooklyn. As this article notes, the game has been going on for years without any publicity in the mainstream media and despite Colin Flaherty’s White Girl Bleed a Lot . But now the attacks are being investigated as “hate crimes” because Jews are victims. This after years of attacks in which the vast majority of victims have been Whites attacked by Blacks (including “Polar bear hunting” episodes which obviously target Whites) have been suppressed in the mainstream media.

But that’s getting off topic. The lesson here is that Paul Sykes is putting big money behind the opposition to the ongoing immigration disaster and in particular the impending onslaught of tens of thousands of more Roma to the UK. In the U.S., there is no party that has even the modest track record of the UKIP that could credibly attract that kind of funding. But it does show that once a party gets some traction, it can very rapidly move into the big time, by appealing to popular, common sense, and entirely legitimate attitudes on immigration and multiculturalism—and attracting people like Paul Sykes. We desperately need more people like him.

The revolution will begin in Europe.

Default Cameron prepares for showdown with Europe over benefits for Romanian and Bulgarian migrants

David Cameron is set to defy European rules by announcing a severe new set of obstacles for immigrants as Britain's Romanian and Bulgarian communities rapidly multiply.

It is one of many goals the prime minister will put to the EU in an attempt to negotiate a looser relationship with Brussels ahead of a 2017 referendum.

People wishing to enter Britain will have to prove they have lived here for a year, up from three months, before they can receive benefits in one of the proposals expected to be unveiled.

Another policy would remove child benefits from the dependent children of migrant workers, sources claim.

The move is a dramatic step that goes against EU laws preventing member states from having one rule for their citizens requesting state hand-outs, and another for immigrants.

If he goes ahead with the proposals, there is little Europe could do to stop him for years.

The prime minister is today considering the move, which would spark yet another court battle with the European Commission over benefit restrictions and potentially tarnish the country's fragile relationship with the EU.

Currently, Britain is in court with Brussels defending its right to subject migrants to 'additional tests' in order to merit state hand-outs.

However, the prime minister is motivated by mounting pressure from his own voters to guarantee strict control over Bulgarian and Romanian immigrants from January 1, when they will be awarded the same freedom of movement as all EU citizens.

A poll for the Mail identified deep public anxiety about the ending of transitionary immigration restrictions on new EU members Romania and Bulgaria in January.

The poll found that 82 per cent did not want citizens of the two countries to gain free access to the UK, 85 per cent said they feared schools and hospitals could not cope and 76 per cent said young Britons could lose out on jobs.
It also found more voters trust Labour on immigration (17 per cent) than the Tories (11 per cent). Some 44 per cent said they trusted no party.

Sources claim he is encouraged by powerful nations such as Germany, Denmark and Spain also vocalising concerns over the influx of eastern European immigrants.

As of next year, the people of Bulgaria and Romania will be free to work and claim benefits in Britain.

At home, pressure is mounting as at least 33 backbench Tory MPs have so far signed a petition to stop Bulgarian and Romanian immigration altogether by 2018.

A cabinet minister told The Sunday Times: 'The writing is on the wall for the way the commission is behaving. Other countries have also had enough.'

Next week, a group of Tories will unveil their own ideas on how Britain could renegotiate its relationship with Europe ahead of the election.

Andrea Leadsom, Chris Heaton-Harris and Tim Loughton, from the Fresh Start Project, have identified at least five major changes to EU treaties they say should be at the heart of Britain’s renegotiation.

They include reforms to protect our financial services industry and an end to limits on work hours. Tory Eurosceptics also want reforms to energy policy, the common agricultural policy, defence and immigration.

Ministers are already furious that the European Commission has taken legal action to try to prevent welfare curbs on non-British EU citizens.

Brussels claims making migrants show they are ‘habitual residents’ before they can claim child benefit, child tax credit, jobseeker’s allowance and state pension credit breaks the right to free movement.

