De Blasio donor-turned-informant Jona Rechnitz sentenced to 10 months

City Hall donor-turned-cooperator Jona Rechnitz was hit with a 10-month sentence on Thursday for his role in the NYPD corruption scandal, and must serve at least half that time behind bars — despite prosecutors arguing he deserves time served after his “historic” turn as a cooperating witness.

Rechnitz, 37, was allowed to leave Manhattan federal court and remain free on bail pending an appeal. But if he loses his appeal, he will serve half of the sentence in lockup and half in home confinement.

The jail sentence came despite his proudly telling the sentencing judge about his partying with Kim Kardashian last month, claiming it showed he was a hardworking jeweler.

As revealed by The Post, Rechnitz hobnobbed with the round-rumped reality star and her mom, Kris Jenner, at a swanky Los Angeles hotel last month — despite earlier claims that cooperating with the feds on three corruption trials had turned him into a social pariah.

Police probing four anti-Semitic attacks in New York in 24 hours

New York City has been rocked by at least four attacks over a 30-hour period that are now being investigated as anti-Semitic hate crimes — including one against two little boys in Williamsburg, cops said.

The crime spree began Monday in the lobby of a NYCHA building where the boys, ages 6 and 7, lived on Wilson Street, officials said.

The pair was attacked from behind at around 8:40 p.m. by two teenagers — one of whom struck the younger victim in the stomach. The boys suffered minor injures and were treated at the scene.

The perps said nothing in the alleged attack — but police are investigating the incident as a hate crime because “it’s usually better safe than sorry,” an NYPD spokesman said.

Convicted ex-Mayor Bill de Blasio crony Jona Rechnitz — who recently boasted about being a jeweler to the Kardashian family — is facing a new criminal probe from the FBI in California for allegedly bilking an investor out of millions of dollars, a court filing shows.

Rechnitz, who’s embroiled in a Los Angeles County civil lawsuit for allegedly failing to pay back the investor, is asking for the case to be delayed because he’s now under a criminal investigation for the same matter — and risks incriminating himself if the case moves forward, court records show.

Brooklyn man arrested for hoarding masks, coughing on FBI agents

A Brooklyn man claiming to be infected with the coronavirus coughed on FBI agents who were investigating him for hoarding medical supplies, the US Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Baruch Feldheim, 43, is facing charges of assault and making false statements to the feds on Sunday outside his Borough Park home where he allegedly peddled and stored massive amounts of N95 respirator masks, federal officials said.

Feldheim is also accused of price-gouging. On March 18, he’s suspected of selling a New Jersey doctor about 1,000 of the masks for $12,000, a markup of roughly 700 percent, authorities said.

The accused fraudster also directed another doctor to an Irvington, NJ, auto repair shop to pick up another order. There, the doctor reported to investigators that Feldheim was allegedly hoarding enough medical supplies “to outfit an entire hospital.”

New York: Jews At Brooklyn Hospital Will Enjoy Privileged Access to Ventilators Over Gentiles

Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn's largest hospital, is non-sectarian and supposed to serve all New Yorkers equally regardless of race. According to new reports, this is about to change.

The potential ventilator shortage in COVID-19 ridden New York has led to hospitals across the city to begin debating rationing health care for those who stop breathing or fall into cardiac arrest. While no official protocols are in place, it has been reported that doctors are already informally implementing do-not-resuscitate orders against the wishes of sick patients in order to more efficiently use ventilators.

At Maimonides, the Jews-only ambulance service Hatzalah has somehow gotten its hands on 50 ventilators and donated them to the Borough Park hospital. This donation comes with strings attached: Jews will get priority access, and in cases where an elderly Jewish patient is far gone and a young Gentile patient could be saved, the Jew must keep his ventilator indefinitely.

According to Hatzalah, it is against the Jewish religion to refuse patients care based on age or co-morbidities. This is by no means unique to Jews, as the Catholic Church and various other religious institutions believe the exact same thing. Once again, religion is being used to mask racial privilege.

The Jewish community's behavior during this pandemic has been atrocious. A recent police raid on a warehouse belonging to Baruch Feldheim uncovered a massive stockpile of desperately needed medical supplies. Feldheim was selling struggling hospitals N95 masks at a 700% markup, revealing a callous willingness to profit from misery and death.

While right-wing pundits are comfortably spreading rumors that Chinese agents are spreading the virus across on purpose, and the FBI and Jewish leaders have promoted the hoax that racist white men are infecting Jews on purpose, neither side is keen to mention that in actuality it is Jews who have become overrepresented as vectors of COVID-19. According to Deborah Lipstadt, Jews are unwilling to follow state bans on large gatherings that endanger them and the people around them due to the "Holocaust." Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey has been forced to engage in mass arrests and ticketing to try and discourage the Jews of Lakewood, New Jersey from flagrantly violating his executive order forbiding large public gatherings.

