Plans to turn Mussolini’s birthplace into a hub for historians analysing Italian fascism have been blocked by a new right-wing mayor. He is backed by Il Duce’s descendants.

The scheme to turn a former fascist headquarters in Predappio into a centre for research and a museum was devised in 2015 to counter the thousands of neo-fascists who pay homage at his tomb.
