European Jewish group expresses outrage over Croatian Nazi satire

BRUSSELS (EJP)---A Jewish group has expressed outrage over a satire featuring Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader that it says "belittled the Holocaust."

Croatian police detained and interrogated last week an opposition activist who posted on facebook a photo montage portrait of Sanader in a Nazi uniform which violated Croatia's law banning Nazi propaganda.

Sanader said he deplored any use of Nazi symbols for the purposes of political satire.

In a statement, the Brussels-based Rabbinical Center of Europe (RCE) acknowledged Croatia’s right to free speech but said "there must be zero-tolerance for using humor in the Nazi genocidal murder of six million Jews".

"As individuals who know the poisonous taste of discrimination, the satires are loathsome. Freedom of expression must never lead to arrogance, it must have a certain limit," the RCE said.

"People of goodwill understand that the use of hateful Holocaust imagery to criticize is unacceptable and beyond the pale of legitimate political criticism. It defames human dignity."

A delegation of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe visited Croatia last March to discuss the protection of Jewish cemeteries in the country.

I've heard and read this dozens of times before: they're advocates of free speech, unless it irks them. That makes for some rather clumsy posturing.

Default Austria Bans Concert by Croatian Singer Marko ‘Thompson’ Perkovic

Zagreb, April 25 (CP) – The Austrian authorities have decided to ban the concert planned for June 7 by Croatian singer/songwriter Marko ‘Thompson’ Perkovic.

The concert planned to be held in St. Andrae in south Carinthia, prior to the start of EURO 2008 was deemed as a heightened risk to public security, as it could spark clashes between football supporters.

The Austrian APA news agency reporting on the ban has explained that the Thompson’s lyrics had neo-fascist overtones and some even came from the Ustashe repertoire. It also describes them as controversial and some as being clearly neo-fascist.

Another Thompson concert that was to be held in the Zurich canton in Switzerland on June 11 has also been banned for the same reasons

Split’s Jews Appalled With Expression of Anger

SPLIT, CROATIA - Split prepared for the arrival of Avram Grant with the graffiti in Ivana Gunduliceva Street “Avram Grant Jewish Shit!” However, some people were delighted with the news that the Israeli coach would arrive, and planted new flowers in front of the entrance to Poljud, where a press conference was to be held tonight. The president of the Jewish community in Split, Ana Lebl, is appalled at the expression of hate that was pointed at the Jewish faith, even though they have nothing to do with that arrival of the coach Avram Grant.

“We condemn and are against any talk of hate in any form, pointed against anyone, either on a national, religious or other basis. We welcome the reaction of Torcida who have distanced themselves from the graffiti” commented Ana Lebl. She added that she does not know when the graffiti will be removed, and stresses that it is the picture, as well as the duty of the city.

As we found out from the head of the management for municipal order in Split, Milan Amizic, the graffiti appeared during last night, and was removed today. Amizic stressed the good cooperation with the police for capturing the perpetrators of graffiti, which has led to a reduction in their number during recent months. Also, he also stressed that racist graffiti was not common in Split, and that the most common ones are nationalistic like “Serbs on Willows” (reference to hanging).

Amizic considers that the graffiti was intended to attract media attention leading up to Grant’s arrival. The author of the graffiti is currently being searched for, in order to bring them in for criminal processing, confirmed the Split-Dalmatia county police department spokesperson, Marina Kraljevic Gudelj.

“Currently there are intensive measures of searching for them, and when they find them and question them, the public will be informed about it” said Gudelj.

Even though the fans of Torcida have distanced themselves from the graffiti, Ivo Goldstein thinks that it shows the existence of anti-Semitism, and he links it with the football club Hajduk.

“Unfortunately this event shows that there is anti-Semitism in Croatia, and that it appears at the margins of social life. I am even more convinced of this considering the fact that most of Split’s citizens are anti-fascist orientated. This is why this pigsty needs to be viewed in the context of suits in and around Hajduk” concluded Ivo Goldstein.

