Trans US veterans to be offered gender surgery for first time

The US government has announced it will offer gender confirmation surgery for transgender veterans through its health care coverage for the first time.

Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) secretary Denis McDonough announced the change at a Pride event in Florida.

He said it would allow veterans to go through the full process "with VA at their side".

Previously hormone therapy and mental health services were covered but not surgery.

Gender confirmation surgery, also known as sex reassignment surgery, covers a range of procedures which alter a person's anatomy to match their gender identity.

I use the veteran status as camouflage. You all should know I’m not a patriotard or green nigger but I will get every benefit and discount that I can. After all I was poisoned while serving at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and then forgotten along with 1 million other men, women, and children.

Russian forces block US military patrol in northeast Syria

Russian forces have blocked an American military convoy, comprising four armored vehicles, in Syria's northeastern Hasakah province.

Russia's RT television network reported on Monday that Russian personnel had stopped the US military patrol along the M4 highway, some 10 kilometers west of the town of Tall Tamr.

Informed sources said the US convoy was forced to return because it had violated security protocols between Moscow and Washington.

Russia said the US had not given prior notice regarding its troops' movements in Hasakah.

China has censured the passage of yet another US warship through the Taiwan Strait, describing Washington as the greatest security "risk creator," which continues to intentionally play the same old tricks in the region.

The US Navy said its Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur had conducted a "routine transit" on Tuesday in the sensitive waterway that separates Chinese Taipei from mainland China. "The ship's transit through the Taiwan Strait demonstrates the US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific," said the Navy in a statement.

The People's Liberation Army's Eastern Theater Command denounced the transit, saying Chinese forces monitored the vessel through its passage and warned it.

"The US side is intentionally playing the same old tricks and creating trouble and disrupting things in the Taiwan Strait," it said.

This "fully shows that the United States is the greatest creator of risks for regional security, and we are resolutely opposed to this," it added.

The defense ministry of the self-ruled island said the ship had sailed in a northerly direction throughout the strait and the "situation was normal."

Russia has called on Britain to investigate the "dangerous" actions of a Royal Navy ship that ignored a notice against intrusion in Russia's territorial waters.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that the incident was a "gross violation of the UN convention" and called on London to "conduct a thorough investigation of the actions of the crew." The ministry has summoned the British military attache' in Moscow to protest the maneuvering.

The Interfax news agency earlier said a Russian warship had fired warning shots after HMS Defender violated Russia's maritime borders in the Black Sea.

"The destroyer had been warned that weapons would be used if it trespasses the border of the Russian Federation. It did not react to the warning," the ministry said.

A Russian bomber also dropped four high explosive fragmentation bombs as a warning in the destroyer's path.

The British ship, which had ventured as many as three kilometers inside, left the Russian waters soon afterwards, it said.
