Oops. You are right. I think Doom 3 was just as much of a watershed PC game as the original Doom was. The movie Doom (which sucked) has an interesting documentary on it on the DVD.

Windows 9 is being updated for 7 users, as I think so many people ran their restore fix to get rid of 8, ?

There are several articles about Windows 9 here:
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/opinion/w...rom-windows-9/

Dual Win7/Win8 boot-up here:
https://windowssecrets.com/best-prac...l-boot-system/

I get the free e-mail version of Windows Secrets; there's no fixed price for the paid version; you send what you want to send. It contains a great deal of good information. The archive is at the website.

I only read this thread yesterday and appreciate very much all of the information it contains. I've hated Win7 on my laptop and considered getting a Mac; reading these comments makes me think again; it's bad enough getting my XP Pro and Win 7 to work together; adding a Mac promises to add more headache for little gain--getting it to work with WordPerfect, for starters.

Just bought a new laptop - with Windows 8 on it.

I fucking hate it!

How do I get rid of this shit fucking "tablet/smartphone" piece of shit operating system? I want Windows 7 back.

And what the hell is this App shit? What the fuck is an App? I thought they were programs.

And why in the fuck do I have to create and log into a Windows account if I want to download Skype's software to my computer?

It's none of Microsoft's fucking business!

Can somebody please help? We took the laptop to a friend of the family who does some computer shit - and he wasn't able to uninstall Windows 8.

I want what I am used to using.

Never used Linux, and have no desire to learn a new system. If I wanted to do that, I'd just learn to use Windows 8.

And which part of "he couldn't uninstall Windows 8" to install something else flew past you?

The part showing awareness of the fact that one can't 'uninstall' an operating system, only delete or overwrite it. Or in the case of windows kill it with fire.

Default The "New" MicroSoft Office: Garbage...

If you think Windows 8 is shit, just wait until you tried the new Microsoft Office. The retarded research and development at MicroSoft has placed more new shit on Word, Excell and PowerPoint. It's just not enough to go through a simple pull down menu anymore. Good luck finding the fount size and script. Even copy and paste, without scaling down your picture can give you twenty 8.5" by 11" to post up on a wall. Plus, you have to check your printer settings constantly. MicroSoft products should have Perpartion H smeared all over on them.

Lenovo still lets you order Windows 7 on their ThinkPad laptops.

Default Funny quotes by Linus Torvalds (Alex Linder of the kernel development world)

http://linux.slashdot.org/story/13/0...usive-language

"The Linux Kernel Development Mailing List can be a hostile place for anyone. Now Intel developer Sarah Sharp is taking a stand and she wants the LKML to become a more civil place. Quoting her first message: 'Seriously, guys? Is this what we need in order to get improve -stable? Linus Torvalds is advocating for physical intimidation and violence. Ingo Molnar and Linus are advocating for verbal abuse. ... Violence, whether it be physical intimidation, verbal threats or verbal abuse is not acceptable. Keep it professional on the mailing lists.'"

The entire thread is worth a read, but Linus isn't buying it:

"Because if you want me to 'act professional', I can tell you that I'm not interested. I'm sitting in my home office wearing a bathrobe. The same way I'm not going to start wearing ties, I'm *also* not going to buy into the fake politeness, the lying, the office politics and backstabbing, the passive aggressiveness, and the buzzwords. Because THAT is what 'acting professionally' results in: people resort to all kinds of really nasty things because they are forced to act out their normal urges in unnatural ways.' He also offered cookies in exchange for joining the dark side. An earlier reply by Linus further explains why he thinks it is OK to be mean: most of the time, he's only yelling at people who should know better (cultivating a crew of lead developers bound to him by Stockholm Syndrome?).

Seriously, guys? Is this what we need in order to get improve -stable?
Linus Torvalds is advocating for physical intimidation and violence.
Ingo Molnar and Linus are advocating for verbal abuse.

Not *fucking* cool. Violence, whether it be physical intimidation,
verbal threats or verbal abuse is not acceptable. Keep it professional
on the mailing lists.

Let's discuss this at Kernel Summit where we can at least yell at each
other in person. Yeah, just try yelling at me about this. I'll roar
right back
, louder, for all the people who lose their voice when they
get yelled at by top maintainers. I won't be the nice girl anymore.

Yes. And I do it partly (mostly) because it's who I am, and partly
because I honestly despise being subtle or "nice".

The fact is, people need to know what my position on things are. And I
can't just say "please don't do that", because people won't listen. I
say "On the internet, nobody can hear you being subtle", and I mean
it.

And I definitely am not willing to string people along, either. I've
had that happen too - not telling people clearly enough that I don't
like their approach, they go on to re-architect something, and get
really upset when I am then not willing to take their work.

Sarah, first off, I don't have that many tools at hand. Secondly, I
simply don't believe in being polite or politically correct. And you
can point at all those cultural factors where some cultures are not
happy with confrontation (and feel free to make it about gender too -
I think that's almost entirely cultural too). And please bring up
"cultural sensitivity" while at it. And I'll give you back that same
"cultural sensitivity". Please be sensitive to _my_ culture too.

Google "management by perkele".

Do you really want to oppress a minority? Because Finns are a minority
compared to almost any other country. If you want to talk cultural
sensitivity, I'll join you. But my culture includes cursing.

And some of the above is written tonge-in-cheek, but all of it is also
serious. I really fundamentally believe that being honest and open
about your emotions about core/process is good. And because it's damn
hard to read people over email, I think you need to be *more* honest
and *more* open over email. I'm generally nicer in person. Not always.

And yes, I'll happily be part of the discussion at the KS. But I think
you also need to be aware that your "high horse" isn't necessarily all
that high.

No more verbal abuse

I’m standing up against verbal abuse on LKML. I will happily stand alone, however you can also support this cause. Please speak up, either by resharing this post, or commenting on this post with words of support. If you dare, you can also reply to my LKML email.

Update

Examples of verbally abusive behavior on the Linux kernel mailing list:

http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=135628421403144&w=2
http://marc.info/?l=linux-acpi&m=136157944603147&w=2

Further Update: I’ve been heavily moderating comments, but someone pointed out that people should actually see what kind of shit technical women have to put up with when they speak up. I’ll be letting all misogynist comments go through, so that everyone can see who is speaking up, and what kind of shit they say. Hi trolls!

“Take a stand” against, what, exactly?

A group of people getting things done? Oh yes, it’s a female proclivity to…stop people from accomplishing things by imposing one person’s views on an ALREADY-WELL-WORKING system?

Nope.

Sounds like Linus Torvalds and probably many other truly gifted White eggheads would fit right in in a White Nationalist state. With a minimal government that mostly stays the hell out of peoples' business, very low taxes, safe place to raise their families... their genius could really be cut loose to create great things.

Of course Linus would fit in the WN state. It would be perfect, the free software would be encouraged until the whole state inteligence use it. No more programming languages as Java and C#, that were made just for the market and for the capitalist use.