Seeing how the supply of everything from ambulances to ventilators is being stressed by the sudden rush of patients, it would be in the interest of the citizens of New York for Governor Andrew Cuomo to take over Hatzalah and the stockpile of supplies in the hands of local Jewish gangsters to be utilized based on medical need, rather than race or profit.

Brooklyn’s Orthodox neighborhoods have especially high rates of the coronavirus

NEW YORK (JTA) — Four heavily Orthodox neighborhoods in Brooklyn have especially high rates of the novel coronavirus, according to data released by this city’s Department of Health.

The record of positive COVID-19 tests in the five boroughs shows that Borough Park, Crown Heights, Williamsburg and Midwood all have above-average positive test rates. In Borough Park, more than 67% of coronavirus tests have come back positive — the highest rate in Brooklyn and sixth-highest of any Zip code in New York City.

In Crown Heights, 63.4% of tests are positive, while in Williamsburg the figure is 62.5% and in Midwood it is 60.3%. The average positive test rate across the city is 53%.

Several California jewelers are trying to force corrupt Mayor Bill de Blasio donor Jona Rechnitz’s diamond company into bankruptcy in an effort to recoup more than $15 million they say he stole from them.

The involuntary bankruptcy petition was filed by jewelers Victor Noval and Peter Marco, as well as the company First International Diamond Inc., in the Central District of California federal court on Monday night, according to court papers.

Marco is seeking more than $7 million that Rechnitz allegedly owes him, papers show. Noval is asking for almost $6 million and First International Diamond Inc. is seeking nearly $2 million, according to the documents.

The petition targets Rechnitz’s company, Jadelle and Jewelry Diamonds, which is under federal investigation for allegedly bilking investors out of millions of dollars.

Corrupt Mayor Bill de Blasio donor Jona Rechnitz is a celebrity connected scam artist comparable to Adam Sandler’s character in “Uncut Gems,” a diamond dealer charged in a federal suit in California this week.

Los Angeles Jeweler Peter Marco claims in the suit filed Tuesday that he is one of several high-end jewelers Rechnitz and his wife have ripped off since he was convicted in a widespread public corruption case in the New York.

“Jona Rechnitz’s dark dealings is eerily similar of the character Howard Ratner, played by actor Adam Sandler, in the 2019 film Uncut Gems,’ of a charismatic debt-ridden gambling addict,” Marco charges in the suit.

‘Uncut Gems’ puts age-old Jewish stereotypes front and center. Why has there been no backlash?

(JTA) — Almost every movie, TV show and other work of art gets put under Twitter’s sensitive microscope these days. Depictions of Jews in contemporary culture are especially of interest, given the wave of anti-Semitism rising across the country.

So in a sense it might be surprising that “Uncut Gems,” the critically acclaimed Diamond District thriller starring Adam Sandler that depicts a series of age-old negative tropes about Jews, hasn’t been subject to a controversial level of public scrutiny.

Directed by Jewish filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie, the movie features Sandler as Howard Ratner, a New York City jeweler who juggles a seemingly endless series of bets, hustles, false promises and scams throughout the more than two-hour production.

Howard is a sleazy, greasy, greedy, dishonest businessman who wears his hair slicked back and dons lots of ostentatious jewelry and clothing. He’s obsessed with making money — perhaps to a clinical extent — and is even shown to have exploited the work of people in Africa (Ethiopian Jews, to be exact).

Sandler’s Howard, who another character calls a “crazy Jew,” is almost a parody of the anti-Semitic caricature that paints Jews as cheap and profit-driven.

It’s not as if this is some arthouse film relegated to a few small screens — “Uncut Gems” has made over $40 million at the box office and garnered serious Oscar buzz before this week, when it surprised critics by being shut out of the nomination list.

So why hasn’t there been an angry response from Jewish organizations or on social media? And why are Jews some of the film’s biggest fans?

Emails reveal Mayor de Blasio ‘abused his power’ to help stall yeshiva probe

Mayor Bill de Blasio was personally involved in a deal with Orthodox Jewish leaders to delay a long-awaited report on shoddy yeshivas in exchange for an extension of mayoral control of city schools, emails obtained by The Post show.

Internal emails among de Blasio and his top aides at City Hall and the Department of Education reveal that the mayor made key phone calls to the powerful religious leaders to clinch the support of two state lawmakers voting on his power to run the nation’s largest school system.

“These internal communications reveal what we suspected all along: Mayor de Blasio abused his power by interfering with the yeshiva investigation,” said Naftuli Moster, founder and executive director of Young Advocates for Fair Education (YAFFED). The group filed complaints against 39 Brooklyn yeshivas in July 2015 for allegedly shortchanging children on secular subjects such as math, English, science and history.

The DOE launched an investigation of the yeshivas, but as it dragged on, critics charged City Hall was delaying the probe to curry favor with the Orthodox Jewish voting bloc.

‘Loophole’ bars NY state cops from probing an open yeshiva, report says

State cops said they were powerless to investigate an Orange County yeshiva that may have been violating state coronavirus restrictions Tuesday because of a loophole in the regulations, according to a report.

