The man who assaulted and raped a homeless woman in Albufeira has refugee status and comes from Eritrea. The 38-year-old foreigner was detained by the Southern Judicial Police Board and, to which the CM has learned, is a group of 15 refugees who arrived in Portugal at the end of October. Ibrahim Salem, the CM knows, entered Portugal on October 28
and was welcomed by the António Silva Leal Foundation in Albufeira, along with other refugees who were being held in Italy.
At dawn on Thursday, as the CM already reported, he approached the 67-year-old victim, who was sheltered from the cold at the entrance of a bank branch in downtown Albufeira. According to the PJ, "through the use of physical force, he partially undressed her and in the face of the victim's resistance, he assaulted her, causing her to have maxillofacial and nasal fractures."
The victim was rescued by the Firemen of Albufeira and INEM and hospitalized in the hospital of Faro. Minutes after the crime, the aggressor was intercepted by a young man of 21 years, who managed to immobilize him until the arrival of the GNR. The PJ has carried out actions that confirm the aggression and the violation. The man was placed in custody by order of a judge.