Migrants would have to be actively looking for work and have a realistic prospect of getting a job to claim unemployment benefits.

How grateful we all were when our political leaders graciously informed us that we were once again allowed to discuss immigration without being accused of racism.

And it’s (largely) been true. Because now there’s a new word, or rather, a number of new words that can be used pejoratively to describe those who question the value of large-scale immigration. And all those words end with “phobe”.

The latest is “Romaphobe”, used to attack anyone who is too stupid to understand how “lively” and “vibrant” their communities will become after New Year’s Day, when EU freedom of movement rules are lifted to Romanian and Bulgarian citizens.

Do I need to add all the usual caveats and qualifications before I continue? Okay, let's get it over with: the vast majority of immigrants from all over the world make a massively positive financial as well as personal and cultural contribution to the UK. Britain is far better off today than it would have been without immigration.

Okay? Can I continue now?

Tom Harris MP: Why I refuse to go to Labour Party conference
24 Sep 2013

Like other MPs in parts of the country which have seen a large influx of Eastern European immigrants, I’ve been approached increasingly frequently by constituents with complaints and fears. The fears bit is easy to explain: no one wants to be accused of racism or of being a phobe.

But a consistent pattern of complaints took shape quite early on: filthy and vastly overcrowded living arrangements, organised aggressive begging, the ghetto-isation of local streets where women no longer feel safe to walk due to the presence of large groups of (workless) men, the rifling through domestic wheelie bins by groups of women pushing oddly child-free prams, and a worrying increase in the reporting of aggressive and violent behavior in local schools.

Naturally and inevitably, there are those who will point to similarly unpleasant anti-social behavior by the indigenous population, and for a time those complaints and fears of my constituents can be safely ignored or explained away in whatever way makes us all feel comfortable again.

In the meantime, my constituents become angrier and more resentful, because the lives they have worked so hard to build for themselves and their families are being impinged upon by people whose culture, way of life and attitude to authority and those around them are utterly alien. And no one is listening to them, or representing them or their concerns.

The cries of “(insert preferred ethnic grouping)-phobia” always come from those who resist value judgments on other cultures. What’s good about our culture might be offensive to others, and vice versa. Everything’s relative, yeah?

No.

It would be absurd to claim that all foreign cultures are beneficial to the UK. Take an extreme example: female genital mutilation. This is a barbaric product of a backward culture that is alien to Britain and only exists here because it was brought here by north African immigrant communities. FGM is wrong, a hateful and disgusting practice. And it’s not just wrong here in the UK. It’s wrong wherever in the world it’s practiced and we should be doing everything we can to stop it. Sounds like cultural imperialism? Whatever.

So, having established that not every foreign cultural can, or should, fit seamlessly into modern Britain, can we at least recognise that those who simply do not want any more immigration from (for example) eastern Europe have every right to say so? And to be heard?

It’s simply not good enough for our leaders to say that it’s all right to talk about immigration, and then when they do exactly that, to call them bigots when they think no one’s listening.

Maybe the fears of a “flood” of eastern Europeans queuing up at Calais as December 31 ticks away are unfounded. No one any longer believes government estimates of how many are likely to come here anyway. But when David Cameron talks about making the UK benefit system less attractive to new arrivals from Romania and Bulgaria, he’s speaking to a lot more people than just his own party’s Right wing.

And my own party would do well to recognise that.

Romanians Arrested at 7 Times the Rate of Britons in the UK

by: sven

Daily Mail

December 14, 2013

Romanians at Park Lane in London. Police have been told to investigate why the latest arrest figures are so disproportionate.

Romanians are being arrested in London at seven times the rate of Britons, it was revealed yesterday.

Around 800 people from the Eastern European state were arrested in the capital last month, according to official figures.

Many of them are linked to a wave of cashpoint fraud which cost an estimated £40million in the first six months of this year alone.

Police say that for every 1,000 Romanians in London, 183 are arrested. This compares to 26 Britons per 1,000.

