Default Tottenham's Eric Dier says footballers are 'last people to blame' for spiraling wages

Tottenham's Eric Dier says footballers are 'last people to blame' for spiraling wages

Premier League clubs set a new record as spending reached £1.4billion for the first time and salaries offered to players reflected the spiraling fees.

Around £210million was spent on transfer deadline day alone, while on a broader scale the previous world record fee was passed twice as Barcelona sold Neymar for £198m and bought Ousmane Dembele for a reported £135m.

And Dier has called for more understanding from supporters as players - who are, as he says, "just young boys" - deal with the fame and incomes that come with a professional football career.

“It’s a very difficult situation,” said Dier.