The Israeli coach that caused a stir even before his arrival, was scheduled to land in Split today, to continue his negotiations about sitting at the head of the football club Hajduk. However, he delayed his visit for next week.

That is my city!!

ANTI-NATO PROTEST Let Protesters Make Their Own Anti-NATO Tram Activists of the anti-NATO initiative stuck posters all over Zagreb’s NATO tram, protesting Croatia joining the organisation

ZAGREB, CROATIA – After a NATO tram began running in the streets of Zagreb, anti-NATO activists had something to say about that. The Activists of the Anti-Imperialist Action, Red Action and Croatian Anti-Globalist Movement stuck posters all over the tram, warning of the consequences of NATO’s war of terrorism that claims the lives of innocent children. The action of redesigning the NATO tram was done under the initiative called “Do you want Croatia to take part in killing children?”.

- We consider the Christmas holidays a time of peace, love, tolerance and solidarity, so we believe promoting a militarist organisation is unacceptable – the anti-NATO initiative said. They stressed that they condemn “cheap advertising and imposing of something whose existence is morally questionable as benefiting the general society”.

- Croatia is calling for peace, the preservation of human rights and the environment in which we live and we again remind that NATO does not care for any of these values – they said.

As a sign of support of Croatia’s joining NATO, Zagreb’s Homeland War soldiers associations decorated a Zagreb tram with NATO signs, flags of all member-countries and symbols of Zagreb’s Homeland War soldiers’ associations.

- We harshly denounce what they have done. The NATO tram was an action by 40 Homeland War soldiers’ associations and are a sign of support of Croatia joining NATO, which is Croatia’s strategic interest. I see no logic in what they did. They should make their own anti-NATo tram – a representative of the associations, Mirko Ljubicic Sveps, said.

He added that all relevant political parties endorsed Croatia’s joining the Alliance, as do 90 percent of Croatian Homeland War soldiers. He is revolted by the fact that the protesters destroyed three months of work on the tram.

Thumbs up Croatia, EU and Culture...

Croat nationalism is standing shoulder to shoulder honoring the past and celebrating the future. I'm not a Croat, but that is clear. What does the national anthem, "Lijepa Naša'' mean? I admit I don't know a lot about the region, but I am curious about it. What's it like when you lived next to your historical and religious enemies after all the years? What is your opinion of Croatia getting into the European Union?

I'm against it personally because they will lose their cultural identity by being lumped in with the other dysfunctional multicultural countries. Hell, I'm against any European country joining it just for better trade. When in fact it's not a trade, because the countries that go into it lose more than they gain. Realistically, it is a large federal government that installs their propaganda to the states, which are the countries within.

The EU is the death of any cultural identity and I hope that no other country sees the contrary.

Lijepa naša it means : beautifull ours homeland - it is about beautifull high mountains, rivers, see, and gratitude for ours history and proud to be Croat.

About 70% of Croats dont want to join with EU, we see EU as next Yugoslavi, country where one nation rule to all others, where Jews leading main politic, where small and clean nations as Croatia (87%catholic, 99% white) will be multiculturised and asimmilated. Jews know that so they in last few years trying to crush ours spirit, to bribe ours goverment, to fill my land with Turks, niggers from France, Pakistani from England, Chinese from Serbia, Gypsies from Bulgaria.
Last year all ours Tv stations and newspapers are bought by Jews, so we dont watch Tv and we dont buy newspapers...all what we had now is Internet.

Becouse we are proud and recently liberated from communist Yugoslavia we see that communism is coming again and all that shit with Obama, it is sign that communism as in his true meaning (Jews: Marx and Engels) is coming, and in that organistion we wont go again.

EU will last for few decades, but i m affraid that end of EU will be destroyed in great war against small nations and big ones

Anything to keep ancient history alive , I believe it is an attempt to keep the "sympathy factor" alive within the media during the Gaza operation .