Police chiefs have been told to investigate the reasons behind the hugely disproportionate figures.

They are concerned that they could rise even higher when restrictions on Romanians and Bulgarians living in Britain are lifted on January 1.

For every 1000 Romanians in London 183 are arrested.

The Government is preparing for a ‘comprehensive’ review of how foreign national offenders are treated in the criminal justice system.

There are concerns that gaps in cross-border intelligence checks are allowing prolific and dangerous offenders to slip through the net.

The latest figures emerged at a summit about the threat posed by foreign criminals held at City Hall, in Central London.

Stephen Greenhalgh, the capital’s deputy mayor for policing, was told the Met has undertaken an in-depth study of overseas offenders.

It found that Romanians account for more than 11% of all foreign national offenders, despite making up just a tiny proportion of residents.

This placed the Eastern European nation at the top of a ‘league table’ of foreign suspects, followed by people from Poland, Lithuania, India and Nigeria.

UK Council Leader Voices Fears Over the Coming Invasion From the East

Express

December 31, 2013

Romanians, Bulgarians and the Roma will all have free access to British schools, hospitals and welfare from January 1.

Next week’s influx of eastern Europeans will stretch schools and hospitals to crisis point, a council leader warned last night.

As Britain prepares to open its doors to tens of thousands of Romanian and Bulgarian migrants, the leading Tory said further unrestricted immigration would create serious problems.

In words that will resonate with millions, Susan Hall, boss of Harrow Council in north-west London, admitted local authorities will find it difficult to cope.

Her sobering prediction came after a series of Daily Express reports from Romania where poor families have said they are planning to head to the UK after restrictions are lifted on January 1.

Ms Hall said: “What the Daily Express has found is a timely eye-opener about what may be heading to the shores of the UK in just a few days time.

“Councils simply can’t cope with an influx of immigrants which will strain our housing lists and distort school class sizes.

“What people are afraid of, I think understandably, is that the freedom to travel and find work within the EU is being translated into a free pass to try and tap up the UK’s generous benefits system. People who come to the UK to work and pay taxes are welcome.

“But the numbers we have seen in recent years are creating social problems of an entirely new order. Crime linked to east Europeans, ranging from prostitution to pickpocketing, is appearing in suburban areas like mine and residents are struggling to see that as a benefit of free travel within the EU.”

Default Bulgarian migrants are given lessons in exploiting British benefits Seats on buses to London are booked up for days as thousands of Bulgarian and Romanian migrants expected to head

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...-benefits.html Recruitment agencies are offering Bulgarian migrants practical tips and advice on how to exploit the benefits system when they arrive in Britain after January 1, The Daily Telegraph has learnt.

Agencies have been set up specifically to help people from one of Europe’s poorest countries navigate the generous social security system once they are in the UK.

Thousands of migrants from Bulgaria and neighbouring Romania are expected to start arriving in Britain on January 1 when current employment restrictions are lifted.

While most are expected to seek work, there are those who have made no secret of their determination to take full advantage of the benefits system available to them.

But with an already complex system in place and the Government threatening to impose even tighter restrictions on new arrivals, unscrupulous agencies have begun advertising advice for would be claimants in return for a cut of the benefits.

Migrants given free access to GPs

Immigration advice hotlines have been openly boasting of their ability to help migrants to Britain claim welfare, with one firm based in Middlesex trumpeting its 100 per cent success rate.

Aleksandra Dzhongova, who runs a legitimate employment agency based in Sofia, said she was aware of firms being set up specifically to help new arrivals navigate the housing and child welfare system, rather than find job vacancies.

But Mrs Dzhongova, who helps find work for around 300 Bulgarians a year in Britain, stressed that benefit cheats only represented a tiny minority of those who would be heading to Britain.

She said: “It is not in the Bulgarian culture to want to claim benefits. If you visit the job centre in Sofia, you will find that a third of those who are unemployed do not bother to register. They prefer to rely on their family or work in the grey economy than lean in the state.”

