I'm looking forward to a Southern Thanksgiving with lots of family. Lots of Anglo-feed like a delicious turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, rice, peas, corn, etc.

We stuffed our Turkey with a Cornish game hen one year to see if our kids would believe we had roasted a pregnant bird.
Nope. Shoulda known then the little bastards would grow up to be anti-Semites. |

Ours comes earlier. We had the usual family over. I go to my office with a bottle of scotch to take the edge off before they get here.
My wife's nieces turn away when I say hello to them. When they were little I'd get hugs. But now they're old enough to pick up what their parents are say behind my back they don't even say hello. |

I had never thought about the potato thing but now, yeah it's part of a whole lot of home cooked meals in my family.
(I love sweet potato casserole with the marshmallows)

To me a turkey is just a bad chicken. Maybe I just never had one that was prepared by someone that knew how, but it seems that by the time the inside of it is cooked the outside is overcooked and dry.
Sweet potatoes only need a little butter and to be mashed. This is the only thing I cook in the microwave, they come out much better. |

Shooting a deer with a laser sighted rifle made in a mass production factory and sold at walmart is hardly "what our ancestors did". The whole scene of degenerate obese Americans murdering the best Deer so they can further stuff their double chin faces is disgusting. The Pioneers walked to Oregon with less gear than these people have "loaded down in their pickups" just to just shoot some ruminants nibbling on grass. What a disgusting bloated sight of American overkill. Last edited by James Dovery; November 28th, 2013 at 12:03 PM. |

Good grief. I lurve sweet potato souffle, but I make mine with pecan topping. Why all the hate for green been casserole? Gosh, I almost thought it was a law you have to have green been casserole during the holidays.
Love, love, love the holidays. I live for this time of year. The weather is finally cold, fireplace roaring and it's cold enough to have my oven cranked up all day. MMMMM, dinner is almost ready. Just waiting for the turkey to rest before slicing. The menu: Peach glazed turkey breast - A new recipe I'm trying this year. Turkey breast is brined in peach juice with rosemary sprigs. Then it's roasted with a peach and rosemary chutney glaze. Spiral cut ham - A Honey Baked ham knockoff I found online. Cornbread dressing - My favorite thing on the menu other than desserts. Sweet potato souffle Green bean casserole Creamed corn Cranberry Celebration - Another knockoff found online. Alex is probably cringing right now, but it's delish. Pecans, celery, jello, cranberry sauce, and orange juice mixed until soft set. Parker house yeast rolls - I really love making bread, and these are buttery goodness. Eggnog cake with eggnog french buttercream frosting - Eggnog...need I say more? Turtle tart - If you like turtles, you'll love this. No company or extended family this year. It will be a nice, peaceful day of just eating and relaxing. Happy Thanksgiving all. Last edited by Ann2; November 28th, 2013 at 12:33 PM. |

Why do people put marshmallows on or in sweet potatoes?
Because they're not right in the head. Does anyone not see the parallel to christianity? They can't handle reality, so they sugarcoat it. Even though the end result is destructive to their minds (christianity) or their bodies (marshmallows). I remember the first time I saw those things, I was scared, confused and horrified at the same time. I shrank from the baking-dish abomination with a Beavis look. Good job. I'm surprised they go that far back. I would have guessed they were a midwestern thing from the last 30-40 years. Never saw anyone eating them when I lived in the east. To me, they perfectly express the midwestern mentality.

I'm in complete agreement with the hate for sweet potato casserole. Down here they put frickin cinnamon in it too. wtf!
We're having roast lamb with mint sauce, teeny buttery potatoes, lima beans which the kids just love, baby peas and carrots, sage and onion home made stuffing. Followed by the pecan pie a friend made for us and pavlova (of course!) with real whipped cream, fresh raspberries and grated chocolate, none of that horrendous cool whip crap. Yum!
