Default Presenting... WJJW^MR GROT III FEROX - triple forward sweep swing wing concept fighter jet.

First... a couple of preemptive images... so you don't laugh... too hard. I don't have a degree in aeronautical engineering. Just using my intuition.

This is Burt Rutan's first concept sketch of the Voyager, made on a napkin in a restaurant. I wonder how much rare items collectors would be willing to pay for it?

The final version turned out far more exotic.

Presenting... WJJW^MR GROT III FEROX (Brownie points for whoever figures out what "WJJW^MR" stand for). Triple forward sweep swing wing concept fighter jet. Actually the first use I plan for it, if it ever gets built and flies, will be to put out forest fires. Though only when they've just started and are still very small. Get there fast and spread fire retardant. Just an idea.

The one on the left is the first paper mockup cutout. Second version on the right.

Typical forward sweep configuration.

Full wing extend for maximum lift.

Full forward sweep for maximum speed.

Profile view. Note the very long concave shape front sting. Hypersonic shockwave splitter??? And I'm thinking it might need to be made even longer. Will see what fluid dynamics says. Plan to make the front sting functional. It will bend and twist, even if only slightly, to give control at very high speeds.

Finally had some time to 3Dize this concept and made a very rough CNC cutout using a piece of leftover aluminium scrap from some previous job.

I made a mistake in the CNC program so it didn't get milled how I intended. If you can tell what this mistake was then you're a CNC expert. But it's still alright for visualization purposes.

Forward-swept wing concepts were first put forth by German aeronautical engineers in WW2. In the 1980s, NASA tested the X-29 forward-swept wing aircraft, and the even stranger AD-1 oblique wing plane. A plane with three forward sweep variable wings is pretty way-out. Sorry, not being an engineer myself, I have no idea what 'WJJW^MR GROT III FEROX' would mean other than 'III' being a reference to the three wings.

Looks like my intuition was correct, again. I also thought, long before the SU-57 was publicly displayed, that canards ought to be merged into the fuselage.

Few days ago youtube recommended this video for me.

My facebook photo album links expired so the pictures of my FEROX concept I posted before don't show anymore. Here it is again.

Of course, long pointy fuselage noses for supersonic aircraft are nothing new. SR-71, MIG-25, XB-70, X-15... all have them, although not as extreme.