“Many people also do not know how to claim in Bulgaria let alone the UK, but this is where these unscrupulous agencies will step in to help.

“They have been advertising offering people help with claiming social benefits.”

Mrs Dzhongova said she did not expect a huge influx of migrants to begin arriving on January 1 and suggested many would wait until the spring when there would be more seasonal unskilled work available.

But yesterday signs of the large numbers taking advantage of the relaxation in the laws was evident at Sofia’s busy bus station, where all London bound coaches were fully booked until January 9.

Despite the 42-hour journey, which takes two days, scores of young Bulgarians have paid the £110 single journey fare to Victoria coach station in London.

Svetlanka Beaucheva, a worker at a ticket agency in Sofia, said: 'Everything is booked until Thursday 9 January. There are no seats left.’

Yesterday there were still places available on WizzAir and Easyjet flight from the Bulgarian capital to various London airports, although the prices rise steadily after January 1, when full employment restrictions are lifted.

Mrs Dzhongova insisted that the rather than taking British jobs, Bulgarian workers were simply filling vacancies that people in the UK refused to do.

She said: “In my experience the vacancies that we are asked to fill by British companies are for jobs that British people will not do. British people prefer to claim benefits rather than taking low paid work.”

She added: “The changes in the law will not make it harder for British people to find work, it will simply make it harder for British employers to illegally exploit overseas workers. They will now have to pay Bulgarian workers the same as they are paying Polish workers and that is a good thing.

“Sometimes Bulgarians are preferred because they are hard workers and they are willing to work overtime. They are not going to the UK for pleasure, they are going because they need money and they are willing to work for it.”

Default "....just pretend to be Italian. Nobody will know" Economist magazine to Romania/Bulgaria

Quote:
....almost half of Britons believe their government should ban you from the country even if it is against the law to do so. You might just, as a result, have got the impression that you are not welcome.

But you are. On behalf of The Economist’s home country, we invite you to come and work here. Beginning on January 1st, you can go anywhere in the European Union. We hope lots of you choose Britain. Although our leaders seem to have forgotten, Britain pushed for your country to join the EU, knowing that you would one day turn up on our doorstep.

Quote:
The country is used to immigrants. Particularly in London, you will discover all kinds of exotic folk, many of whom were similarly despised when they first arrived. If you are really worried about prejudice, just pretend to be Italian. Nobody will know.

he Economist is an English-language weekly news and international affairs publication owned by The Economist Newspaper Ltd. and edited in offices in London.[2][3] Continuous publication began under founder James Wilson in September 1843. For historical reasons The Economist refers to itself as a newspaper, but each print edition appears on small glossy paper like a news magazine, and its YouTube channel is called EconomistMagazine.[4] In 2006, its average weekly circulation was reported to be 1.5 million, about half of which were sold in the United States.[5]

The publication belongs to The Economist Group, half of which is owned by Pearson PLC via the Financial Times. A group of independent shareholders, including many members of the staff and the Rothschild banking family of England,[6] owns the rest. A board of trustees formally appoints the editor, who cannot be removed without its permission. About two-thirds of the 75 staff journalists are based in London, although The Economist has a global emphasis and scope.[7]
Quote:
When the newsmagazine was founded, the term "economism" denoted what would today be termed "economic liberalism". The Economist generally supports free trade, globalisation,[23] and free immigration. It has been described as neo-liberal although occasionally accepting the propositions of Keynesian economics where deemed more "reasonable".[24] The news magazine favours a carbon tax to fight global warming.[25] According to former editor Bill Emmott, "the Economist's philosophy has always been liberal, not conservative".[26] Individual contributors take diverse views. The Economist favours the support, via central banks, of banks and other important corporations. This principle can (in a much more limited form) be traced back to Walter Bagehot, the third editor of The Economist, who argued that the Bank of England should support major banks that got into difficulties. Karl Marx deemed The Economist the "European organ" of "the aristocracy of finance".[27]