News 12 Hudson Valley said that students were seen being dropped off at the United Talmudical Academy in Kiryas Joel Tuesday and that kids were visible inside the building.

Slumlord Podolsky brothers score NYC hotel business from homelessness crisis

Two notorious slumlord brothers — Jay and Stuart Podolsky — are cashing in on the city’s emergency relocation of thousands of homeless New Yorkers to hotel rooms after coronavirus outbreaks in city shelters.

The brothers and their father, Zenek, pleaded guilty in 1986 to dozens of felonies for allegedly installing hookers and drug dealers in three Upper West Side buildings they owned to push out tenants.

They were sentenced to five years probation, while Zenek spent 90 days behind bars.

Real estate records show that limited liability company, Plaza Hotel East, bought the building in January 1997. Both Jay and Stuart Podolsky were listed as “members” of the shell on mortgage documents linked to the transaction.

In subsequent years, much of the paperwork has been signed by Stuart.

It’s the most recent score for the two brothers, who netted $173 million from taxpayers when they sold city officials 21 decrepit apartment buildings at prices that both internal city appraisals and Stringer declared to be above-market.

Mob of Orthodox protesters in Brooklyn corners a journalist accused of informing on his community

(JTA) — A reporter and member of the Hasidic community in Borough Park was cornered and threatened Wednesday night as protests against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s new restrictions on areas experiencing COVID upticks continued in Borough Park.

Jacob Kornbluh, a Hasidic Jew and a political reporter at Jewish Insider, said in a tweet that he was “brutally assaulted, hit in the head and kicked at by an angry crowd of hundreds of community members of the Boro Park protest.” Kornbluh said he planned to press charges.

He said Heshy Tischler, a local figure who has become a leader of the movement to defy COVID restrictions, had “ordered the crowd to chase me down the street.”

Video posted to Twitter by Jake Offenhartz, a reporter for Gothamist, showed a large crowd gathered around Kornbluh with Tischler at the center, shouting in Kornbluh’s face while unmasked. “You’re a moser,” Tischler is seen screaming. “Everybody scream moser!”

“Moser” is a Jewish legal term for one who informs on Jews to the secular authorities, and some Jewish legal authorities suggest that a “moser” is subject to the death penalty. Kornbluh and Mordy Getz, a Hasidic businessman, had been called “mosers” in an anonymous flyer that circulated in April after they spoke out about the need to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Tischler had called Kornbluh a “moser” and a “rat” in a video he posted to Instagram earlier Wednesday from a cemetery.

James recused herself from the investigation into the clinics, which are owned by Gary Schlesinger, a Hasidic Jewish leader from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a longtime supporter of hers who has posted a number of photos of himself with her to Facebook over the past several years.

(JTA) — Advocates for improving secular studies in Hasidic yeshivas are getting an assist from an unlikely place: the federal case of a Hasidic man who has pleaded guilty to laundering drug money.

Zalman Zirkind of Montreal, but currently on house arrest in Brooklyn, is due to be sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in New York. Last summer he pleaded guilty to charges that carry a possible sentence of 11 to 14 years in prison.

Supporters of Zirkind, also known as Zalmund, have submitted letters testifying to his character and asking for a lenient sentence.

Among the 24 letters submitted to the judge in the case was one from Abraham Boyarsky, a math professor at Concordia University in Montreal who said he has known Zirkind’s family for 40 years — and understands why Zirkind turned to crime.

Secular education is frowned upon in the Hasidic community, Boyarsky explained, but a combination of few job opportunities and the high cost of yeshiva tuition for large families can lead men into “financial and legal woes.”

“In desperation, they rely on a thwarted perception that justifies taking extreme risks in the false belief that supporting a family condones almost any action,” he wrote.

It’s not the first time that advocates for a Hasidic Jew convicted of a crime have pointed out a defendant’s minimal secular education as part of a bid to reduce a prison sentence. When Sholom Rubashkin, who ran a kosher slaughtering and meat-packing company, was convicted of financial fraud in 2010 and sentenced to an unusually severe 27 years in jail, his lawyer, Nathan Lewin, noted Rubashkin’s limited secular education in a brief in appealing the sentence.

“Sholom Rubashkin, one of Aaron’s nine children, received only a limited secular education, graduating from eighth-grade,” he wrote in the 2011 appellate brief by way of beginning a short history of Rubashkin’s life meant to persuade the judge to shorten his sentence.

Law enforcement watched from a distance as Shlomo Halberstam, the 18-year-old son of the head of the Bobov Hasidic sect, married his bride, who has not been identified, in the outdoor parking lot of the Congregation Shaarei Zion synagogue in Borough Park before the celebrations moved inside.

Footage from the indoor ceremony showed father of the groom Bobov Grand Rabbi Bentzion Halberstam, 65, celebrating in a white satin robe as hundreds of maskless men from the Hasidic Bobov community clapped from their seats.
