Emissions
There are few government mandates that I favor, but one of them is the auto safety inspection. We also are required to have the car pass emissions every other year. This I think is bullshit.
About a year ago I had an '88 Nissan Maximum that had to pass emissions ($30 for the inspection). They told me the car failed. I said "what the car runs great and and there is no smoke coming from it". I decided to get the car repaired to pass. I think the repair charge was about $460 for an oxygen sensor and some type of fuel injection cleaning. I believe but not certain that they aren't allow to charge someone more than $500 for the fix in order to pass emissions. I suspect they only changed oxygen sensor and didn't do the rest of the bullshit.