The paper has also supported liberal causes on social issues such as recognition of gay marriages,[28] legalisation of drugs,[29] criticizes the U.S. tax model in a recent issue,[30] and seems to support some government regulation on health issues, such as smoking in public,[31] as well as bans on spanking children.[32] The Economist consistently favours guest worker programs, parental choice of school, and amnesties[33] and once published an "obituary" of God.[34] The Economist also has a long record of supporting gun control.[35]

Extract from a previous Economist article:

Quote:
A feature in Ziarul Financiar (a respected Bucharest business daily) today makes that point well. This argues that although “Britons do not want Romanians,” they are keen on Romanian consumers. Between 2010 and 2013 British firms did an average €6.3 billion of business annually there, double the level of 2007, when it joined the EU. Since its accession, Romania—considered one of Europe’s few “tiger” economies—has been worth some €27-30 billion in turnover and €3.7 billion in profit to companies based in Britain. Several have even received multi-million-euro subsidies from the Romanian state (worth remembering when politicians bang on about Romanians costing British taxpayers money). And the true benefit may be even greater, as these numbers ignore British companies active in Romania but listed elsewhere—like Vodafone, which (for the purposes of Romania’s trade statistics) counts as Dutch.

The article also notes that London, as Europe’s leading financial centre, has benefited from Romania's economic emergence. Two of its major companies—A&D Pharma and ROMGAZ—have listed in Britain’s capital in recent years, generating millions in fees for the London-based banks, lawyers and consultants that they hired.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...now-in-UK.html Up to 200,000 Romanians and Bulgarians now in UK
At least 30,000 Romanians and Bulgarians have come to Britain to work in the last year, as border controls were lifted to comply with EU law, figures are set to show this week Tens of thousands of eastern European migrants have moved to Britain for work in the last year at a time when border controls were being relaxed, official figures are forecast to show this week.

In an exclusive analysis prepared for The Telegraph, economists from Oxford University predict that the figures will show at least 30,000 more Romanians and Bulgarians were working in the UK in the first three months of this year than during the same period in 2013.

The increase - of more than 25 per cent - is likely to take the total number of migrants now living in Britain from these two countries alone to 200,000, when their unemployed family members are taken into account.

The figures follows the lifting of all restrictions on new migrants coming to Britain from Romania and Bulgaria, the European Union’s poorest member states, on January 1.

On Wednesday, official employment statistics will provide the first indication of the impact that lifting the partial ban has had on immigration to Britain.

David Cameron tells Eurosceptics: trust me I get it

In the weeks before the border controls were removed, Conservative MPs called for restrictions on the two countries to be extended but ministers refused, arguing it would have broken European laws.

The figures come at a highly-charged time, with less than two weeks until European Parliament elections are held across Britain. David Cameron is under pressure to take a tougher approach to European immigration in order to win back voters from the UK Independence Party.

Bulgarians and Romanians have been able to travel to Britain without a visa since they joined the EU in 2007. However, temporary restrictions were placed on employment, with work permits and quotas for low-skilled jobs in farming and food processing.

This meant most Romanians and Bulgarians took seasonal work such as fruit picking unless they were self-employed.

All restrictions ended on January 1 this year and Bulgarians and Romanians are now entitled to claim the same benefits and NHS care as other EU citizens.

On Wednesday, the Office for National Statistics will publish an estimate of the number of Romanians and Bulgarians working in the UK between January and March this year, the first three months after the restrictions were lifted.

Analysts from Oxford’s Migration Observatory unit said the number was almost certain to be higher as it had risen even while controls were in place.

In the first quarter of 2007, there were 29,000 Romanian and Bulgarian workers over the age of 16 living in Britain. By the same January-to-March period last year, the figure had almost quadrupled to 112,000.

