It is important to know how to interpret generic genealogy results. Most do not.
Each company uses a different set of genetic markers (single-nucleotide polymorphisms) which they compare against their own particular database. The percentages given represent the frequency which these markers occur in a given geographic location.
Many people would make the mistake of interpreting the results given above as implying that they are actually 12.4% Asian, 7% Finnish, etc. but this (often obviously) not the case. These results indicate Greek ancestry (probably paternal). There is no genetic marker that is specific to to one group not to mention an arbitrarily defined geographic area. We share common ancestors with all the other races (this does not imply a direct transfer of genes, mind you). Most of these common ancestors were long before the evolutionary distinction of the races we know today. In a broader sense we share common ancestors with all life on the planet from primates to fruit flies.
Genetic genealogy is usually done using either the Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Since these are inherited exclusively from the father or mother respectively it is necessarily only half the picture.
Most companies explain in the fine print, in varying degrees of clarity, how the results are calculated.