Dr Carlos Vargas-Silva, an economist and senior researcher at the Migration Observatory, said he expected to see “a big increase” when the official results are released.

“It is almost certain that we are going to see an increase in that number from the first quarter in 2013 to the first quarter in 2014,” he said. “We would expect at least 30,000 more. It is difficult to predict, but that would be the minimum you would expect.”

By December 2013, there were 144,000 Romanian and Bulgarian workers in the UK.

While there were restrictions on workers taking jobs with large employers, there was no limit on migrants registering as “self-employed”.

Dr Vargas-Silva said: “It is possible to argue that many of the people who wanted to come to the UK are already here because they are working as self-employed.

“Or it may be the case that many of them are looking for jobs with big companies so they are coming to the UK now.”

Migration Watch UK, another think-tank specialising in immigration data, predicted that a total of about 50,000 more migrants from the two countries would arrive every year for the next five years.

Alp Mehmet, vice chairman of Migration Watch UK, and a former ambassador to Iceland, said there would be “additional pressures” on schools, housing and the NHS from “an influx of people of this order”.

“The addition to the population has quite a significant impact on all of us, not least at a time of limited resources,” he said.

Philip Hollobone, the Conservative MP for Kettering, said next week’s immigration figures would be “further confirmation that we have no control whatsoever over EU migration” and called for Britain to leave the European Union.

“Immigration is the number one issue on the doorstep,” he said. “Unless we tackle the issue of our EU membership we are not going to control levels of EU migration.”

Default Romanian gang charged after moving lorries targeted in M6 robberies

Quote:
A gang of Eastern European highway robbers are feared to have been plotting to steal from lorries as the trucks were being driven down Midland motorways.

Eleven men - all from Romania - were detained after officers from the Motorway Patrol Group stopped a Citroen Relay van on the M6 in Staffordshire in the early hours of Tuesday.

It had a makeshift hatch cut in the roof and a large amount of cutting equipment on board along with several people.

Officers believe that the gang planned to drive up so close behind juggernauts they could not be seen by the driver before climbing through the hatch in the roof onto the bonnet of their fast moving van.

The raiders would then slash a hole in the back of the still moving lorry while roped to the pursuing van. A member of the gang would clamber into the back of the truck to pass goods from the targeted truck to the following van which would then drive away with the stolen haul.

The van had been tracked as it drove north past Birmingham and was forced by police to drive onto Keele Services where it was searched and several men were arrested.

One police officer said today: "I know this may sound far fetched but this type of crime has been seen throughout Europe although it has only recently emerged in this country."

The van had been identified after being spotted acting suspiciously on an earlier occasion, possibly as part of Operation Trivium, a joint operation launched by UK and European traffic police in April.

Eleven men from Romania have been charged with conspiracy to rob and were due to appear at Newcastle Under Lyme Magistrates Court today.

A gang in Romanians was recently jailed in their home country for a carbon copy crime after their ruse was captured on film by infra red camera on a police helicopter.

Romanian police had set up a special task force to catch the gang - who were arrested after they were filmed carrying out a robbery on a moving truck.

Policeman Raul Comutru, 45, said later: "It was like something out of a Hollywood movie, the car always kept exactly the same distance behind the lorry and it was obviously done a lot of times before because it was a really smooth operation.

"One of the men climbed out of the roof and a second stands behind him securing him with the rope construction while he sets to work breaking open the doors."

The eleven men charged are Ion Dumitru, aged 22, Marius Caldararu, 37, Ionel Ursaru, 38, Ionita Caldararu, 33, Alin Vaduva, 34, Corado Dumitrascu, 22, Nicolae Constantin, 36, Craisor Mitrache, 34, Felix Macelaru, 32, Ionut Baboi, 27, and Micera Nicusor, 28.

The number of Romanian immigrants sleeping rough in some of the wealthiest areas of the capital has trebled since EU restrictions on movement were lifted in January.

The rise in vagrants is reported to have sparked a spate of aggressive begging, pickpocketing and prostitution, which is blighting exclusive London addresses such as Park Lane.

Revelations about the influx come after politicians dismissed predictions that there would be a fresh wave of immigration when Bulgarians and Romanians were given unrestricted rights to work in the UK on January 1. Yet now the problem has become so acute that Westminster Council is set to hold high-level talks with Home Office officials next week.

Bands of up to 20 Romanian beggars were witnessed last week setting up camps to bed down overnight around Marble Arch and Hyde Park.

Those living or working nearby said the Eastern European gangs have been washing in fountains, dumping rubbish, urinating and even defecating in public.

Aaron Devaney, a sightseeing tour sales agent based in Marble Arch, said: ‘They rob, they steal, they make a mockery of the country and then the police come and give them free flights home. I know what they’re up to because I see them every day. They sleep around the edges of the grass and shower in the fountains.’

Mark Field, Conservative MP for Cities of London and Westminster, last night called for the Government to take urgent action.

He said: ‘Romanians are entitled to come to this country, and many I know have come to take up employment and make a contribution. What is unacceptable is the vast increase in the number sleeping rough on the streets of our capital and there must be urgent action to ensure they are sent back to Romania.’

Those living around Marble Arch and Hyde Park said they have seen Eastern European gangs washing in fountains, dumping rubbish, urinating and even defecating in public during the last week.

Last month, Treasury Chief Secretary Danny Alexander called warnings of a rise in Eastern European migration ‘inflammatory rhetoric’ and ‘scaremongering’.

His comments came in response to official figures showing the number of Bulgarians and Romanians working in the UK had fallen by 4,000 in the three months since employment restrictions were lifted.

However, Scott Blinder, from Oxford’s Migration Observatory, said those figures had come too early to ‘tell us anything apart from what had happened in a very short period’.

He added that it was ‘certainly possible there will be an increase’ in numbers of Bulgarian and Romanian migrants when further figures are released later this year.

Conservative MP Mark Reckless, a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee, said: ‘The previous figures were wrongly seized upon to show no influx of Romanians and Bulgarians.

‘They were no basis for concluding that numbers will be low, so it is perhaps no surprise to see these real figures from Westminster showing Romanian immigration remaining a very serious concern.’

Westminster Council’s report shows that the number of Romanian rough sleepers in Central London has risen from 20 in January to 59 last month.

The local authority has been working with the UK Border Agency to use new powers to crack down on homeless groups.

Under legislation introduced at the beginning of this year they can deport EU nationals sleeping rough and bar them from re-entry for 12 months if they cannot prove ‘they have a proper reason to be here, such as a job’.

Meanwhile, the Home Office has been footing the bill for flights to return offending Romanians to their own country.

But Westminster’s report states that in spite of these efforts ‘we continue to see an increasing number of Romanian nationals on the street’.

It continues: ‘Despite this excellent partnership work, there [were]... 91 new non-UK rough sleepers recorded as bedded down on the streets of Westminster in May, the largest nationality were Romanian with 59 individuals.’

Council leader Philippa Roe said the authority wanted to take more stringent actions, but were limited by EU rules. She said: ‘We would like to crack down on it, but I’m just not sure what more we can do than we’ve already done... with the Border Agency because of EU regulations. Until something is done about free movement there is a limit to what we can legally do.’
1,069 charges laid against Romanians in just three months

Figures from Britain’s biggest police force show that almost 2,000 Romanians were arrested in the first three months after immigration restrictions were relaxed.
The Metropolitan Police said 1,906 Romanians were held in London between January 1 and March 31, along with 220 Bulgarians.
These led to 1,069 charges against Romanians and 100 against Bulgarians, from murder to sex offences and shoplifting.
By contrast, in the first three months of 2013 there were 852 charges against Romanians and 76 against Bulgarians.
It means there has been a 25 per cent increase in the number of charges against Romanians this year.
